NO! Is the simple answer to that and they should be kept away from a birthing mother and the babies for as long as possible. The mohers instincts might be to kill him or wound him. However on the other hand he may kill the babies or the protective mother!
Because he had been carefully introduced and gradually built up a bond through bars over a period of weeks before this face to face contact on camera!
Tell me please how do you built it up and how did he react when he first saw them did he go crazy or was he just agnoring them and did he attack them after that or was he protective of them.
When the babies were born he showed an interest in the noise they made.
I would hold him up to the bars or the other cage and his lady friend tried to pull him in. After about 3 weeks of this i started letting him meet his gf but she had other ideas she wanted to move the babies and she pulled them out whilst i wasnt looking and stashed thembehind the couch. I heard them and he was with them licking them and caring and his gf didnt seem to mind. Next came the video.
Not at all. He cannot feed them he has no paternal feelings or instincts in that way at all. He brought no food or he did was lick them but this stimulated them to poo which he didnt clean up!
Hey marinam2 I have a my first pet home cage that is two feet long, two feet wide, and two feet high is that big enough to keep a ferret in I used the cage for my pet rats until they passed away. Please write me back I need to know. sincerely Jess.
Anyone who would sell you a single ferret should not be selling ferrets. They should not live alone. They are much alike rats and need their own kind.
Yes that would be big enough for two ferrets so long as they are exercised sufficiently and until their are both about a year old. Ferrets need at least 4 hours of excercise a day. I generally allow mine run of the house until they are tired and they take themselves back to bed.
Yes dad MUST NOT be with the jill when she delievers of be there whilst she is raising them. She may kill him or them or he may do that for you. Litters are NEVER easy to predict mine had 5 only 4 survived but i have seen as many as 13 come out of a tiny mother.
can I please buy a ferret from you, there so cute. you see at my local pet store they don't carry un nuter ferrets an also there not as cute as youres!.
I dont get it...You said "dadies first time with babies" in the video, but in the description it says hes no the father. Is it like a step dad or somthing?
Blimey your observant *bravo* the deal is shhhh dont tell him he couldnt seem to get his act together so we used a stud but he will always be their daddy in my eyes since he raised them he just didnt create them.
Their names are Mack, Murphy and Carlos its in the info for them. We are getting a new addition at the weekend he will be mack and murphys nephew ie the son of their brother. We will call him Chester.
very nice ferrets this may sound gross but if you kept them would the mate with their siblings? Was wondering that way i know to get mine fixed if I ever decide to get male and female unfixed and they do the nasty and I want to keep the babies also do you know if you you got them fixed after they had babies would it hurt them anymore? sorry if this sounds wrong I breed fish so i have to keep track of where the fish come from so I dont have inbread fish that will almost always die and be off colo
To be honest i do not know. I would think the answer is yes because incest does not exist in the animal kingdom. I have kept two of those babies they live with the male i have sadly mum died due to an accident but they have all been castrated anyway.
uncastrated males STINK and even worse during their season.
Your ferrets are beautiful by the way. The male has a big fuzzy face lol. I got a male ferret 3 months ago and I wish he wasn't fixed. His offspring would have been pretty and sweet, but they might inheret a sweet tooth.
Males should be kept away from the kits and the mother - The mother can be overly protective of them and instinctually whether he is the father or not will want him away from the babies.
Males on the other hand can and do often kill kitts. So always eer on the side of caution. This is why i waited 19 days before he met them and why he was closely supervised. Marina:)
No they dont but they can catch colds and flus from humans so wash your hands a lot if you get ill with things like that and try to stop away from then.
omg - too precious! thanksforthe videos. i've been looking for info on breeding and babies. i dont plan to breed but i want to know as much as i can about my pets :)
4..4! my female had nine and she's tiny. I hear right at the beginning your jill hissing at the male but its not nasty. you know the lucking sound the mother makes to the kits. if you immitate it like i did the babies come running when you call them. At 4 week after there eyes open i took them on the field for a run around. they all ran into the bushes but as soon as i made the clucking noise...they would come running back calling at me it was well cute!
ive got seven ferrets and bred them.one of my jills r due kits in january.u have got really nice ferrets how many kits did she have?. last year i bred all three of my jills(jill means female if u didnt know wat jill means)and i had 31 babys all together. any questions on breeding ferrets or anithin else on ferrets just ask.
Yes it is and should always be done, males are often unpredicatable in their behaviour to new kits and jills become very overly protective of kits immediately after birth, and may attack him simple for being there.
Aaaw they sound like squeak toys.

Yes. That was all he was able to do. However like i said it was risky and there was no need for it at all.

Females should be seperated from the males when they have their babies, its standard practise.
marinam2 4 years ago
My ferret male was also not the father. It didn't go well. :(
Let's just say the litter didn't make it.
