30 years ago...magic. Weir's sorrow so very real. The whole band here is incredible in the the studio...Garcia's pedal or slide at 3:20 -- ahh what's not to love. These guys were always about the music and the fan's experience of the trip. Really a great group -- like a soul upon the western shore...
The guitar introduction is wonderful. Props to Bob, an excellent musician. He cannot do what Jerry did, but Jerry could not do what Bobby did/still does either.
ahh...the reason i started collecting bootlegs....73 louisvill ky. 74 boston weather reports.jai ali FL bill grams bday...i fell in love w it HARD!! i jumped on tour in less than a year later
DOLT!! your right...it all rolls into one ;-) still that 74 KY had that Weather Report>Other one>Its a Sin jam that took up the one side of the cassette that changed my perspective of music
turn it up as loud as you can, close your eyes, and let your mind fly forever; for these beautiful sounds have no intention of letting your soul return to this cruel and unjust world we live in.
The Grateful Dead are probably the best live band, but I think the Beatles are the best band. GD is in my top 5. If you read this go type in "monkey and the engineer" to hear a really awesome Grateful Dead song.
@KcinRosa ...ergo Fungi. A dangerous one, actually.
One could also argue: "Ergot ergo Knäckebröd."
But on the other hand, one could justifiably argue that this album cover more likely symbolizes Her Mother Bounty and the cornucopia of the blessings of life on the grounds that the content of the lyrics of the very suite you are now hearing more easily align with themes of that nature rather than with themes of rot, mould, decay, death and ill-health.
This was one of the first Dead songs I ever heard.
For some obscure reason, it was on a record that was ostensibly a "Heavy Metal" compilation that I had to hear a dozen times thru on a hitched ride from Pennsylvania.
By the time we got to Texarkana I was a fan for life.
Thanks so much, LST710 for posting it in its entirety.
I have always, from the beginning, appreciated the work of this band, but I also always thought that this was their most talented piece of work...by a full country mile.
i remember drinking blue nun and driving around smokin and listening to Wake of the flood I've always loved the moods it instills in me. I still remember that year 1976 just out of the navy and havin the time of my life and this had just come out and i used it as a relaxation aide but it has so many great songs on it thaat i love it only less than one dead album thats europe 72. Weirs greatest work ever and a testament to his genius.

Like a song that's "born to soar the sky", there is nothing before nor after that's ever aspired this high or even come this close to perfection.

I love the segue to 'Let It Grow' at 5:37... Incredible how quickly this heavily loaded and staged band can switch tunes and tones!!

Mystic song. Nothing hits you harder than what's real.

This was my first time hearing this song, and somehow I managed to jam along with it... I just sort of felt it.

My favorite GD song. I replay the first minute and a half time and time again and it becomes the mid 70's and life is so simple and good.
