  • @IH674Cumbria I had that same problem with the 454. Took the filter off and there was a thick layer of wax in the filter. Also on summer diesel. Cleaned it off, stuck some petrol in the tank and off she went!

  • @fcp223 Yea, i mixed a couple of cup fulls of petrol in the tank. Problem is the filters are in the blast from the cooling fan, which in this weather is like an arctic breeze!! I wrapped an old newspaper around the filters so the engine heat keeps the filters warm.

  • @fcp223 you would of been better off using white diesel,it doesnt freeze.you could destroy the engine with petrol if you used to much

  • @aaron7610man White diesel freezes too. Friend of mine had a pickup with white diesel in, it froze up. If it gets cold enough then you can't stop it. Also I know that too much petrol knackers it, thats why I only used a small amount.

  • @fcp223 no it was probably the dirt/water in the filter that froze because i havent seen white diesel freeze yet, jeeps that are running on green/red diesel are freezing up here to.it was the NH dealer that told me about the white diesel trick,i havent had any diesel trouble with my tractors this year and i was working one morning at -17.5 feeding, frost drained one of the batterys one morning but that was it

  • @aaron7610man I can't see how that works really. Red diesel is exactly the same as white, except for the red dye. The only reason it waxed in the 454 was because it was on summer diesel. If I had equalled and exceeded the summer diesel quantities with winter diesel, then it may have worked. But thats a bit hard with a full tank. Also fuel is different all over the country. Some red/white variations have different additives in and some dont. It could have been anything.
