  • so silly. Comparing original to cover and debating which is 'better'. childish. I guarantee this discussion never occurred between Joe Cocker/Beatles or Flaming Lips/Pink Floyd or whoever.

  • haters go ahead and hate, but lovers keep on lovin' cause this is the real deal!!! Love Love Love

  • a cover is a cover, what's the debate?? you reenact the work/art of another, so this interpretation even if its modified by tecnical limitations or the sensibility and point of view of the one doing the cover, is good to go if it's honest and sincere as is in that point in which you pay the the essencial and rightfull tribute to the original.

  • I don't care what some of you here are saying, I think this is a great cover. Obviously, it's not as good as Pink Floyd's version, but really good nethertheless.

  • Of course they COULD play it exactly like Pink Floyd. What would be the point, though?

  • everyone is overanalyzing/overcritiqueing this. THEY ARE PURPOSELY NOT DOING IT EXACTLY LIKE PINK FLOYD! the fuck would the fun be in, as a top knotch band like TFL, making it EXACTLY like the original?! it's not the point of a band of this stature to do so. they put THEIR little twists, nuances, and intrinsicities to make it their own while still paying much due respects to their predecessors by doing it similarly and cleanly (i.e. - not true plagiarism and not fucking it up!). they do justice!

  • @griswaldNhtown that is the greatest comment i have seen on youtube

  • @knoxrox167 gee whiz, dear sir! graciously, thank you very much (that's the nicest comment i have received to one of my "drunken posts from the heart")!

    :).......>I

  • I saw them back in April , They closed with this song. I have to say it was one of the best renditions of this song I have ever heard. Can't wait to see them again.

  • stop pointing out the faults and enjoy

  • @lpapii92 yes sir!

  • i went to their new years show and after midnight they did the entire dark side album. it was my fifth time to see them and by far the best, it was amazing. you can buy it on itunes, i suggest you do!!

  • heyy people, if you dont like the cover then why do u even watch the video????? idiots...go back to just listening to floyd... i like FL and PF and I think this great so who cares if u dont like it just stop watching it

  • The drumming is too assertive for this song. Other than that, good cover.

  • So it's true: Nick Mason never needed all those drums!

  • This dude is totally missing the feel of Nicks drumming. He's too "on top" of the beat. Breathe(and most of Masons drumming) is meant to be laid back and hold it all back. This version is chugging along.

  • i agree, but i think that The Lips are probably one of the few bands that could pull this album off as a cover so i've got high hopes.

  • @Chrisdrumz well no shit, Kliph does his drums as Kliph does his drums, hes not meant to do it in a plageristic nature that copies Floyd, otherwise we'd all just listen to Pink Floyd do this, but they provide a new version for us to enjoy. If you think this is assertive, check out the '09 cover (or the cover of the whole album)

  • Drozd is good, Drozd is great, thank you for the music.

    Amen.

  • I'm going to throw an entire tree on to this fire. The Flaming Lips are Covering the entire Dark Side of the Moon album. I am excited, I love Dark Side of the Moon and I love The Flaming Lips. If any band was going to cover Dark Side of the Moon I am glad it is The Flaming Lips, they will keep it recognizable but they will add the distinct Lips sound to it.

  • really? I'm looking forward to that :D

  • i love youtube comment debates... good times.

  • this cover is phenomenal!

  • Do you think they are producing this to prove to the world how shithouse they are compared to Floyd? Of course not! Think about it!

  • The only thing lame is you accepting any old tripe that gets served up as 'art'.

  • These tossers have just done a complete cover of Dark Side of the Moon - how utterly pathetic. What an age of unimaginative recycled bullshit we live in. What's the fucking point? Like the film remake of Psycho it just shows how totally devoid of anything fresh and creative GenY are.

  • Have you listened to their new album? I'd hardly call that 'recycled bullshit'...

  • What do you call TOTALLY covering an another bands LP from 36 years ago?? WHY turn into a Pink Floyd tribute band by re-doing DSOTM? When Pink Floyd did Dark Side of The Moon, music was pushing forward and experimenting. Bands like Led Zep, Queen and Floyd were fresh and daring. The Flaming Lips may be capable but by doing this they are now treading water. The fact that anyone would accept it proves how numb GenY are to the fact they are being ripped off at every turn. Open Your eyes!

  • You didn't answer my question. Have you listened to their new album? Music is still pushing forward and experimenting. You just need to turn off the radio. Besides, its not like the Flaming Lips are the first band to redo a complete album. Artists are still allowed to have fun and do what they want, and if they want to redo Dark Side...I say let 'em. Their version of Eclipse sounds nothing like the Pink Floyd version and I am looking forward to their take on one of the greatest albums ever.

  • Several things: it should be out before the end of the year and the Flaming Lips' new album JUST came out. If they were releasing a cover album INSTEAD of new material then that would be treading water. Doing both is pleasing to the fans, especially since nobody is being forced to buy it. You yourself need to open your eyes and realise that everyone accepts Shakepseare's importance despite him frequently just writing versions of existing plays. Checkmate.

  • Hardly checkmate, darlin'. I don't call rehashing a BETTER bands material 'pleasing the fans' I call it arrogance. Do the FL really think they can out-do The Floyd? But we live in an age of zero imagination - recyled movies, fashion and music, so I shouldn't be surprised that people accepti this laziness as 'art'.

  • A tribute album is hardly an attempt to "out-do" a band. Rather, it is, as the term says, a tribute. An homage to a band they truly respect.

It can also be a re-imagining of an album that they see as fun. They want to have some fun with it, as they really enjoy the album, as much as you do.

No-one is questioning the album's greatness, but everyone is questioning your denouncing of the Flaming Lips, and the art of the cover song/album.

  • What exactly IS the point of a tribute album then if not to make people compare it to the original?

I am not saying the FLs are without talent, but we are in a generation that watches 're-imagined' films, reads books that someone has whacked the word 'zombie' into a classic and it's new and that rehashes 80% of it's music from other acts. Gen Y have as much inspiration as a plastic potted plant. The MOST frustrating thing is how blithley people accept and justify it! It's like an Orwell novel.

  • They cover one song (now the entire album lol) and you think that the flaming lips have no imagination and are lazy that makes no sense at all.

  • Covering a classic LP and thinking no one will think it's a lame idea makes no sense. Shall we look forward to Radiohead doing Deep Purple In Rock or Coldplay's version of Highway to Hell some time soon?

  • @SagansMoon

    Fuck off.

  • @SagansMoon

    FUCK OFF!

  • Where are parts I-III?

  • i cant believe the dimwits at the festival don't join in the words to this classic. i guess they were just there expecting madonna or shit pop rock bands.

  • I presume you're joking? It's Glastonbury...

  • YESSSSSSSSSS

  • this music is VERY creative and yet.. GROOVES! I like how, yes, it takes me through emotions sometimes by suprise.. and he seems sincere.

  • hahaha, creative? its almost a note for note cover of a song written over 35 years ago

  • I watched all the videos of the Lips @ Glasto supplied by didergo. It starts out silly with all those costumes and upbeat and patented Lips. All the way through to Breathe. It brought a tear to my eye. And, still, the costumed "playthings" a complete juxtaposition to the last song, compounding the sadness. That's the Lips in a nutshell. No band I know of can seem so silly and take you through a catharsis you didn't know was coming.

And what do you get? "He doesn't sing very well." Get a clue.

  • i love you for this, it's dead on

  • good cover

  • Hands down the best video of any music I have seen/heard on the net!!!

MAN I F@&KING LOVE THE LIPS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Didergo

thanks very much for putting these on

Glasto's a big stage for these guys - esp as they were really just breaking the UK with this album

    They hit the button tho

BTW - I hate Pink Floyd - most over rated band ever, apart form Radiohead? - Discuss ...

  • could you please tell us which bands aren't as "over rated" as pink floyd and radiohead? glastonbury's stage too big for the lips??? hahahahaaha you obviously don't know much about music... pink floyd, radiohead and flaming lips are some of the best bands... if not, the best. do us a favor and go back to the mental institution where you escaped from.

  • so true

  • Drozd is awesome.

  • a fucking awsome version of a floyd classic

  • radiohead headlined after the lips

  • wow...better than the original....that's funny

  • its not blood is marmalade...i fucking love that man

  • this is for thom yorke!

  • what do you think he means by that?? is wayne trying to see that radiohead has a big pink floyd influence or something.??

  • im pretty sure that breathe is thom yorke's favorite pink floyd song, and yeah pink floyd had alot of influence in radiohead's music

  • Mainly Pink Floyd's album Meddle

  • WHAT?? is much better than the original version??? ITS A EXELLENT COVER BUT BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL I DONT THINK SO

  • Wtf is that blood on his forehead?

  • i was there and loving it alittle to much

  • Steven Drozd is the fucking master of tone and instruments. Shit yes!!

  • yes!guitar-playing is amazing.the floyd done this with various overdubs, its tricky to get that sound live.amazing.

  • hey, you posted 2 years ago on this video, i just thought id bug the hell out of you and reply to this
