I shudder at the thought that this great singer and musician was almost gassed by the Nazis. I'm saddened by the thought that hundred of equally great musicians were lost as Thessaloniki's Sephardic Jews had a really rich musical tradition than drew from the east and the west.
Ahhhhh re anamou roza you are gone away to allah but we here you and we miss you !!! mia to cakmakis to mia to nergila .... ahhhhhh rozas ..... nur ah shad ol ! topragin bol olsun !!! mekani to cenneti !
Rosa was a Sephardic Jew who's ancestors were kicked out of Spain for their faith! Jews must no forget the Ottoman Empire. She sung in Ladino, Turkish & Greek. She died penniless in 1980. Yasou Rosa!!
"Ye call Ferdinand a wise king he who makes his land poor and ours rich!".
Yes i think they will remember that a brutal tyrant welcomed them so that he could exploit their hard work and knowledge to empower himself. Btw how are turkish isreali relations these days? Oh right the leader is an anti-semite who caters to anyone to gain regional power. You Loose.

Great song and collage. Roza had recorded it earlier in her career with the same violinist,Dimitris Ladopoulos, who was from Manisa/Magnisia, Asia Minor. This earlier recording also has kanonaki/kanun and outi/ud - both, like Roza, were Istanbul born.
