Angkor Wat is Lord Visnu's Palace! Lord Visnu is the predominating deity of Ancient Vedic Civilization. Vedic Empire was spread all over the word, so we see many similar temples in India and many Asian countries. Very nice temple, while this temple is biggest it's not active. The biggest active temple is Srirangam, in Tami Nadu, South India. We visited that temple the energy is amazing. Haribol!
I was there quite literally last week and saw no tourist traps etc at the main three temples. Well worth a visit - absolute insanity not to. Angkor at sunrise a bit overrated, but phenomenal, and do the balloon ride, it's $15. Seriously amazing viewpoint on a beautiful day. This doco is awesome too, I enjoyed it even more having been there now.
I like how the narrator said the "explorers brought the temples' attention to the world"...uh...Thais,Viets,Chinese, Indians all already know about these temples...except Europe...infact it was the "discovery" of these temples that you now have buddhist heads and broken parts of statutes from Angkor in rich western people's homes....

Went to Angkor in Dec 2000/Jan 2001 just after they had finished filming Tomb Raider out there. Extremely Beautiful and awe inspiring. The people there are very friendly too, they always seem to be smiling and they speak English very well, especially the kids.
We went to a New Years 2001 celebration in a stadium in Siem Reip, I was the only white face there, but felt at home and welcome.

Remember it's not about Angkor Wat all the time, there are other beautiful temples such as Banteay Srei, Chau Say Tevoda, Bayon and Beng Mealea. Go and explore the other temples, they are just as nice as Angkor Wat

My daughter and I spent a week in and around Angkor 12-09. The temples were incredible to experience. What I think for me was the best part, was the khmer people. They are a lovely people that have weathered horrible storms brought upon them by the French, US, China, Mongols and many others. And yet. They still are forgiving,warm and respectful. I wish I lived in such a place.

Why do the makers of this documentary ignore the fact that the complex is STILL in use? How can you “discover” something which is in USE? I have been to these buildings 11 days ago. Went to Angkor in Dec 2000/Jan 2001 just after they had finished filming Tomb Raider out there. Extremely Beautiful and awe inspiring. The people there are very friendly too, they always seem to be smiling and they speak English very well, especially the kids.
We went to a New Years 2001 celebration in a stadium in Siem Reip, I was the only white face there, but felt at home and welcome.
Hope to be there again later this year.

This lead to a big issue for later Khmer kings, they had to learn new language(pali). so they cant read Sanskrit anymore so how can the later khmer kings control the city and soilders since most of the temples were hindu. that why it's only about about 100 years later and angkor fall.

Remember it's not about Angkor Wat all the time, there are other beautiful temples such as Banteay Srei, Chau Say Tevoda, Bayon and Beng Mealea. Go and explore the other temples, they are just as nice as Angkor Wat

Awesome photography and nitration but as in most of all films like this must the accompanying music be so loud ? I'm just appalled at these film makers always having the music loud at times it drowns out important information from the nitration
by all means keep the music but keep it down, thanks.

Beautiful documentary. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Mr. Bell's voice is as gentle as the figures left standing. I hope that the government will watch the tourists more carefully so they don't polute the whole site. Tourists are damaging so many sites that have stood for thosands of years, meaning no harm but doing harm. Again, thank you. :)

Your more than welcome. Seim Reap I'm sure is different than the country's capitol. One could sense that the people had hope. Even with a lot of corruption. The locals were happy. I didn't see one altercation or angry person. The lifestyle has much going for it. If a person loaded up his wife and three kids on a honda 90 here in the states. They would be arrested. In your country it's a way of life. Peace:)

My daughter and I spent a week in and around Angkor 12-09. The temples were incredible to experience. What I think for me was the best part, was the khmer people. They are a lovely people that have weathered horrible storms brought upon them by the French, US, China, Mongols and many others. And yet. They still are forgiving,warm and respectful. I wish I lived in such a place.
