I want to move to Canada, the country to the south has a big problem with putting out quality music these days. This guy is worth digging into, I have his first 2 albums from 1973 and they are great, but they sound completely different. This sounds cool and very 1978.
I remember seeing this on SCTV when it aired ... awesome ... No lip syncing on that show .. all the bands were live ... I also remember seeing The Tubes on an episode of Scuttlebutt Lodge featuring John Candy's character Gil Fisher ... lol
great show and great memories ... I got too see Ian Thomas shortly after his performance on SCTV ... His band was fantastic and Ian Thomas was brilliant ... they came out after their first set dressed up like 'hosers' ... lol
Sorry to whomever made the interesting comment on this being a possible reference to Chuck Yeager and the X project; I've deleted your comment accidentally.
I think it's very possible that this could be about Yeager, though I'd always thought that it was about Paul Tibbets (pilot of the Enola Gay) dropping the bomb on Japan in WWII. As it turns out, neither of us are correct... Mr. Thomas said on his website that this is about big business.
Ah well. And you're right about the hoser sound too.
In fact, the song is actually about rich, powerful people who have the resources to escape from the calamaties they bring on themselves and others. Brilliant music from a great songwriter, performer.

It's pretty fitting that Ian would play on SCTV considering his brother... Dave Thomas... was one of the stars of the show!
