Wtf? Dont be ignorant, I am sure that you dont even know some of Europian beers, that actuly are way beeter, like Šviturys. In Eurpope there are so many great small brands for example Zipfer, Kalnapilis, Okocim. In USA thay just buy a good name and then makes hell a lot of fucked up beer.
Sure comparing most Euro generic Lagers/Pils to US commercial beers isn't like shooting fish in a barrel - its like picking a fish out of a barrel and shooting it point blank range.
Lower end German beers still murder most main market Aussie beers.
Anyone who says American beer sucks likely hasn't had some of the amazing micro brewery beers from around the country. I'm in Wisconsin, where we take our beer seriously. New Glarus Brewery? Sprecher? C'mon kids... let's stop trying to compare national giant breweries that spew out garbage. This guy is clearly importing low key microbrews.
I am from Germany and one important thing you have to know is that not all German beer is good. Just Bavarian beer. Im from Munich and here almost every village has its own brewery and they are all good. (most of them)
BUT I've been travelling through Canada and the States and I have to admit that I kinda liked it. I wouldnt call it "beer" but some brands had some interessting tastes. I liked "Honey Brown", and a beer that was kinda red. Don't remember the name.
a beer expert? come on, that's no fucking wine! you should give a fuck whether it smells like banana or pineapple or shit and nobody needs to know if it tastes better in a bottle or a glass (bottle for sure)... damn, just drink it
Hey Skyy, I am really enjoying that you folks take so many brewing vocabulary out of the German language! Lager, Weizen, Schwarzbier, Dunkel and so on. But give some credit to our Czech friends as well. Pilzen the home all the Pils(ner) beers is in the Czech Republic ;-)
And just for the record:
A "Hefe-weizen" is translated word by word from German to English as a "YEAST-WHEAT" so there you have it - its an ale made with....*drum roll*...yeast!
As someone who worked in USA and now lives in Europe ... American beer is still on the much, MUCH lower level then beers from Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic or Austria ... there is no way that mix of beer and water from states can compete with properly brewed EU beer. So, the bottom line is - This guy is maybe an expert ... but expert who haven't tried any other beer than USA one.
LoL amercia is in the absolut taillight in beer producing and beer taste! nothing against your boy skyy but thats just complete bullshit! you've been to oktoberfest u should know good beer!
I love this topic. I'm American and tonight I went to a Surly Abrasive Cask party. Got home and had a Surly furious. Now I'm drinking a Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. @BackSeatL0ve well, that's only if you don't want foam on the top... but to be honest, that defeats the purpose of the carbonation. When beer is carbonated, the flavor is released more when there's the foamy top, or more commonly known as a head.
Cans might store the beer better than bottles, but generally beer companies are putting crappier beer into those cans. Lower quality, 4-4.5% ABV stuff rather than the 5-6%, purer stuff in bottles.
@BackSeatL0ve I've seen people doing that, but they mostly do it to avoid foam. I'm not sure if it has to do with the type of glasses these guys were using, but if he poured it that way, I would trust him.
@alejandrotopo the best beer is the one that's in your glass. Personally I like to drink styles that go with the season. Now I'm drinking stouts and DIPA's but will change to pale ales and bitters as summer approaches
Really dude?!?! Calling people "Eurofags" hardly raises your credibility. You know and i what we have in America because you have access to it, they don't. Just like we know little about their beer.
I promise you this though the Europeans are more open to trying the QUALITY beers we have in america, more than Bud drinking Americans are.
I'd be willing to bet that the same Eurofags who keep talking crap about American beer have never even tried a GOOD American beer. Ignorance at it's finest.
By the way, Budweiser is now owned by In-Bev... a Belgium company. LOL So by your guys own logic Europe is now the piss water capital of the world.
@EpicFknBrutality I admit I know very little about american beers that don't taste like water, so plz tell me what a "good" american beer is? You teach me about your beers and I'll teach you about the great swedish beer culture ;)
Here's the top 50 beers in the U.S. according to Beer Advocate. Beer Advocate is a site where anyone in the world can review a beer they've tried, and those beers are sorted by the average rating. Many, if not most0 of these beers are in the top 100 IN THE WORLD. To be able to hold an A or A+ rating on Beer Advocate is incredible with as critical and picky as the users on there are about their beer.
LOL @ All of you Europeans that think beers like Budweiser and Miller are considered "good" beers by American standards.
Nobody drinks Bud because it's "good", they drink it because it tastes like water, is cheap, and gets them drunk. The GOOD beers are made by smaller craft breweries like Sierra Nevada, Stone, Dechutes, Brooklyn, Founder's.... etc etc.
Thank you Jcdisconnect! That is what I preach to people who say Brand X's Stout is better than Brand Y's IPA. You can't say one is better than the other because it's not apples to apples. You may prefer it, but it's a whole different beer with a whole different flavor profile.
If anyone of you passionate beer lovers wants a fellow beer lover who is American but appreciates all styles no matter what country they are from. Add me on Facebook and we can learn from each other. Maybe exchange home-brews, homebrew recipes or our favorite local craft beers
@thegrandful I apologize as I was a bit crabby earlier. Yes, America does not have the lineage of European breweries but they've grown leaps and bounds over the past 15 years.
I am limited to the quality of European beers that I receive and am not 100% sure of the quality when it arrives. I hate light lagers and prefer IPA's, Kölsch, Alt, Bitters, Stouts and porters. No country is better because the styles are globally influenced and great when well brewed
No offense grandful but if that's what you know than you don't know shit! We get your beers here WE DO! However, you don't get the quality beers from America that us beer loving Americans are known for. Hell, there's beer in the state next to me that I can't get in my state.
True American beer lovers are not passionate about the beers you're accusing us of loving (Bud Miller Coors) but that's all you get from America so I understand your limited exposure. Remember the AD campaign budgets (Bud
@jetfire6 Yeah you are right, maybe I haven't tried out those quality american beer and I don't say that every american beer is bad...I am just saying that America is not notorious for it's beer...at least here in Germany and some other european countries there is this prejudice that american beer tastes like water...AND I don't accuse you of anything!
Besides it looks like you don't know much about european beer as well...we also have small breweries not only the major brands which get exported
A cicerone just knows which glass to use and how to pair a beer with some cheese. I learn about beer by reading and homebrewing. Cool world out there to be experienced through beer
You all are ignorant. I understand People are passionate about beer and I thought beer was a brotherhood where we all could appreciate each others products.
Unfortunately the only experience all of you have with American beers is fizzy bland Budweiser (German recipe BTW)
All beer that is well made is great no matter what country. Yesterday I bought 8 bottles of beer from 3 countries and 4 different US states. Only country that makes bad beer Mexico but their beer works for their climate.
@jetfire6 Actually the recipe for budweiser is Czech. It was stolen by the brewery "Budweiser Budwar" 's worst brewer who then went to the states to start budweiser... So if you ever come across a beer that says Budwar after the budweiser name, you will be able to taste the difference between European and American beer!
a country with the biggest variety of light beers is NOT the best beer country. kinda like driving an automatic car isnt really driving, driving a manual is.
lol its not wine skyy, why the fuck are you smelling it? and american beer will neva compete with europian beer period. as a matter of fact budwiser is now owned by a belgian/brazillian company(ab inbev) so there goes your number 1 beer.
By my comment I'm not excluding that Germany, Ireland, ... don't have good beers ofcourse. It's just that alot of European countries were already brewing beers while America was yet to be discovered. Point being made: I'll take European expertise at beermaking over American waterbeer anytime :D
@angelofdeath080189 Waterbeer? Are you aware that some of the strongest beers ever were brewed in America (Hair of the Dog Dave and Samuel Adams Utopias)? American craft beers are among the strongest in the world.
And don't even get me started on the Germans. They make some good beer, but it's mostly lagers, and their beer law stifles creativity.
I don't think Skyy should waste the Beer God's time if none of you are going to listen to him. He knows his shit so shut up and take notes.
thas how i lik to drink beer too, i hate the carbonation in it, but i wanna really try some german beer, ive heard from friends who have bin to germany tha its a million times bettr than the regular stuff from america
dude stop telling shit there is no better thing than belgian beer

Not alot of people have listed their favorites, so here are my top five favorite beers:
1) O'Dell's 90 Schilling. Try this on tap... Good on it's own, or with a meal.
2) Chimay Ale (Blue or Triple)
3) Hefe Weizzen. I know this is a more of a style. My nearest vendor generally has Pauliner, so I've grown accosted to it.
4) Bistol's Winter Warlock oatmeal stout.
5) New Belgium 1551 Black Ale.
I suppose on any given day an alternate for me would be te ubiquitous Guiness...

Dude, Germany has stronger purity laws. German beer rocks!! Only the micro brewery are the best the larger companies suck ass.

@alejandrotopo the best beer is the one that's in your glass. Personally I like to drink styles that go with the season. Now I'm drinking stouts and DIPA's but will change to pale ales and bitters as summer approaches
jetfire6 1 year ago
Really dude?!?! Calling people "Eurofags" hardly raises your credibility. You know and i what we have in America because you have access to it, they don't. Just like we know little about their beer.
I promise you this though the Europeans are more open to trying the QUALITY beers we have in america, more than Bud drinking Americans are.
jetfire6 1 year ago
I'd be willing to bet that the same Eurofags who keep talking crap about American beer have never even tried a GOOD American beer. Ignorance at it's finest.
By the way, Budweiser is now owned by In-Bev... a Belgium company. LOL So by your guys own logic Europe is now the piss water capital of the world.
EpicFknBrutality 1 year ago

The GOOD beers are made by smaller craft breweries like Sierra Nevada, Stone, Dechutes, Brooklyn, Founder's.... etc etc.

I just started drinking beer and by far Sam Adams Boston Lager is my top choice.

Authentic Genuine Irish Guinness is THE best-tasting beer in the world! PERIOD!
If anybody says anything else, my answer is: "you are incorrect and you have bad taste".

Thank you Jcdisconnect! That is what I preach to people who say Brand X's Stout is better than Brand Y's IPA. You can't say one is better than the other because it's not apples to apples. You may prefer it, but it's a whole different beer with a whole different flavor profile.

are you kidding .... has he aver tasted beer ? american beers suck ! and they taste like dirty water because that's what they are !

Okay I love all styles except for commercially available American Light Lagers (looking at you Bud, Miller, Coors)
Heineken is a good beer when it's fresh and not overly light struck. I will never figure out the green bottle thing

@jetfire6 green bottles are used for export

If anyone of you passionate beer lovers wants a fellow beer lover who is American but appreciates all styles no matter what country they are from. Add me on Facebook and we can learn from each other. Maybe exchange home-brews, homebrew recipes or our favorite local craft beers
Send Scott K Jetfire an invite via Facebook
Cheers

@thegrandful I apologize as I was a bit crabby earlier. Yes, America does not have the lineage of European breweries but they've grown leaps and bounds over the past 15 years.
I am limited to the quality of European beers that I receive and am not 100% sure of the quality when it arrives. I hate light lagers and prefer IPA's, Kölsch, Alt, Bitters, Stouts and porters. No country is better because the styles are globally influenced and great when well brewed

ToolyD 1 year ago
No offense grandful but if that's what you know than you don't know shit! We get your beers here WE DO! However, you don't get the quality beers from America that us beer loving Americans are known for. Hell, there's beer in the state next to me that I can't get in my state.
True American beer lovers are not passionate about the beers you're accusing us of loving (Bud Miller Coors) but that's all you get from America so I understand your limited exposure. Remember the AD campaign budgets (Bud
jetfire6 1 year ago
@jetfire6 Yeah you are right, maybe I haven't tried out those quality american beer and I don't say that every american beer is bad...I am just saying that America is not notorious for it's beer...at least here in Germany and some other european countries there is this prejudice that american beer tastes like water...AND I don't accuse you of anything!
Besides it looks like you don't know much about european beer as well...we also have small breweries not only the major brands which get exported

A Stout is an ale a porter is also an ale unless it's a baltic porter which uses lager yeast and fermented cold making a Baltic porter a lager.

So wait, is Stout an ale, or a lager?

A cicerone just knows which glass to use and how to pair a beer with some cheese. I learn about beer by reading and homebrewing. Cool world out there to be experienced through beer
jetfire6 1 year ago
In parts of Germany, so where I live,
producing beer is in our school educational plan !
It's possible to study producing beer here.
A Cicerone didn't study anything. You can get certified ,but not by something official.

American beer is shit.

By my comment I'm not excluding that Germany, Ireland, ... don't have good beers ofcourse. It's just that alot of European countries were already brewing beers while America was yet to be discovered. Point being made: I'll take European expertise at beermaking over American waterbeer anytime :D

@angelofdeath080189 I agree wholeheartedly.
saveoursandwich 1 year ago
@angelofdeath080189 Waterbeer? Are you aware that some of the strongest beers ever were brewed in America (Hair of the Dog Dave and Samuel Adams Utopias)? American craft beers are among the strongest in the world.
And don't even get me started on the Germans. They make some good beer, but it's mostly lagers, and their beer law stifles creativity.
I don't think Skyy should waste the Beer God's time if none of you are going to listen to him. He knows his shit so shut up and take notes.
