Luke 14:26 is in connection with Matthew 10:37 which defines what this hate means and its just the preference of christ to that of yourself and family, not the actual hate. Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. If this was the literal hate it would contradict Matthew 19:19
