@eightball8008 It's not the dance, it's that this couple needs help with choreography. They are not dancing with each other, the music is awful, and his clothes get worse by the set!
@TABULOUS1 - Oh and another thing, the brakes have not and will never be put on the exposure of an artform. This thing is spreading like fire! As a Chicago native -I'm glad to be able to travel across the country and find my regional dance no matter where I go. I love, appreicate and promote it. I've been doing it all my life and I'm proud to be a part of it's heritage.
You should get out and do the dance for the love of it - it'll relax you and release some of that tension. Be Blessed!
@TABULOUS1 - I'm not sure I understand exactly why you are saying what you're saying. Every artform that is appreciated, originated somewhere. When speaking of Jazz-we think New Orleans, when thinking Swing - we think West Coast, when thinking Hip Hop- we think New York, why is there an issue with relating Steppin to Chicago. The truth of the matter is, that's where it started. It took many years for this artform to migrate; it was strictly a Chicago thing. But all are free to enjoy it!!
we are both from Los angeles and learned in CA. we would never take from the history of the dance and are very greatful it made its way to now over 44 cities so as a people we can enjoy and embrace the art, whether it be old/ new school, youth, or old, I hope it stays positive and that there are cheers than jeers behind this performance
It kinda reminds me of the disco stuff as a kid. This shows our young people in a more classy light and that's what I support and want by the way because i'm tired of the false stuff of today fronting to represent me and they don't. If you click on my link, watch the SOS Band video above. Here you see the same styling of music, nice suits, fine ladies, a smooth step and a martini to match. This is who we are and not jigabooers, lol.
See, I don't believe it reaches our young people, b/c in Chicago all of the stepper's clubs are at least 25 and up and it's a more slower mellow environment, so I see the young sticking with juking. I want our young to embrace steppin' the way young latinos embrace salsa. (Actually, I'm still fairly young 28, so I'm in all of the clubs. LOL.)
RIGHT!! But the truth is that this is NOTHING like the steppin or boppin that was done in the 70s and 80s. But on a JBs song and it was on and poppin with all types of footwork and energetic turns nand spins. This dance that they do nowadays that they call steppin is slow and tired and catered to the old. Bring that old steppin back and watch the youth catch on.
This group is from North Carlina? Or are you from NC. Cause we are in the beginning stages of stepping in Greensboro. One day...if i work hard enough...this will be me.
i don't understand this dance, it makes no sense.
