  • 3 cartoons every night in the Evening Standard!

  • so what!!!??? the villain has to introduce himself!!!

  • That movie seems to be all wrong! Willie is blonde and Modesty is not. AND THEY ARE NOT A COUPLE! They must have confused Modesty with Maude Tiller or something.

  • Its a dreadful film and way, way too long.

Don't tell me I don't 'get it', I 'get it' alright - its a mess. And why the hell is Terence Stamp's 'cockney' accent so bad - he's from Stepney!!

  • I've heard that name before but my question is this: was this true to the comic source? Is the comic camp or serious? Television Batman was camped up and I thought that was seriously wrong, although, I did not grow up in the 60s era (my childhood was in the mid70s). The 60s tv Batman series seemed to be an acknowledgement in a pandering way to mid60s rock'n'roll, particularly in the Los Angeles area.

  • @Khultan The comic was played fairly straight. Very reminiscent of early James Bond. The original screenplay for this movie was written by Modesty's creator, but was taken away from him by Losey and the producers and camped up until nothing remained. The movie deservedly flopped. It was the last feeble gasp of the mid sixties camp pop art fad.

I guarantee that the movie would have done bettter if they played it straight and cast an actress who could speak English.

  • @archer1949 Well, you know, those crass, old school movie studio guys were always stepping into uncertainty vying for the atterntion of youth, I mean, youth had rock'n'roll as a platform to craft their own form of expression and the studios tried to compete with that and fails. Who do you think this Modesty Blaise in cimena form was targeted at?

  • @Khultan But that's the thing: The comic was NOT targeted for the hip, mod Youth readership. It was a early sixties Cold War adventure tale with a unique protagonist. If they would have gone for a more early Sean Connery "From Russia With Love" vibe, it would have appealed to a broader audience, not just flaky teenybopper trendsters who were already moving on to psychedelia and Flower Power by the time this travesty was released.

Is it any wonder the old studio system collapsed?

  • @archer1949 Ouch, okay, I get you and agree but there's no call to lash out at the teens.

  • @Khultan If you read the original comics today, they still hold up. This? Not so much.

  • @archer1949 As the Brits would say: 'Ah, bullocks!'

  • Love how at 1:16 you can see her shot arrow at the top right of the frame, before the one appears in the man's stomach...

  • WOW my name

  • ’Ere, give us a kiss princess !!! Priceless. But where is Dirk's desperate cry for "champaggggne"?

  • Man, thanks for posting. What a wonderful trailer. I love the way the voice hammers "modesty blaise" in the ears of the listeners.

  • I love every frame of this movie and the music is great. Modesty Blaise. is camp at it's best. I saw it at the show years ago and it blew me out of my seat. Now I watch it on disc way ...way too much. You have to watch the movie to understand why her hair changes from scene to scene..to get the joke!

  • why is she a blonde...thats a flaw..

  • @icommand Yeah, good question. She's brunette. TV producers [CENSORED]ING around with the source. I REALLY hate that.

  • "this commentator's got such a charming voice"

  • Ah...so it's this Modesty chick that started the beef between Zod and Jor-El. Now I get it.

  • But whatever DID happen to Mr Fothergill?

  • tarantino should not touch this at all

  • NOT a great movie, but you have to see it!

  • MY NAME IS MODESTY is more of a "pre-origin" story - Modesty when she was dealing cards in Monaco or something. But it's cheaply produced and tries to be "dark" about Modesty's origins, which seems to betray what she's about even worse than the Sixties movie presented here.

  • there already is a modesty blaise "remake": it's called my name is modesty: a modesty adventure (2004)... it was directed by scott spiegel and - guess what - produced by tarantino... but it's shit.

  • Very 60's but not AT ALL in the tone of the original books or comic strips. Tarantino's take would be quite interesting, I'd wager. But who to cast as Modesty and Willie?

  • Yes a complete misfire

You're right Tarantino could get just the right amount of menace and absurdity, it could work, good idea, and there aren't many of them about.

  • the ramke of modesty blaise is comming soon the rmake of quention tarantino

  • Surprised Hollywood haven't tried to remake this!!

  • quentin tarantino is

  • Love the tattoo.

  • Great stuff. Really camp and quite marvelous. Want to buy the DVD. Hope to get it soon. Thanks for posting

  • I loved this movie too. I have the DVD actually. Bought it at TLA Video on Philly. It's available via the store website.
