@awde2 Peter Hollingworth. He was the archbishop of Brisbane and little johnnie gave him the Governor-General position. While he was archbishop he was presented the case of a priest practising child abuse and, rather than bar him from the clergy, just moved him to another diocese. This came to light when he was GG and he was forced into resigning by public outcry.
@awde2 Trevor Flugge from the Australian Wheat Board (AWB) who was later found guilty of bribing Saddam Hussein with 100s of millions of dollars' worth Australian taxpayers' money.
Cruel, out of touch, elitist, outdated, was so happy to see that little maggot and the Coalition go, just hope the disgusting little piece of fundamentalist vermin never becomes our PM.
("He kept them out, despite our jives" at 1:45. I recall nearly 90% of us Aussies NOT wanting the boat people in from at leats one poll) Never mind though.
As far as I'm concerned, he was one of the best Prime Ministers Australia has ever had, despite his flaws and errors.
He'll be missed once the hype over Rudd dies down.
Just because they're different leaders of different countries doesn't mean they can't be compared. They both lead allied nations at the same time for some time. They faced similar global problems and challenges. To say you can't compare them is like saying you can't compare 2 footballers who play in different leagues - which is ridiculous.
Although I do agree that Howard "wzs" much better than Rudd.
From the sounds of it, you're saying that you can't compare people who aren't exactly the same.
And of course you can say "my fish is better than your cat". You can be talking about which is a better swimmer or which fits best in a bowl.
If it's wrong to compare Howard to Bush, who can I compare him to? With your reasoning, its surely stupid to compare him to Rudd as they're leading at different times? Or shall we not compare anyone?
And there's no way your cat is better than my fish.
Sounds like you've realised how wrong and ignorant you've been and are trying to cover it back through sheer rudeness. Looking at your profile, it seems that you regularly go around criticising everything. Grow up.
Of course it makes sense to compare them: they were both in office at the same time for 7 years. During that time, they both faced some similar issues and they dealt with them differently.
Your argument seems to be very contradicting, you try to say the comparison is ridiculous by quoting the years in office of Howard and Bush (of which they were both in office for 8 years) and yet through many other comments, you've directly compared Rudd and Howard. You're making this up as you go along.
As for your "speech" idea - what does that have to do with anything? If you're delivering a speech on the relationships between them, then you would obviously talk about their relationship rather than comparing them.
If you, however, found yourself delivering a speech on the different approaches to world problems from the years 2000-2007, how could you not compare them? The fact is: you couldn't (well, you could seeing some of the stuff you've written). I rest my case.
Hmm... I forgot about this. Basically you can compare their responses, reactions and approaches to similar problems or adversities that have faced both countries: global warming, war on terror and foreign relationships.
They both lead 2 close western allies and sometimes had to tackle similar problems. When analysing these situations, it would foolish not to compare them.
Normally I would say: That means I win. But as I took so long to respond - can we PLEASE call this a draw and finish?
Funny funny. I was 10 when we lost in 1996. From then right through to last month, all I ever wanted was complete and total revenge against Howard. After eleven and a half years when we finally won on that magical night, I felt no joy in Howard's defeat. Id imagined and fantasised about Howard's defeat many times over. When it came, it just wasn't the same.
loved that song - true as well (especially the comment about the smirk face). Hope the Chaser comes back for the 2nd half of 2008 or at least at the beginning of 2009
