To get the low end and the growl without the fizz, who have to design the amplifier to saturate the signal while pouring in the right amount of capacitance and resistance to control the (Frequencies) that you want to amplify. Highs, Mids, Lows, subs. And do that without it sounding muddy. Now, you understand cost. It also has much to do with the players hands... , single coils, humbuckers, or active preamped pickups.
I wish I could have been there. I'm just too far away in Tampa. In the video it sounds like you're moving some major air. Is that Egnater a non master volume amp and you just turned up to distort in the video? I love that sound you're getting and always wondered if you could get that at lower than gig volumes.
Mark - I just had to watch this again, Damn that thing just growls! I'm still confused by why some high gain amps can get that growl while others don't sound that huge. And there's no fizz to that gain at all which is amazing. I know you said you use active pickups, but do I also need a lot of volume to get that sound?
say there is somebody who has lots of playing experience but not really any circuitry/electronic experience. can he go...? is it suitable for people who don't know a whole lot or are most people know most of the stuff already?
wow must be an extra joy to play an amp you made, I dont have the electric tech skills to do that. I make some great fishing lures and when I catch something its a rush so I can imagine how great you feel plating that amp. Anyway once again use it in good health on great gig during happy days. God bless stay well keep rocken. warmest regards Awesome John

Was your Egnater seminar amp based on one of the mojo marshall kits?

Slighty, Bruce changes the layout quite a bit.

My mistake Mark - in the vid you did say the gain was up, so that answers my question about master volume.

Where you at NAMM? I had it there and it sounded great even at low volumes, I did use my pedalboard with it though.
I prefer my OD100se+ at gig volumes.

did you get this when you went to the egnater amp seminar? Did you go to one, because i really want to. it seems like it would be pretty sick.

Yes this is what you build and you get to keep it...it's an awesome experience.

Wow, that is some beefy, growl-y goodness. I much prefer that over a JCM 800

KILLER ! Did you use 34's for the power? Can you get any cleans from this beast too?
steven21042 3 years ago
hey man, if you had to choose between this amp and a splawn competition which would you choose?
DylanBurke 3 years ago
where did you get it and what does the clean channel sound like? and Does it come with a footswitch?
guitar4life9 3 years ago
I built it. Clean is good but is not foot switchable. You can switch between a lo and hi input, but it is not a 2 channel amp.
samhillband 3 years ago
cool amp how much would you charge to build one.
bullymouth 3 years ago
$1550 plus shipping.

Hey man that sound GREAT! Just out of curiosity what model is the Randall Cab you're using, cuz I'm looking into getting one.

wow! Use that bad boy in good health my friend that is one badass motherfucken amp!
Holly shit!
Egnater stuff is cranking...
what preamp is that in there? What mod?
awesomejohnnet 4 years ago
It's based on a JCM 800 circuit but more gain and bottom, smoother highs.
