  • This takes me back. Awesome.

  • i dont understand why this comment was eliminated, sorry zbig

  • I want to go back in the early-mid 1970s !!

  • This is an amazing track.. I like GG but they are not one if my absolute faves, and at times I can find them hit and miss, but one thing I can say about them they are probably one if the most musically talented bands ever.. This is one of their best!

  • I generally dislike fade-outs -- "if you can't be bothered to write a decent ending then I can't be bothered to listen to your boring fade-out". But this is totally different. It is relevant to the album's story, and the GG guys are developing the melodic theme, harmonies and instrumentation right down to volume=0. And beyond? -- can you have negative volumes?

  • Superb. Never heard this before.

  • This part is about heaven or dying,it's the reflection of all three friend's lives before they die.I think that is why this part is so cathedral sounding. Ilove the use of mellotron , the old hammond organ with a great low end bass and a beautiful melody.

  • @danpage79 I agree with you, There is something hypnotic about it, c u around

  • Just great.

No te parece fugitivo2007 ?

  • to paraphrase heaven on earth...this is it

  • This gives me the goose bumps every time, never fails.I'm using a bridged power amp to a Boston woofer and I can tell you, there's a very rich low end in this recording.I bet they used a real instruments like found on cathedrals, not just synthesisers.LOL

  • Back for another visit.. Thank you so much..

  • @chubby3936 're always welcome chubby

  • There are four songs I know of that trail off into heaven. This is one of them. The other three are Supper's Ready by Genesis, Le Raconteur by Pentacle, and Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix. Please tell me if there are others!

  • @Anglagard1 yes, some more like,Crumble(Phideaux) Pentacle not even listen, but i will, and at the cinema show(Genesis),and A Saucerful of Secrets(Pink Floyd),I Talk to the Wind (K.Crimson), Karn Evil 9 (3rd Impression,E.L.P) Ripples(Genesis)One For The Vine(Genesis)the latter influenced by Hackett, and a few more that i dont remember rite now,

  • @fugitivo2007 Thanks for the recomendations and thanks for speaking in my language. I know (and like) all of the songs you mention except Crumble, which I listened to and liked just now. Are you from Brazil?

  • @Anglagard1 no, i am from Argentina, I do like to practice English with the help of google, crumble is a delicate and beautiful track, if you like guitars listen Santana, the other video that i uploaded, awesome track, personally always liked the guitar of Ritchie Blackmore ( Deep Purple-Burn-A200) and Al Dimeola (Elegant Gypsy)

  • @Anglagard1 'The Everso Closely Guarded Line' by Cardiacs (and many of their other songs) is another one

    /watch?v=61CicoCgyd0

definitely a nod to Gentle Giant in much of their work too...

  • indeed

harmoniously heavenward we fly so bittersweet it hurts

gentle giant=gods amongst men for a minute

  • This music is indead unique and sounds timeless. I have long been a Prog Rock fan but have never heard Gentle giant until I stumbled onto this via you Tube. I have now bought Gentle Giants first three CD's and love them.

  • @MrPercyboy

I've known them for the last 35 years or so and still love it !

  • There are no words to describe such beauty.

  • @vishuiqual Well said! That's why there's music! It's a language of it's own.

  • in 200 Years, when all the industrial music crap of today will be disappeared, people will ask " how could musicians create such masterpieces in 1972 ? "

  • such a beautiful song

  • Sub-fucking-lime.

  • When I started listening to this GG Song in 1972 or 73 I immediately pictured a Gothic Cathedral in my mind with this bliss going on...........

  • Lo mejor...grande Gentle G...

  • cool music

  • God, every one of their songs sound different, yet all the weird styles iive seen sound great. from knots to giant for a day to proclamation. they are all amazing GG. prog on \m/,

  • @leonevivo quasi quasi

  • @leonevivo

  • Best progrock band of the 70's !!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes it's that ones of the best ,

    Andre 53 years old

  • @giamozz I totally agree.

They are the best progressive band that I know of.

    Pink Floyd Enthusiast

  • very nice site, brought me many memories, thxs for sharing , oh cat........

  • @fugitivo2007 yes, it did indeed bring back memories!

  • yes, isnt it?

  • is this the name of the track or the Album?

    because the track is longer

  • yes u r rigth, but not enough as I would like, only 2 minutes in tthe vinyl and 3m here, perhaps the Japanese version I have

  • On some copies the track was mistracked and contained the last part of "Mr. Class and Quality", so for that reason on some copies the track appears longer. This is the real timing of the song!

  • Nice!!

  • I do not want it look like I do not like much GG!!

there is only so much to listen,

The music for me is divided into 2 parts, the bad and good

  • GG is unique, great music!!!

  • listen to the track "I Talk to the Wind" by king Crimson (awesome flute for god sake!!!!) and "the Lamia" and "at the cinema show" by Genesis both, (awesome keyboards and drums) just listen please if you didnt yet.-

  • hey guys take it easy, listen selling England by a pound, in the court of Crimson King, Tarkus, the lamb lies down on broadway, Relayer, the dark side of the moon, to name a few, are also important conceptual works

  • I have to agree with Pingo. This band has phenomenal music skills the others do not posess. Though this band is not perfect. No band or musician is. When I listen to alot of their music, I come to a conclusion that they are the finest progressive band I have ever heard so far in my life, and above commerical prog bands as a whole.

  • That was wishful thinking, pingo, I understand very well

  • Fabulous Gentle Giant

No other group of progressive rock reached the composition level of these guys.

  • @Pingo153 Yes, King Crimson, VanDer Graft and Genesis were great too.

  • Comment removed

  • @Pingo153 Yes and also Van der graff generator. great moments of creative rock.

  • Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!

  • exactly my friends, this is indeed a musical orgasm!!! I agree with u progmeck1 these guys are not from this planet!!! These guys are musical multi-instrumentalist geniuses!!

  • I don't know, where this guys came from, but surely not from this planet. This music is phenomenal !!!!!!!!

  • ur words are very wise my friend

  • This song is able to evoke many strong emotions, and it's so mystifying and deep, too. It really sits well with me.

  • same here mighty

  • If someone would ask me, what kind of music I would imagine plazed in heaven, I would refer to this song...

  • @mightymissi Amen!!!!!

  • The height of early Giant. I was learning bass at the time and would play this riff over and over. It could go on forever and never loose it's deep emotional impact.

  • Comment removed

  • Listen to the outro of "Heir Apparent", "For Absent Friends", actually I could say listen to every song by Opeth haha but yeah check them out.

  • Came across this lament . . . . . . still has the impact as when I first heard it.

  • i forget to say that the version at Pompei live of course is very beatiful too, theres a dispute about the different versions, which is better? well. is a question of taste, i think, here the link, in this version the keyboard sound fantastic, anyway 3 versions are fantastic masterpice

    v=y7056aAuz-g

  • does anyone ever hear the song "A sauceful of secrets"

by Pink Floyd? well the keyboard is awesome, in both versions, Ummaguma and saucerful of secrets, try to listen, especially after the initial chaos comes the heaven, and voice of david gilmore make an impressive song, i want to my funeral.-

  • it's epic

  • I agree with u krome

  • Although each member of the band was extremely talented, the exceptional synergy present in Gentle Giant resulted in their combined talent being more than the sum of their individual talents.

  • we love to consume the easy without thinking, n' for the money i guess

  • Why does nobody makes music like that anymore ???

  • Sad but true ....

  • People does, but they don't get much publicity. The people exists, but not the market... sadly.

  • thanks you too chubby and greetings from sudamerica mate

  • For a long time I knew only "In a glass house" and "Octopus" Albums. Three Friends hard to find. Since several months now, the great "Repertoire" Label has re-issued the Album in a great paper sleeve, like the Japan-Re-Issues. Now I have the Album and I like it so much. Especially this song! Thanks a lot for uploading! Fredy, Switzerland

  • thanks for the comments guys, every1, i only try to upload some tracks that still nobody did, later mates.-

  • Sick piece of music !! from the best prog rock group ever, and great video too !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I fully agree with Semente200. What a beautiful piece. Amazing.

  • This is one of the most amazing 3 minutes in all music history

  • @Semente200: This, Supper's Ready, and Axis Bold As Love all leave off at a place where human beings cannot go. They will continue when we are born into the afterlife.

  • @Semente200 AGREED.

  • On the GG website, some guy reviewed this album, saying this about Three Friends:

"This is one track which even Giant can't write an end for; they have to repeat and fade-out in the yearning outro to end all yearning outros. "

Damn right - Especially after taking in the lyrical story of this album, this one pulls on your heartstrings.

  • ohh thanks very much mate for your words very interesting indeed see u around mates

  • these 3 minutes make prog rock history.

  • yes agree mate are awesome this 3 minutes for god sake!!!

  • well, yes i guess, this is full! dont know other version

  • sorry, I'm just so used to them having longer songs. plus I've only heard a sample of this on a prog rock site so I expected a ten minute song. However that doesn't matter because this song is top tier.

  • hey snoog hello dude, another day I download this song again from ares it said that this song had 7:25, but in fact had only 3:00, well i dunno which is the true really, ok thx again snoog see u around, and sorry for my bad english :-)

  • the songs only three minutes long.

  • Thx tx for your precision

  • hey just trying to help. thanks for uploading such a quality song.

  • this isn't the full song is it?

  • yeahhh i agree with you dude, may be for that structure i like so much, thx for your comment

  • This is my all time favourite Gentle Giant song! It's stunning beaty and classical structure reminds me of a fugue by the old master Bachs.
