my uncle HATES nissan so much. He bought a 96 maxima used so long ago. Surprisingly it stills runs (barely) after 150k. It just got past down. But my uncle will always hate nissan. that 96 maxima caused us so much $. There was a mechanic down the street he went to and he almost smashed the maxima because the check engine light would never go off.
@thecarexpert21 if you hate nissan you will definitely hate toyota and subaru as well, possibly honda and the korean makes too because they all share some components even tho they are all different companies. only cars that are truly mechanically different from nissan are from american or european manufacturers
@2004NissanSentra sorry. That didn't come out right I my self think nissan is decent my uncle is a whole different story. Considering there are 10+ nissans in our family. My aunt has a 97 pathfinder. 150,000mi+ and still runs. They drive their cars to Canada from Chicago each and every year.
@thecarexpert21 Like I friends of mine. Back in 1998, his grandparents bought a Brand New 1998 Special Edition Nissan Altima. Even as a kid when I saw the car, I didn't see anything special about it. Hubcaps, Power Windows & Locks. And they were so excited that it was a special edition thinking it was something rare lol.
Nissan's V6s & V8s did have timing chain tensioner issues from 04-07, as do Toyota's V6's & V8's have valve spring & camshaft issues during the same exact years. Both had some issues with transmissions too but those are more isolated
@2004NissanSentra I stressed that because I hear many Muranos, Altimas, Maximas, Pathfinders, older G35's & 350Z that make the most horrible noises for the 1st few seconds of a cold start & when I started them up with my dad keeping eye with the hood open, the noises seems to come from in front of the engine
@Intechdude300 Seen it first hand with the engine torn apart too, from 04-07 they used plastic timing chain tensioners that often wore out anywhere between 50k-80k miles. They changed it back to metal tensioners starting in 2008. Toyota's problem was with using foreign substances in manufacturing the camshafts & valve springs, I've seen a 4.7L from a Tundra torn apart with a broken camshaft and the valve springs were about done too. Run synthetic with both these engines and you should be fine.
@2004NissanSentra Yeah thats something I've been seeing on many 2007 & older model nissans.... Never noticed with 08.. And you're so right about the mileage
I honestly don't think I've seen worse interior quality than this, even the Camry seems better. Could be because of the cars age or maybe it wasn't taken care of properly.
@uakronsam116 IMO, I feel it had the most fresh design of all the mini vans when it 1st came out. I do like their ride & the 3.5L V6 when it's paired to the 5 speed auto. Other than that, interior is a let down & the 4 speed auto on base models like this should never of existed.
@Intechdude300 oh and the top trim level of these looked absolutely hot on the outside, but i'm sure the interior quality was the same as in this one, very flimsy, cheaply done, and just sloppy all together
Appreciate your reviews showing how well a car will wear after a few years of use. Like seeing how trim pieces collapse, break, fade or easily come apart well before they should.
@talldude123 If it were on this van, probably the CVT only if it had the manual shift mode ( Automatic Shifting simulation ) like found in the Maxima. But in reality, the standard 5 speed auto offered in the other trim levels was very decent.
Shows how Nissan and Toyota are very similar, and in some ways that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, there's some really good things about that
@fanowner12 I compare this one more to the sienna, only the quality is flip-flopped, in 06 the sienna had much better quality and in 2011 the quest has better quality
We had a quest back in the late 90s, I loved that thing! mainly cause I was a little kid and the 3rd row seats had a headphone jack for some radio disney :P lol!
I would love to put an intake and exhaust on this and people will thinks its a 350Z flying by, wont expect a minivan sounding badass! Love the VQ series engine, best V6 ever.
I thought they all did but I discovered that only the SE & SL models have the 5 speed. Heck I even talked about how well it works, how that tranny was built by Aisin, & to checkout the test-drive video I did of a 2005 SL. But I edited that out once I did a HP spec check.
@Intechdude300 yeah im gonna take a look at that vid. but its really dumb how car makers put a lower speed transmission in there cars if there the base model, like the new Odyssey, its a gorgeous van and everything, i love them but why would they still offer the 5 speed auto in the non-touring models? whats the point?
@awada85 I feel it's more cost effective to just get rid of the 5 speed entirely. Typical automaker tactic which is to make something beneficial on more expensive models so shoppers would likely pay more to get it.
@Intechdude300 yeah and like the chrysler 200 and dodge avenger, its supposed to be an updated sebring and im sure you already know the drill. still offering a 4 speed auto? even gm has a 6 speed auto in there cruze and malibu. same with the fusion...
That oh s Handle is so old my 95 maxima has that

@thecarexpert21 what I meant is that it is not uncommon for automakers to share components with each other, especially japanese makes

This and the current Quest are polar opposites in terms of styling. These are kind of cool but I much prefer the current one.
