funny when followers of a fighter, finally see there fighter loses.....the reason is all the same. "he's passed his prime" Jones fought Ruiz, beat ruiz and everyone was saying how great he is, moving up to heavies and beat a guy. then he moved down, fought tarver, didn't look good and they said the weight loss made him weak. Then rematch comes, he loses and then everyone saying he's passed his prime. How can he be a great one year beating ruiz, and passed his prime the next year losing?
@Junlt0, well in the sport of boxing some guys lose their prime little by little over a couple years and others lose it almost overnight. Specifically fighters who rely almost completely on speed, amazing reflexes, and superior fitness as the means to win. Roy is one of those fighters who used speed as his main weapon, both offensively and defensively. That style is the one which seems to not have good longevity.
@zk92000 i totally agree with you 100 percent about speed being the one to not last as long. But in this fight here.......i don't think Jones faded that rapidly. He has always been a fighter that liked to put his hands down, inviting the opponent in. He did that for over 40 fights and was able to get away with it that long, but how long can one continue to get away with that? Tarver was a taller man with an extremely long reach. He just simply got caught
Goes to show how shot Jones was to lose to a fighter of this magnitude. I mean Tarver lost his first defense, he was just another boxer to win a belt. Everyone's time comes to an end like with Ali, its impossible to be great forever.
With one punch Jones went from being considered one of the greatest, to a glass-jawed bitch.
He probably always knew he had no chin, and that's why he fought the way he did.
Even though he'll never be remembered as an all-time great, there's not a man who's ever entered the ring that goes to sleep like he does. When he gets knocked out, he really does it right. He's a real crowd pleaser. A glass-jawed man's man. A ring sleeper.
@Danny7shop We just need some of those arrogant fighters. I loved it when Muhammad talked so much,it was really entertaining. If would be boring if every fighter was humble. No need to be humble untill after the fight.
The difference between Jones and Hopkins is that Hopkins relied on his boxing IQ to guide him through fights whereas Jones relied on his superb athleticism. As Hopkins got older he might have lost his phyiscal capabilities but not his boxing knowledge, Roy however lost his athleticism and because he never really depended on his boxing intellect, suffered. It breaks my heart to see a great champion like Jones ruin his legacy, but hopefully he will retire for good now.
Tarver was the only fighter that could make Jones pay for his mistakes, look at his hand he never brings his left hand back up to his face while he is throwing punches, that wasn't good defense on Jones part and a good clean shot by Tarver.
Ummmm. It's not luck when you aim and hit the guy in the face! He got his ass knocked on queer street. Tarver is a good fighter there was no luck involved. Well Jones was lucky he could stand up.
@MatthewCeltic1991121 Who cares if it was "luck" or not? The only thing that matters is that he landed and won the fight. Stop making up excuses. If someone knocked you out are you going to say it was because of a "lucky" shot.
Can you say GLASS JAW. I remember he was always so cocky and he has been reduced to a tomato can. Look at what took place last night. What goes around comes around.....
@zk92000 he was Never at his best in the beginning of his career. He fought a bunch of B class fighters. Do you agree, to be a great you have to beat a great? name opponents he has beaten that were great other then the first Hopkins fight
you can see Roy Jones look at his hand as its coming thats why he missed tarver on his hook. he thought he would stun tarver but ended up playing his self
@themmshow Hey fucknut! WTF would you know? Too young and dumb! Jones beat Hopkins, Toney, Hill, and every other top contender for 10 years so piss on you!
the greatest two boxers of the 90s were both british...prince naseem and joe calzaghe you yanks are to biased. probly because boxing is the only global sport you take part in?
if calzaghe is a bum then what does that make roy jones? and hopkins? and jeff lacy? and kessler? calzaghe was a legend and if he was american he would be known as one of the greatest of all time! maybe calzaghe had some average opponents but name me a boxer that dosnt....roy jones certainly did
@joefrench555 LOl calzaghe was knock down by bernard hopkins. The thing is bernard was pass his prime so if bernard fought this brit fag when he was young maybe this will not past 5rds.
How is roy jones the most pampered champ of all time, he HAD ESSENTIALLY EVERY relevant title in his division, in fact he was the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world
roy shoulda retired after winnin the heavyweight title he was a gifted fighter and the 2nd best middleweight of all time but once u lose a bit of ur speed and ur techniuqe isnt that great this is what happens but so it does 2 all the greats!
@mike2hype Ya but it helps to be technical(hopkins), than physically gifted(Jones). Jones was one of the most athletic fighters I have ever seen, but age will eventually catch up, and the punches that he used to get out of the way of will land. It's a matter of inches. Hopkins was a technically sound fighter from the beginning, and it's pay dividends even in his 40s
@KizaSoze25 if ur not athletic its good to be technical but if i had a choice id be roy over hopkins anyday roys probably the second or third greatest middleweight of all time when hopkins is like 11 or 12
@jafarmartin its true theres never been a more physically gifted fighter then roy he ran thru great fighters like nothing and made um look like nobody's u can say all u want but the 90's spoke for themselves he was the fighter of the decade noone really beat him accept for that bs disqualification vs montell griffin and there were alot of great fighters that decade!
@mike2hype I agree that RJJ was nice But U also have to consider the Steroids...the ko losses...& His lack of a beard ANNDDD basic technical skills when u make that assessment. Athletically he was superior..& he was highly skilled & unorthodox & very flashy & exciting...But u put a man at number two who was laid out cold TWICE & doesn't even have a jab. Guys like Ray Robinson & the eras had 180 pro fights w/ over 100 ko's. And bernard is the new iron man. He beating guys @46 w/out 1pnch pwr
@KizaSoze25 technique is great in a perfect world but this world aint perfect u gotta do what works roy was the baddest in his prime he was fast sharp hit hard and very quick with his feet, sure ray robinson was technically giftted and went 128-1 but he fought the same guys like 5,6, enen 7 times just too get paid and stay busy cuz there was noone out ther, and bhop is over the hill too hes just fighting with his brain and his stamina, its a shame really in the 90's 80's they woulda retired him!
@MrTreyshawn22 I wish it would too but hes a pussy and hes too smart. That right that mosley caught him with probably gave him a big scare so he'll probably retire before somethin like that happens again
roy's speed is what made him a legend and when his speed declined so did his dominance. tarver II was the first time someone got lucky but roy's reflexes were just starting to decline. A younger Roy would have annihilated Tarver without incident. One thing anyone who really studies boxing can agree on though: Roy in his prime was absolutely legendary. Faster than Ali with the energy of a young Mike Tyson, he was damn near unbeatable.
i was hurt to see my hero get knocked out like that. Even more shocked when Glen Johnson clipped him. I think he shouldve retired after the 1st Tarver fight.
@ukandoittowithkandoo It pretty much did in the 3rd fight. Roy was just running trying not to get knocked out. Throwing one punch at a time. Late rounds, Tarver was smacking him around, and Roy got saved by the ropes. Tarver was just too big for Roy. Dont give me "he was old". No he was just mentally beat after this fight.
Do you know what Buster Douglas and Antonio Tarver have in common? Both of them got lucky beating two future hall of famers,Mike tyson and Roy Jones,Jr.
Roy Jones Jr. should never have lasted as long as he did as champion. For years I've told people that his hands are so fast that his opponents didn't realize that his defense just sucked....It took way too long for somebody to figure that out....
@cuckoonest7 There are no lucky punches in boxing. Ever. This is what they train months to do. Then again, I suppose every homerun is a lucky homerun too...
rjj was a legend in his prime......but he was soooooo fast that we never watched him take a shot...the truth is he really has a glass chin.....look at ali past his prime ... i mean way past his prime like against larry holmes back in 1980. he went 8 rounds n didnt get knocked down 1...he had an iron chin....rjj doesnt obviously
@hallnoats4ever, age and he should never have come down from Heavyweight in 2003 he had lost 25lbs of muscle in 1st Tarver fight and still managed to beat him but the writing was on the wall...should of retired after 1st Tarver fight with a record of 48-1 not 54-7! Sad times
Antonio Tarver sucks donkey balls! His whole career is an accident. Watch the Roy Jones Jr. KO fight. He just hit RJJ at the right time with no skill involved. Any fighter that had somewhat of a name, He barely beat this man and this is a joke! Bernard Hopkins proved just that. Tarver is a one hit wonder. Stop living in the past and show us something new. His fights are like a Bedtime story, They put me to sleep. B-Hop kicked his ass & it was too funny to watch.
calzaghe beat a shot past prime roy jones jr and can anybody agree that calzaghe did not hurt or beat down bernard hopkins i know that RJJ is done but he is still the best
Roy Jones Jr is still theee most talented boxer of this generation. A prime roy jones could beat any one at any weight class.Floyd jr and even ali.And I ain't even a roy jones fan I am a bernard hopkins fan but i have to admire his talent and skill.
gerald g-man mcClellan beat the shit out of roy jones jr in the ametuers and when they both went pro roy avoided g-man like the plague...roy looked great against bums but he obviously was carefully managed and avoided the true threats in the prime years...jones jr avoided g-man,nigel benn, chris eubank, steve collins,& julian jackson....if jones wouldve fought all those guys in his prime, jones wouldve got koed many times! prettygirl fraud gayweather is another cherry picker!
He is theeeeee best fighter of his generation. He has beaten nearly all tjose that have been put forward to him.He never ducked anyone. He didn't cherry pick.He beat Tarver,Winky & Pavlik over the age over 40.over over a decade he was undefeated and ruled the prestigious middlewieght divison beating every contender.
honestly your a joke if you put hopkins 3rd of the best of the time yu sed... any way yeah all im saying is ask any body who really knows about boxing and then you will find out that your crazy to think hopkins is the best of anything.... he best of all time rankings in my opinion and loads of other peoples Hopkins isnt even in the top 30... and dont get me wrong he was alrght but he was far frm being in the hall of fame in boxing ... honestly all im saying is he is nt great and deffo not great!
Hopkins losses are contreversial.Ive watched the roy jones fight & he should have won a unanimious decision. His next loss after 12 years to JT was political.JT was seen as a hope for american boxing because he was young.Bernard should have won split decision.Thier wouldn't have been a rematch.I have never seen his debut but he says the judges screwed him.and wouldn't have been the last time.He lost to Joe calzaghe fair & square.but a younger Hopkins might have given him more of a fight.
His fights may not be as brutal and have free flowing puches like in gatti fights. He fights as if he is playing chess. He makes his moves carefully and still manages knockouts and are still great to watch.
of all time
1.all the fighters of the 50's, 60's most notably Ray Robinson(simply because they would fight atleast once amonth even after they were champs.going into fights with bruises)
wrong you missed tyson in this he didnt stop boxing till 2007 it should go: 1.TYSON 2.ROY JONES JR 3.FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR 4.LENNOX LEWIS 5.PACQUIAO 6.CALZAGHE 7.DELA HOYA 8.HOPKINS 9.BARERA 10.ME...OJ I DUNNO WHO HERE
how can u put hopkins over jones wen jones beat hopkins witta broken hand..hopkins legacy is him defending the MW title over 20 times..but we all kno the reason he had so much success is cuz of jones leaving the MW division going up n weight..
@odatnaratto its funny when people said jones handpicked his opponent in the 90';s while he beat all top contender at the time including hopkins, toney and even heavyweight champ... while calzaghe actually fought name like roy jones and hopkins when they're 40
@Megadeth72 - so right about now, is there a human being that has knocked roy out? seriously, this clown should have played baskeball - like he said he would - the king of getting knocked OUT in the 2nd round!
Ali wouldn't beat Tyson? Go watch Tyson fight James Tillis who used Ali's style and took him to 10 rounds. Tillis wasn't half the fighter Ali was and he almost took Tyson the distance. Ali would kill Mike.
bullshit tyson was still young & lost 2 a 34 yr old holyfield & jus got flat out beat by lewis..dont bring that prison bs n2 the convo cuz ali went 2 prison & it didnt stop his greatness..
both were using left hand punch, roy even landed before, but taver had his full weight in it moving forward, and roy clearly wasnt expecting it... roy is a genious moving on the floor, but i guess this was really a huge mistake. Props to Tarver, he seems to have had a big reach advantage too, and used that to his advantage
hey, everybody!!! plzzzz, help me to find these videos!!!!! if you have any of them, plz contact me))) thanks felix trinidad-oba carr roy jones-eric harding (10 round) roy jones-otis grant (10 round) bernanrd hopkins - jermain taylor II (12 round) antonio tarver -glen johnson I (12 round) roy jones - derrick harmon ( 10 round) roy jones -antonio tarver II (full fight) thanks once again
Thats for british national people that live there. I'm looking for any mercnary group that'll hire me. I have 3 years with the special forces as support i've been to 9 of their schools and passed with flying colors. Pass the word eh? Is the british Amor Core Merc Group Still hiring?

hallnoats4ever 1 year ago

B-Hop kicked his ass & it was too funny to watch.

calzaghe beat a shot past prime roy jones jr and can anybody agree that calzaghe did not hurt or beat down bernard hopkins i know that RJJ is done but he is still the best
bernardob1262 2 years ago 2
Roy Jones Jr is still theee most talented boxer of this generation. A prime roy jones could beat any one at any weight class.Floyd jr and even ali.And I ain't even a roy jones fan I am a bernard hopkins fan but i have to admire his talent and skill.

gerald g-man mcClellan beat the shit out of roy jones jr in the ametuers and when they both went pro roy avoided g-man like the plague...roy looked great against bums but he obviously was carefully managed and avoided the true threats in the prime years...jones jr avoided g-man,nigel benn, chris eubank, steve collins,& julian jackson....if jones wouldve fought all those guys in his prime, jones wouldve got koed many times! prettygirl fraud gayweather is another cherry picker!
sinaloc0 2 years ago
nope not Ali. and not in this generation as he wouldnt have beaten a prime tyson would he.... in our generation 90's up it goes:
Tyson
Jones
Floyd jr
Calzaghe
correct me if i missed placed any one...and dont say hopkins cos dat aint right
antriach4 2 years ago
MY GOD MAN.HOPKINS!
He is theeeeee best fighter of his generation. He has beaten nearly all tjose that have been put forward to him.He never ducked anyone. He didn't cherry pick.He beat Tarver,Winky & Pavlik over the age over 40.over over a decade he was undefeated and ruled the prestigious middlewieght divison beating every contender.
gunman7891 2 years ago
honestly your a joke if you put hopkins 3rd of the best of the time yu sed... any way yeah all im saying is ask any body who really knows about boxing and then you will find out that your crazy to think hopkins is the best of anything.... he best of all time rankings in my opinion and loads of other peoples Hopkins isnt even in the top 30... and dont get me wrong he was alrght but he was far frm being in the hall of fame in boxing ... honestly all im saying is he is nt great and deffo not great!
antriach4 2 years ago
Hopkins losses are contreversial.Ive watched the roy jones fight & he should have won a unanimious decision. His next loss after 12 years to JT was political.JT was seen as a hope for american boxing because he was young.Bernard should have won split decision.Thier wouldn't have been a rematch.I have never seen his debut but he says the judges screwed him.and wouldn't have been the last time.He lost to Joe calzaghe fair & square.but a younger Hopkins might have given him more of a fight.
gunman7891 2 years ago
His fights may not be as brutal and have free flowing puches like in gatti fights. He fights as if he is playing chess. He makes his moves carefully and still manages knockouts and are still great to watch.
of all time
1.all the fighters of the 50's, 60's most notably Ray Robinson(simply because they would fight atleast once amonth even after they were champs.going into fights with bruises)
2.Ali
3.Hopkins
90's
1.Hopkins
2.Roy Jones Jr
3Floyd mayweather

how can u put hopkins over jones wen jones beat hopkins witta broken hand..hopkins legacy is him defending the MW title over 20 times..but we all kno the reason he had so much success is cuz of jones leaving the MW division going up n weight..

@odatnaratto Calzaghe is a bum from the 90's
diegoadelgado 1 year ago
@odatnaratto its funny when people said jones handpicked his opponent in the 90';s while he beat all top contender at the time including hopkins, toney and even heavyweight champ... while calzaghe actually fought name like roy jones and hopkins when they're 40
Megadeth72 8 months ago
@Megadeth72 - so right about now, is there a human being that has knocked roy out? seriously, this clown should have played baskeball - like he said he would - the king of getting knocked OUT in the 2nd round!
mollkatles 6 months ago
@odatnaratto So was Jones. That's how boxing works.

Ali wouldn't beat Tyson? Go watch Tyson fight James Tillis who used Ali's style and took him to 10 rounds. Tillis wasn't half the fighter Ali was and he almost took Tyson the distance. Ali would kill Mike.

how about tyson knocking the fuck out holmes who beat Ali??!

wade198807 2 years ago
Really bad for Roy
both were using left hand punch, roy even landed before, but taver had his full weight in it moving forward, and roy clearly wasnt expecting it... roy is a genious moving on the floor, but i guess this was really a huge mistake. Props to Tarver, he seems to have had a big reach advantage too, and used that to his advantage

You can't beat Tarver man, he's not only the magic man, he's also Mason Dixon
