The 2.4 SE Sonata isn't turbocharged. It has 200hp. And as far as that Motortrend magazine against the v6 Camry and Turbo Sonata, of course the Camry won, it's MT. Ive gotten my Turbo Sonata to 60 in 5.5 seconds. And thats faster than Motortrend's Camry. MTs Turbo Sonata did it in 7.xx seconds. The 2.4 Sonata can do that. They're biased.

Real deal - The Sonata is not a 6 cylinder it's a 4 cylinder they used to make it in 6. Even in the Turbo it's still a 4 cyl. The car she fell in love with ended up being a demo model that had 1000 miles on it so they knocked 2000 off so she got a brand new 2011 sonata for 20,000 that would drive circils around a similarly equipped camry costing upwards of 26,000! It is just a matter of choice, what you like in looks and can afford. I would be happy with either vehicle. I have a 94 Tacoma 3.4L that will last for many more years. It has been well taken care of. Hyundai has come a long ways.

@tingokuman Hyundai is doing it to ALL auto companies, not just Toyota. Their non-supercharged, non turbo-charged 4 has more power than Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, etc. The Hyundai 2.0 turbo in the Kia Optima is even better and can beat or keep up with V6's.

When you put a little 2.0l engine combined with direct injection in a car yea you will get good gas mileage, but the v6 Camry that uses a 3.5l V6 up 1.5l from the 2.0 Sonata turbo has a quicker 0-60 and quarter mile time and achieves a mpg of 29 is a better choice. Just because Hyundai stuck a turbo in their car dosnt mean it can out perform a V6 Camry. Just straight facts..

@tingokuman Hyundai is doing it to ALL auto companies, not just Toyota. Their non-supercharged, non turbo-charged 4 has more power than Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Ford, etc. The Hyundai 2.0 turbo in the Kia Optima is even better and can beat or keep up with V6's.

One interesting thing about the 3.5 v6 in the Camry (And other Toyotas).. you practically have to remove the engine to replace the water pump.. betch' you didn't know that did you? Runs good though!

just because of the 1st gear of the hyundai is a bit smaller and starts out slower doesn't mean it's always gonna be slower than the camry...

I love my Camry. I have two friends who drive Hyundai's, but I still prefer the Camry. Put this Hyundai against a v6 Camry. Wouldn't stand a chance.

When you put a little 2.0l engine combined with direct injection in a car yea you will get good gas mileage, but the v6 Camry that uses a 3.5l V6 up 1.5l from the 2.0 Sonata turbo has a quicker 0-60 and quarter mile time and achieves a mpg of 29 is a better choice. Just because Hyundai stuck a turbo in their car dosnt mean it can out perform a V6 Camry. Just straight facts..

@ctrent859 i know im not saying it will out perform a camry im just saying its a good alternate to a camry, it may not be as quick but it wouldn't lose by much. And on a curvy road the hyundai would be more fun to drive than a boring camry.

Ok Ok.. stop guys, look at the big picture if you really want to compare the two cars Toyota Camry comes out on top. Not only is it a better selling car but it also comes with two engine choices.
The new Hyundai Sonatas only come in a 2.4 4 cyl. The new camrys have have two options, the 2.5L 4cyl or the 3.5 V6. The V6 Camry is the fastest midpriced sedan in its class. On top of that Camry has an SE version (Sport Edition) with a sport tuned suspension with very tight handling.

@MrTacticaldude you must have not been following automotive closely enough. the 2.0T has been circulating the web for some months now, and its being shipped to dealers right about now. So yes, sonata will be offering 2 engine models. and when the 2.0t comes, the v6 camry will no longer be the fastest sedan. and um....... the sonata has an SE model too, with stiffer springs and thicker roll bars. and 18" wheels with some sticky rubber. do your homework please.
