Nice idea, thanks for sharing. Using the same concept as a wire trap this stick trap could be better constructed. Not just the spacing and the time taken. You create a funnel that leads to the loop. The funnel itself should be part of the loop. Having the loop conecting to the widest part or partway up the funnel. So that the funnel extends into the loop. That way as they swim about in the loop they will hit the corners created by the loop meeting the funnel and never hitting the exit.
If it was me I'd make the trap like in the video you're responding to, with the mouth facing out into the pond, but the flowing stream is good because it will carry the scent of the bait out into the pond further and attract more fish faster.
I love your videos. Can you make a video of how to make a frog trap? I love herpetology and I wnna make a trap just to view my local frogs because there is tall grass around my stream and they are friggin ninjas!
@rsims87 If the river is deep it wouldn't work. The river acts on the "wall" with a certain pressure, that is force per area. In other words, the greater the area of the wall, the greater the force exerted upon it. A big wall made with thin twigs will just be crushed by the force of the water.
@sixtyllama131O You know that few fish (namely spawning salmon) are smart enough to figure out that jumping over something will allow them to escape, right? That said, you WOULD want to use longer sticks and as stated, put them closer together. All in all, good job.
Awesome It worked a treat when i went out with my little cousins. told them I saw this on Youtube now they are also on here looking for more cool stuff. Thanks again
hmmmm using the same concept of a crab cage on fish.Thats pretty smart. However i think rather than getting a bunch of small sticks you could use the same amount you used and use something like ricks or even clothing as walls.

No fish will be swimming down a spring. Sorry....
hicohornet 6 months ago 2
@hicohornet sadly it is not a spring. It is a stream that flows over a mile down a mountain that contains native brook trout.

Would it work to weave longer thin sticks between the bigger sticks creating a wall similar to how a basket would be made?
rsims87 8 months ago
@rsims87 sure, give it a try!
