The 262 was not the first jet in squadron action - to kill the enemy. That was the Meteor which shot down a jet aircraft - a V1 - a moth before the 262. The 262 was first with a squadron, but it was for trials not acitive hunting.

The 262 was hopelessly underdeveloped being only a glorified kamikaze as it killed more Germans than allied airmen.
