I think, behind his personality, Dante feels alone, specially after DMC3. that hole inside him is a hole that neither Trish or Lady can fill, because neither of them are able to feel how dante feel's. The anime and ending theme gave Dante great character development. Its obvious he suffers from the lose of his mother. I thought the ending animation was perfect showing him looking lonely like that. Its beautiful really.

This led to revenge that Dante hates anyone being a demon. Vergil who knows his mum was killed prefers to control demons instead. Thats how Dante= Demon Slayer, Vergil= Demon ruler
