One of the most notable of his departures from his nice guy image was Macmuray's role in another Wilder masterpiece, The Apartment.

in a sense this is raymond chandlers only screenplay: he did not strut his stuff in strangers on a train and the blue dahlia is just stupid but without changler this wold have been a very very very bad adaption of the cain novella which is pretty bad: someone should do a whole twenty minutes on the chandler wilder back and forths and so forth strangers has some great moments but this is the greater film though that said jesus strangers is awesome in parts, unbelievably good.
