@bobbyDoel I hope that sometime in the last 4 years someone told you that the Sopranos Version is played by the Kinks, live. Right? The band that wrote it, is the same band that you listen every time you see Sopranos: The Kinks.
The theme song for the Kinks Preservation Society and all the loyal kinks fans who have supported them through the years. and for all we know they still may have a way to go. God save the kinks! - frank lima, the montvale, new jersey hillbilly boy aka dan the fan in kinkdom
@auders Jimmi and the Boyz version by Australian band in 1979 is heavier. They were a sort of modified punk band. The lead singer Ignatius Jones has gone on to be very successful in many big production areas both in Australia and elsewhere. eg produced the News Eve celebrations for the new millenium. I think the reason they did the song so well was because Ignatius related to the song, a bit like why Dave sang the original instead of Ray. Even though Ray wrote it. Watch live version on U Tube.
The version from the Sopranos sounds distinctly like a live version I heard The KinKs do. I saw them at SPAC around 1993/1994. The lyrics were changed similar in that "I won't be destroyed like everybody else". There were a lot of added/changed lyrics, many dealing with their career. I found the credit version on this site and it does sound very much like a live show.

I haven't seen the Sopranos, but the version you heard was probably the original by the Kinks.
