I heard this song once or twice on the radio as a kid and it NEVER LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Haven't heard it since then till now. That's like 30 years of humming this or singing in my head.
The concept is great--it's very 80s. The performances are good, too, albeit cheesy but not too cheesy for the 80s. What the video lacks is a sense of direction, someone to rein in the different images and present them in a way that the brain can better process the message.
My wife and I saw these guys in NYC a handful of times . . . great, fun songs, wish there were more videos. It's Not You always makes me laugh (I think they're singing about my family :-) . . .). As long as I'm wishin' it'd be fun to hear the last words that come to mind, something like "let's eat, let's eat, you gotta move move move move move your teeth." ROTFL
what does that have anything to do with anything. I'm sorry you're racist and feel the need to put white people down but I have never seen any black person try to make music that sounds remotly like this. You might want to think before you speak and say something that makes you look like a jacka**.
It's official white people suck at music thats why they have to copy off blacks (Example eminem Jon B robin thicke teena marie amy winehouse Elvis presley) the list goes on whites may call blacks niggers but they know we will always be cooler than their lame asses white people are pasty and boring.
@keepingitreal15 Eminem is not a nigger so get you're facts right. When most black people rap you can't understand shit their saying and all they talk about is money, cloth, shoes, and girls masturbaiting. Get you're facts right before you open up you're ignorant ass and talk shit.
To dismiss them as "attempting to strike gold in the 80's punk rock scene is to miss the entire point of punk rock. Malcom, Sid and Johnny didn't make "music" to please the masses or for the art of it. Haven't you ever seen or listened to "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle"? Then entire point of punk rock was to mine gold from the masses or at least the corporations. watch?v=0jWWSVqzLT4
Looks like the Chatterbox on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights NJ .What a band my gawd so , so ,well its hard to describe a great bunch of guys not really taking seriously the music scene .I love it as a musician myself every time i saw this band was refreshing ....
Overly contrived and calculated -- but it looks like they're having fun and dipshit music fans are paying them to do it. (I'll bet every one of them got blown after each gig) If they were making music today they'd have tattoos, one would be bald, they'd lip-synch every live appearance, and they'd use so much synthesizer you couldn't tell if they could actually sing or not. I've seen much worse videos. Check out Jan Terri's stuff -- OMG awful stuff.
Cheasy, yet kinda funny because of. Some kinda 50's thing going a little bit and an Elvis Costello wanna be, I think I saw. Did like Elvis Costello though, don't get me wrong, to whoever, thank you..
I see they decided not to illustrate "white stuff in my nose," though Sergeant does mug a great little white-powder sniff after that line. These aren't their best lyrics - those are probably:
I'm over here
You're over here
She's over there getting dressed
I didn't expect you home so soon,
As you probably guessed
or all of "(We Are the) Nowtones." Blotto was great.
I have had this song stuck in my head for 25 years! Thanks YouTube! I couldn't even describe this song to anyone who hadn't heard it. They just looked at me like I had 3 heads. (I only have two, thankyouverymuch!)
A classic example of "Sarchasm" - the yawning gulf between the author of ironic wit, and the fool that doesn't understand it. The song and the video is a satire of the music and the music videos of the era. It's a joke! Get it?
This was classic at the time... I still sing it today! It was SUPPOSED to be kind of cheesy. They couldn't have been ripping off Devo because they were happening at the same time. Get a clue...
Anyone who labels this as a "bad 80's video" doesn't get it. That was the point! They were parodying other videos of the days. They knew they were being cheesy. That's why they were so funny. Check out Blotto's other videos "I quit" and "metal head".
This is a great video! I grew up in Albany and saw these guys live many times. They were always hilarious! Behind the humor was the fact that they were great musicians. Long live Blotto!
They started out as the Star Spangled Washboard Band and morphed into Blotto. Played the old Cleveland Agora many times and opened for Ginger Baker on night under dubious circumstances.
Baker didn't want another drum kit on stage so Henry LoConti went to the downstairs bar where the SSWB were playing and told them they were playing upstairs.
Baker threw a fit when SSWB went over like gang busters with his crowd.
Hey there pruel - I was also at Hitsville in Passaic, NJ for this show. I think it was more like 83, but that's trivial. Do you still have your picture ID card? With the yellow background?
IMHO it's not great, but hardly the worst, The one thing I didn't like is that it almost feels like they can't decide whether they're a rock band or a chorus sometimes.
If you grew up in Albany, NY in the 1980s, Blotto was, and remains, the greatest band in history. If you think this was a bad video, then you just don't get it. Sorry losers. And now, Goodbye Mr. Bond.
Blotto always put on a great concert! Lots of FUN! You can actually understand the lyrics. No shouting or screaming (except in "Metalhead"!) Remember this was back in early 80's. MTV had been on the air a couple of years, local band doing their best on shoestring budget to get themselves promoted, they did an awesome job! They still play very occasionaly, just never when I'm there!
This isn't serious enough to make a whole decade suck. It you want to see something that made the '80s suck, check out the theme from "Beverly Hills Cop", "Jump" by Van Halen or "Shout" by "Tears for Fears".
