Watched this again. Simply awesome. Learn more each time. DO NOT edit out mistakes as they are extremely instructive. For those that critique this, to hell with the. What I am not clear on is how easy/hard it is to change out calibers on the 1050. 650 just requires switch out pre-set up tool heads. What about for the 1050, e.g., switching from 45acp to 9mm. Again, thanks man.
Hey what's up SoCal just wanted to tell you lowbuck and obx thanks for the great videos on reloading just got my xl650 in yesterday and y'all made it a breeze setting it up thanks y'all keep the reloading videos comming
I watched some of your HAM vids as well as I am taking the Technician and General license tests in 3weeks. So, any basic ham set up vids, tips, etc. would be most welcome. Thanks for taking the time to do all you do.
Totally great vid. I appreciate that you do not edit out mistakes as this teaches the best. Thanks so much for taking the time to dot his. I am learning a ton. Can you do a die set up video for 9 or 45 app? Thanks brother.
@rovertri yea that sounds like a good idea... Id be happy to do that, might be a good learning tool... I love it when people say they are learning from my mistakes... that is exactly why I leave them in the video. thanks!
one of the things i didnt care for on the 650 is that it forces you to run progressive ie the primers advance wether you have a case in place or not, plus the possibility of primer detonation always scared me..anyway i ve been thru them all and currently have the 550 and am happy with it,but also liked the hornady lnl ap alot as well.i think how much you shoot directly relates to the press you buy...for me around 500 to 1k a month the 550 is perfect although i do like that 1050 .....someday
hey there socal question for you i have a dillon 650 that i bought after watching your videos of you using yours in the video you say the 9mm plate works for the .223 i have read that it takes a different plate which is it? if the 9mm plates works that would be the final push for me to try loading rifle. Thanks again and keep up the great videos i always learn from them.
@M24ike1 the 223 and the 9mm share the exact same size shell plate and primer punch so there is no need to change the priming sistem or the shell plate,... All you will need to swap out are the dies... or if you have a new tool head you can set up the dies for the 223 on it and just swat it out and it will be a configure and forget for both calibers.... allthough its a good idea to check you measurments and powder every now and then to make sure all is good.
Excellent review. Currently I am using a dillion 550B. Dillion 550B witch is a fine press, but looking for a faster system. Thanks you for explaining the difference between the two .
I'm not a surgeon or anything but it seems like a huge investment. How much is it to purchase the projectiles, primers etc. vs. just buying bulk ammo for around $0.27 per shot? How many rounds can you make per hour?
@myclem6674 depends on the bullet you are buying... I get cases for free, and the taget bullets I buy are 65 bucks for 500 so thats about 13cents a round, call it 14 cents with powder and primers... thats not bad for 45 acp... I can make 223 for about 12 cents... 9mm for about 9 cents.... it adds up fast...
@SoCalPreppers very interesting, I've always been quite pessimistic about the whole reloading idea but those are numbers that I can relate to. thanks for the response
didn't high primers where called Proud either. the reload king OBX had to have told ya that. He know's his stuff is an understatement. Great vid brother
@hickamfield2009 check out OBXsolwind, he does a caliber conversion from 45 to 308... or maybe the reverse... thats what inspired me to get this set up.
Wow, that was just the overview I needed. Really well done and some cool closeups there. I think after that I want both!! That sucks. But think I will for sure go with the 1050 when I am able. Thanks for doing that, I know it took a lot of effort, but I'm very certain lots of people have this question in their head with no resources to help them. You are the MAN! Gonna save this to my file of vids I'm collecting on the subject. Thanks again SoCal! Take care Brotherman
@PopPrepper I cant tell ya how happy that makes me Pop! I really hope I helped and notr just confused ya more. all said and done, I have to say the 1050 is as good as it gets... but its a bitch to change shell plates and primer systems. Id still get the 1050...
So you advocate for Dillon... that wasn't one of the options :) jk. Did you even watch my video? :) I made a "help socal, what do i buy video a couple days ago" lol Thanks for the advice and fabulous tutorial. Great video.
I know this is an off topic request, but please bear with me...seeing your vids on computers I wonder if you, as an IT tech guy, would mind recommending the ultimate gaming set up?...It doesn't have to include the actual components...a shopping list would do..thank you
@dapappacn dual processor system with at least 3 way SLI Nvidia based gapthics cards and atleast two 3 drive raid 0 or 5 arrays for speed reading, oh and a minimum of 12 gb of ram.... and a case that has plenty of air flow and well managed wires and cables. that should be pretty sick...
What case lube do you use? I assume that one or more calibers you use are carbide dies yet I think that I heard you mention case lube....just wonderin
I think you need to get a single stage press. Lee makes a depriming die that will deprime almose any case. Then you could deprime all that military brass and swage it before running it through the dillon. You can really crank out some ammo on that Super 1050! Thanks for the video.
Why why why did you have to make this one I was wanting a 650 and now I want a 1050 this is going to cost me a Grand more. :) well guess it is back to saving my beer cans so I can afford it. Love the vid keep them coming. I will keep drinking can beer
@KiloSierraAlpha i have seen this video... also a company that makes a machine you can tie to the the swivle that makes it 100% fully automatic... just press go.... seems to take the fun out of it for me... but pretty cool too
Excelent video Bro. You did really well explaining the difference between the 2 loaders. The dillions are the Cadillac of reloaders for sure...or should I have said the Lamborgini's?? LOL
@SoCalPreppers hey just a friendly reminder I see you leave your DeWalt batteries on when they are done charging . the problem with that is you will DRASTICALLY shorten the life of your batteries to prolong the life of the batteries pull them off the charger as soon as you possibly can when the are done charging. My uncle a carpenter/roofer of 46 years taught me that. He has been using dewalt for as long as I can remember . STAY SAFE my friend.
@SuperOchiba I know that the old nickle metal hydride batteries and the cadmium's did not like to be charged that way but lithiums are pretty good with this kinda treatment i was told... Ill have to check this out
This is exactly what I need to make a decision. Great vid! Thanks!
