I personally am a fan of the way TV Tropes describes the series, "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is what happens when you ask Studio Gainax to do a Saturday Morning Cartoon." Considering this is from the studio who made FLCL, you have to look at how absurd and over the top it is (they can win literally on determination alone) and that every possible innuendo is probably intentional. I also love how they wave their hand at the science and divert the conversation.

Where is the mindf*k in Gurren Lagann? The only example I could think of is Boota evolving into a human thanks to "Spiral Power" and then reverting back to his pigmole self, but, for a Gainax series, there is an unusually low mindf*k-to-awesome ratio.
