I love Gavin Newsom. Yes, the man had an affair with his best friend's wife and totally lacks moral fiber, but he is a Catholic devoted to gay marriage. As a kid who lives half an hour from San Francisco, I support Gavin and hope he keeps giving out marriage licenses.

Idk much about the book of Mormon but the bible does not really speaks about homosexuality as we know it today. To us, it is the loving commitment between two people. The bible needs to be looked at within historical context. Translations have changed as the church transitions through states of hypocrisy, truth, and prejudice. The bible speaks out against homogenial acts that cause pain and degrade someone else. It does not speak about loving relationships between two people of the same sex.

We were at the Sacramento Rally and it was wonderful to feel the incredible energy and hear the awesome speakers! Yes, we do have a LOT of work ahead of us. Now we know how the LDS Church pretty much passed Prop 8 all by themselves. We can do it too! In fact, we can do it much much better! I just came home to the East Bay from the Marriage Equality rally in Sacramento, CA on the steps of the capitol. It was an amazing rally with a hugely diverse crowd in support of equal rights for all. That is the bottom line! I was pleased to add my voice (str8) to the group on equality for everyone!

I support Mayor Gavin 100%. I love that he made that speech. It may not have helped our cause but it certainly made my day. I applaud him for his courageous involvement with GLBT rights.

Mayor Newsom is among the bravest politicians in the country. It's clear we need more like him regardless of GLBT issues.

For anyone to make much about "like it or not" speech is to forget LGBT folks have been demonized and murdered for centuries by the same kind of people who, with their religiously indoctrinated bigotry, voted away our civil right.

They only used the phrase as an excuse for what they were going to do to us ANYWAY, like it or not. I don't think it really affected the vote.

As an openly gay man working in the ultra-conservative airine industry as a pilot and an openly gay bodybuilder, I do have to agree with "theknoghtswhosay" that Gavin's "It's gona happen "speech was a mistake, and the Prop-8 supporters grabbed on to it as a "threat" in their hateful miselading ads. This is much better-conceived. Prop. 8 is about EQUALITY and we are the only group in the U.S. that is regularly refused our constitutional rights. We must continue to fight the hateful homophobes!

Sorry but I'm no longer in the Gavin Newsom fan club. His arrogant and obnoxious "victory" speech 5 years ago turned off a LOT of gay people and it was used to Absolute Perfection in TV commercials by the Yes on 8 people. Our EMBARRASSINGLY BAD TV spots made me so angry because they were so ineffectual and ultimately harmful.

I don't agree with a lot of his decisions, but at least as far as this issue is concerned, he is working to do what's right. So I too question his methods, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate where his heart is.

I'v been following the movement to overturn 8, since the memorable day came that my best friend michael called me in tears, telling me the terrible news.
