  • Also,its almost 2012, and I don't see any in California yet?

  • @DBSpy1 none in miami either

  • This country (USA) has become all about a fast buck, that's why China is owning.

  • like!

  • electric vehicles are the future for China, it will be perfect for their populous cities. Less noise, pollution, and cheaper to operate.

  • i've been on BYD E6 taxi many times in the city of Shenzhen, China!~ I have to tell you the car is comfortable, and there is not too much engine noise too!~

never underestimte this company!~ the founder and also the CEO of the company is a genius!~ it'll always take time to prove someone a legend

  • Sounds like a load of bullshit.

  • @Charles2337 I agree.

  • this car looks and sounds amazing.

  • I am a firm non believer in miracles ,so ,i just have to wait and see.

  • I find it hard to believe the 250 miles and 80% charge in 15 mins bit but seeing as BYD is more a battery maker than a car company you can be sure the stuff they use in it will be the best electric technology around. They have a totally new type of battery which has a longer usage life and 100 recyclable.

Coupled with the fact it will be cheaper to produce and buy than rival cars which are made in expensive places like Japan this might be a big global winner. Warren Buffett seems to think so!

  • I would love to be a long-term test driver for this vehicle. But, I don't think they'll be sold in my state any time soon....

If the performance specs prove out, good for them!

  • hi,guy,I have a BYD car ,the quality really good,I had it 3 years ago,it hadn't any problem with it ,

  • I just read in a magazine it is a 185 mile range. Still, its a lot more than what everybody else is offering.

  • Those that are bashing this car because of its "Made in China" tag are retarded. 250 miles on a single charge!!!, are you kidding me?

  • what would be best is to buy the drivetrain and install it in any car. to convert all cars to this would be best. save having to buy new cars. Just buy the engine, Li-ion batteries etc. Because the batteries are much smaller than Lead acid etc. This company makes batteries for motorola and nokia so they know what they are doing. shame the other car makers aren't up to speed

  • BYD is just another Asian car company copying other companies. Americans don't buy this crap, get the Chevy Volt!! This Chinese car will fall apart so fast, just like everything else made in China!!

  • umm dunno about a chinese car most of the things that made in china fall apart pretty fast.

  • @krzintegraboi

    Like your computer? Yeah.

  • It's currently sold only in China, maybe next year in US, 250 miles on a single charge + 10 minutes recharge (needs charging station), currently used mainly as taxi

  • omg I want one!!!! in this US auto economy, the only thing US automakers still have a chance is luck, acquiring foreign technology, and american patriotism. Luck is running out, they getting foreign technology is a good start, american patriotism is what keeps them alive.

  • @spike378

So what? America has many races, many peoples, many creeds. Plus, SAIC is buying a chunk of GM during the IPO.

  • tags spam.

  • THIS CAR IS ASS UGLY, IIM MOST LIKELY BUYING THE TESLA MODEL S, LOOKS AWSOME AND SUPPORTS CALI

  • are they for sale yet? Where do I buy one? Sign me up.

  • It is noteworthy that BYD has yet to bring a single hybrid or electric car to market and has repeatedly missed launch deadlines, giving rise to speculation about BYD's labor-intensive process of cell production's capability of achieving the uniformity of quality required for electric car batteries

  • IT"S OUT TODAY!

  • it is noteworthy that BYD has yet to bring a single hybrid or electric car to market and has repeatedly missed launch deadlines, giving rise to speculation about BYD's labor-intensive process of cell production's capability of achieving the uniformity of quality required for electric car batteries

  • All the chinese do is wait for other countries to develop technology and then take it. The build quality is disturbingly horrible, as are the safety ratings.

  • @shift2max yes, If It wasn't because in this case the product is FAR superior to its competitors

  • this time what BYD do is copying technology developed by others several years in the future. BYD should have waited until others published their versions before its own.

  • No, others should release their products -or have released them- many years ago, and not wait to release them with an acceptable price when the petrol is gone ...

  • @shift2max, dude, the technology used here is entirely BYD. It uses Lithium Iron Phosphate battery while all other electric car that will come but or are already out uses regular lithium-ion batteries. I agree with everything else you said though, build quality is lower than all of the well-known auto-motor giants, safety is worrisome.

  • @shift2max, but what do you expect? the Chinese automotive industry didnt take off until mid 1980s to early 1990s, while american auto industry started in around 1900, Japanese around 1920s, and the germans around 1930s. It is only right for things to be the way it is right now.

  • @shift2max

You took Galileo's math. Stop taking superior Italian technology!

  • price?

  • wooooahhhh i want a clean earth :DD

  • This is going to be good! 15kWh per 100km, 400km range, 15mins for quick charge. Currently being used as Taxis in Shenzhen which normally covers 600km per day. If the crash test is 4 stars and above, it will really be my dream car!

Spacious, energy efficient, low maintanance cost,

quiet with good handling. (I am not too bothered by the slower acceleration)

  • Comment removed

  • Once again it takes the chinese to whopp our arses and get a head start, while we all rest on our laurels and moan about the implications and that "it doesn't make a noise" the chinese streak ahead and put another nail in ICE engines

  • actually... add battery!

  • yeah...they have 4 wheels and a cabin - just like Ford.

  • holy shit chinese are btaking over!

  • Move over US and Japan, I'm pretty sure we'll be buying our cars from China... if they can sell this car with everything that is promised at a reasonable (20Kish) price.

  • i read it'll be around 40 K, but still reasonable given its range compare to the competition

  • Considering China is not encumbered with crippling old ways of thinking, does not have to please trade unions, and already leads in developing green technologies, there is no reason not to take their claims seriously.

Unlike the US, and as it is no secret that the Chinese do not brag about their achievements before they can actually substantiate them (national pride makes sure of that), it comes as no surprise that this thing is a reality prior to promoting it in China. The US must wait.

  • watch?v=bfsaiQM0sno

some of those cars have already been sold to some taxi companies, for the price of $2/100km. The price for electricity in china: ~0.17$/kwh, which is a little more expensive than here

  • There seems to be this consevative right leaning stigma with EV's and skepticism from everyone. Lets just give it a chance first

  • @wing0410 ...jealous wont do you any good, kid, come to China and learn the most advanced technology is the way to go for high school drop outs like yourself.

  • ur dirty mouth is full of shit, so shut the fuck up

  • @cowrunkey Exactly. The US and Japan stole their way to parity too. No reason for us not to. Lol :)

  • Bet that's what they carved on your grandpa's sorry-ass tomb stone after he was fvcked by "chinks" in Korea.

  • Compared to the competition, the Volt's 40 mile electric range is looking shitter by the week.

  • Trust China,haha...

  • trust USA, hahaha!

    #k.

  • who cares what the yanks think, I just wish that people in china would buy more electric cars to improve the enviornment. The pollution in china would end up killing more chinese than any past or future war ever could.

  • It's true that it may happen to China, but then you are talking about China's problems when the US hasn't even begun pursuing all-electric vehicles....?

  • Japanisrules: Weird I was just thinking the same thing. First it looked like a BWM logo, then a Kia, now a Ford...

  • People, to be serious, even if you do not trust this company, you will have to trust Warren Buffett because he has already invested a lot in this company.

  • @eugeneoneguin Considering a car with that many km's would need a new engine, most likely countless transmissions and other engine parts... is that good amount of km's for a vehicle? god damm do you drive? would u seariously trust any car for a road trip with 600km's?

  • Not lost in translation. 400 km in a single charge.

  • gee, I hope they deliver what they promised.

  • Nice car!

  • HOLY SHIT: 250 miles after a mere 20-minute charge?

    wow

  • Uhm.. where did you hear 250 miles after a 20-minute charge? He said 50% battery charge in 10 minutes, which is 125 miles. Then another 1-2 hours to fully charge to 100%. Nevertheless, 125 miles after a mere 10-minutes still qualifies for your "HOLY SHIT" and "wow."

  • BYD and Chery are currently the world's top 2 leaders in hybrid vehicle technology development.

It is predicted that in the near future over 50% of all of the vehicles in China will be hybrid or electric (while only 9% in other nations).

  • That don't last? Where did you get this information? Unless its directly from someone who owns the car or from the manufacturer itself or an unbiased source, I fail to see how what you say is true. Also coming from China I doubt to replace it will be very expensive.

  • Well apparently BYD projected the batteries will have a life of 2000 cycles or 600,000 kilometers..

Would that be considered to be able to last? I acutally don't know.

Just a note, BYD is actually a battery makekr, so it in theory is already proficient and experienced in making good batteries.

  • byd is the world's second largest battery maker. THEY MAKE THEIR OWN BATTERIES. THEY MAKE COMMERCIAL BATTERIES THAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE.

  • this car is incredible!! runs 250 miles, 10 minutes charge for 50%. This can save alot of gas money

  • will see

  • I stand behind those who will believe it when they see it. The Tesla roadster can do this type of performance, the question is will the byd be more affordable.

  • fuck yeah, its from china!

  • Does anyone have a link to this vehicle in a real live demo, that is, not just parked? It's been in a China auto show in 2008, and the Detroit auto show in 2009, but yet still I cannot find a live demo with the E6 driving around.

    Thanks.

  • I've been wondering the same thing. I just heard about this car today and have been looking for a live demo or drive test for any BYD cars and found nothing even though these cars have been making headlines and been talked about for over a year now. You'd think some auto journalist would've gotten their hands on one of these by now.

I'm Chinese and I almost want to call BS on these claims...but even if they can reach 50% of their claimed performance, it will be a impressive feat

  • check here: watch?v=bfsaiQM0sno

they are serving as taxis in china now

  • Ferris battery? 250 miles/charge, 50% charge in 10 minutes. Watch out America. We are getting way behind if the Chinese have these. MIT, Caltech ,NASA wake up!!!!!!!!!!!
