  • Wow! Registration, Expression, Tempo. Is there anything you can't do?

  • Loved the tempo, the phrasing, and the registration--very impressive!

  • THIS WAS ABSOLU TLY BEAUTIFUL!

    This was WONDERFUL!!!!!!

  • Last, while you did maintain the dotted quarter phrasing, one or 2 times the sixteenths got the best of you, which may be due to rushing this angelic work. Still, by far one of the best Bach pieces on the net. Please do continue to post!!!

  • Thank you. Yes, this was the first piece on the program so my nerves got to the tempo. This is the only video I have of me playing this piece so I posted it anyway.

  • I understand about piece placement. This was the piece that I had opened up my college audition with. I do enjoy the Guilmant Sonata's that you have posted, especially the dynamic emphasis implied in each movement.

  • This Bach piece was one of the ones I never learned while a student so I finally learned it. The other tempo problem was because the action of this organ is very heavy and I hadn't played a tracker in 3 years before this recital (and flat pedal board). I won't be in the New England area anytime soon. I would love an invite from someone there!

  • You might get your wish. I am the organist at the Trinity Cathedral in Albany, NY. The church is going to be celebrating it's 75th next Sept., for the "current" structure of the church. The church seats about 800-1000, and has a 72 rank Moller. If you woulf give me your contact and price listing, I can see about including you in the concert(s) planned.

  • Are you referring to Trinity Methodist Church in Albany? The only cathedrals I know there are Immaculate Conception and All Saints Cathedrals. I grew up in Albany and never heard of a Trinity Cathedral. Thanks.

  • Trinity is a "cathedral", as it was originally the Methodist-Episcopal response to All Saints. Only after changing to Methodit did the start using quotation marks around that title.

  • Yes, I can hear especially at the beginning those little problems with the action of this organ. But you get more and more familiar with the instrument from bar to bar. It is one of my Bach favourite Preludes. Do you know the Cochereau recording with the pedal motive in full chamade power? This sounds very excentric.

Greetings from Germany and best wishes!

  • BTW, where did you recieve your PhD from?

Are you going to be in the New England area anytime this year?

  • Hi! Loved this performance - have you heard the Hugh Potton version yet? It's faster - I think speed all depends on the acoustics of the building and the extent to which one can achieve clarity within a given acoustic.

  • Sorry, had to post a second note. Anyways, last, while you did maintain the dotted quarter phrasing, one or 2 times the sixteenths got the best of you, which may be due to rushing this angelic work. Still, by far one of the best Bach pieces on the net. Please do continue to post!!!

  • I did enjoy your video overall, but here are a few things I noticed. First, the registration was well balanced, especially for the fugue. Second, you were running about three different tempo's throughout the piece, particularly at the end of the prelude (chordal section).

  • well in that case you must excuse me

  • Can I ask why someone has made up a page on youtube pretending to be this woman? Why would a doctor of music waste time posting videos on youtube?

  • What do you mean pretending to be?????? This is Dr. Heather Hernandez and I made this page and these are my videos. I posted these to share with my friends around the world who are unable to come to my recitals.

  • That's my first organ teacher! She taught me when I was 12... that was a while ago! =^)

  • Sorry I'm not perfect. I needed more practice time with the flat pedalboard! Playing on a concert series doesn't always provide a lot of practice time with the instrument and even with a lot of practice mistakes happen.

  • I completely understand your problem: different pedalboard standards always make things more difficult and, personally, I don't like flat pedalboards!

On the other hand, the fugue from the same piece is almost perfect, incredibly intelligible and really expressive. Good job!

  • You should pay more attention to the pedals: the slip in the second attack of the pedal part (I believe you played 'D' instead of 'C') is awful! That's a real pity!

  • Absolutely delicious! I feel like dancing!!! 1-2-3-1-2-3-...
