...Because the girls of cast of DOA are simple fighting characters. Little to no story behind any of those games, whereas you go through sometimes 50+ hours of storyline and adventure in the FF games. And, over-all FF is just a more popular series than DOA, (just in the gaming community in general).
Yeah, there's little story, but the story that's there is really good. Which is odd, since no one should really play fighting games for the story, so a decent story was a nice surprise. I mean, after the crap about Devil Genes and the Dark Hado and all this other lame crap, it's nice to have a story that's actually kinda good. Not oscar-worthy, not the best in video games ever, but pretty good.

Well, that IS usually how these things go down. No one will win in the end, because they will have banded together and become friends instead of enemies (though I expect there to be some anymosity between Tifa and Hayate <.<). But expect Monty Oum to throw in a few more surprises before we get to that point.

Sure, Tifa is popular, but this isn't a popularity contest. Right now, I'm happy that Hitomi is remaining competitive, and in fact could even be argued that she's winning. It's a refreshing change coming off DF2.
Watching the videos and reading the comments has me confused on the order in which things occur. I really like the fight between these two thus far though.
I like Tifa, too, I respect her for her agility, she is my favorite character of FF. But I prefer Hitomi in DF, she don't use magic things or materias.
Ah yeah true enough. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that this is that this is the first time a DOA girl (Hitomi) came out ahead one on one against a FF girl (Tifa). Usually the DOA girls would only be winning when they outnumbered the FF team.
Not exactly my friend remember in Dead Fantasy 1 Kasumi handled both Rikku & Yuna very well. Not to mention in DFII she defended Ayane so she could be able to cast her ninpo move. But Hitomi did do very well!

How do you know for a fact that Kasumi will lose to Cloud? You saw more footage than what we have seen in TeeKayN's vids?
Remember that, if you're basing this upon character backgrounds, Kasumi was to be the 18th Master of the Mugen Tenshin style (something that Hayate can not be), and is, generally, always holding herself back. She's not exactly going to be a pushover for anyone, although she tries to *match* them.
Actually, I'm gonna agree with xuxstreets, with things like this, there's always a little bit of formula. Now, formula isn't really a bad thing, unless it hinders originality, which clearly isn't the case with Monty Oum.
Kasumi definitely isn't a pushover, but neither was Tifa. With Yuna clearly tired from summoning, Cloud is going to take over the same way Hayate did. This is just speculation, but I though I'd just explain my reasoning. Sorry for interjecting myself into the conversation. <.<

Yes the footage is incomplete, but if all goes well Monty will show the complete version in july. Orginally he was going to show only DF3 at this convention, but due to him being busy, he didn't complete it. So he made a presentable version for the show and decided to show the full version at the Anime Expo in july.
i was just thinking, cloud is related to tifa, hayate is the brother of kasumi if im not mistaken. and in the preview of yuna-kasumi fight, cloud appears. so maybe, cloud is gonna beat kasumi to a pulp like the way hayate did to tifa and there goes the ultimate showdown. cant wait. xD
Rinoa and Rachel's fight will probably debut next year for animeboston2010. I don't know if he's even started Dead Fantasy VI-VII, which would be Either Rachel vs. Rinoa or Kairi vs. ???. I just can't wait to see Rikku vs. Ayane, and I'm thinking Rikku's going to win. There was so much more thought and animation placed in Rikku than Ayane, with the dress sphere competition, and the lack of shine on her end in DF 1 and 2.
I really wish he'd disguise where he gets his fighters' moves from. Just like how Yuna pretending to be Lili was so distracting in DF2, Tifa ripping off C. Viper at 1:23 bugs the hell out of me. All that does is make me wish he'd touch on SF or Tekken.

Dude, tell me you weren't expecting FF to just steam roll DOA. Most Dead or Alive fans felt the same way about Monty after DF2.
Both Hitomi and Tifa looked impressive at times. Tifa was given more screen time, so of course she's going to have more memorable moments. I personally like it when Hitomi ripped the ground apart to protect herself though.
I hope Monty doesn't change it so that Tifa comes back to win. That, would be lame.

Well this was a pleasant surprise as even though Hitomi is at a clear disadvantage (no magic of any sort) she did well. I like that part as well...too bad the vid skipped to where she stole her materia. I like the balance...can't help to think tho Monty is gonna make FF come out at the end...

I don't think it was completely blinding as much as it was impairing. She could still see, just not as well. I'm a Hitomi fan, so regardless if she was the 'underdog' or not, I'd be cheering for her.
And for the record, I don't play the volleyball games. I think it's nice that Hitomi was able to beat Tifa. A one sided affair would not have been fun for anyone in my opinion.

I most agree with you, I was fairly if not greatly disappointed that he did not bring in more of the women of both franchises. I was highly disappointed as he brought in men from both series. For the DOA side he could have easily brought in Christie or even Helena to accomplish what Hayate did. Same goes for the Final Fantasy franchise they could have brought in a plethora of different girls, such as Yuffie, Lulu, even Aerith! So I am greatly disappointed for that fact.
You never know. There might actually be more girl characters coming in. Remember that there's a fight with each set of people. Kairi's by herself maybe she brings reinforcements. (:< Mouty Oum is too amazing. Don't underestimate him. :D
Actually, he IS going to add at least one more DoA girl. On his website, the character roster still has one "?" on the DoA side, and on his DA account he ran a poll on which DF the fans would want to see next. One of the choices was "Kairi vs. ???".
His most likely choice is Momiji from NG:DS and NG:S2, imo.
Actually, the text was a conversation between Yuna and Cloud. The biggest clue was when she said "because...you remind me of someone...". Cloud has spiky, blonde hair like Tidus. Also, when she said "because...I trust her.", Yuna was talking about Tifa.
Even if Kairi went to DoA's side, there would stiil be an imbalance.

The theme here was battling against the odds.
In the first part of DFIII, Hitomi is at a disadvantage, then in the second part Tifa is at a disadvantage. In both cases they excel.
Hitomi being able to fight blind fits with her character, she's extremely focused and is always pushing herself beyond her limits.
I suspect there is a twist to DFIII, it would not surprise me if Hitomi came to Tifa's rescue.

How do you know for a fact that Kasumi will lose to Cloud? You saw more footage than what we have seen in TeeKayN's vids?
Remember that, if you're basing this upon character backgrounds, Kasumi was to be the 18th Master of the Mugen Tenshin style (something that Hayate can not be), and is, generally, always holding herself back. She's not exactly going to be a pushover for anyone, although she tries to *match* them.

Actually, I'm gonna agree with xuxstreets, with things like this, there's always a little bit of formula. Now, formula isn't really a bad thing, unless it hinders originality, which clearly isn't the case with Monty Oum.
Kasumi definitely isn't a pushover, but neither was Tifa. With Yuna clearly tired from summoning, Cloud is going to take over the same way Hayate did. This is just speculation, but I though I'd just explain my reasoning. Sorry for interjecting myself into the conversation. <.<

Hayate's team beats Tifa, who is really close to Cloud.
I could see something happening.
Also, those Kasumi clones aren't on Kasumi's side. You see them fighting one another for a split second after Ifrit's intro.

Yes the footage is incomplete, but if all goes well Monty will show the complete version in july. Orginally he was going to show only DF3 at this convention, but due to him being busy, he didn't complete it. So he made a presentable version for the show and decided to show the full version at the Anime Expo in july.

i was just thinking, cloud is related to tifa, hayate is the brother of kasumi if im not mistaken. and in the preview of yuna-kasumi fight, cloud appears. so maybe, cloud is gonna beat kasumi to a pulp like the way hayate did to tifa and there goes the ultimate showdown. cant wait. xD

Rinoa and Rachel's fight will probably debut next year for animeboston2010. I don't know if he's even started Dead Fantasy VI-VII, which would be Either Rachel vs. Rinoa or Kairi vs. ???. I just can't wait to see Rikku vs. Ayane, and I'm thinking Rikku's going to win. There was so much more thought and animation placed in Rikku than Ayane, with the dress sphere competition, and the lack of shine on her end in DF 1 and 2.

I really wish he'd disguise where he gets his fighters' moves from. Just like how Yuna pretending to be Lili was so distracting in DF2, Tifa ripping off C. Viper at 1:23 bugs the hell out of me. All that does is make me wish he'd touch on SF or Tekken.

Dude, tell me you weren't expecting FF to just steam roll DOA. Most Dead or Alive fans felt the same way about Monty after DF2.
Both Hitomi and Tifa looked impressive at times. Tifa was given more screen time, so of course she's going to have more memorable moments. I personally like it when Hitomi ripped the ground apart to protect herself though.
I hope Monty doesn't change it so that Tifa comes back to win. That, would be lame.

lol rooting for the DOA side I thought they got their a** handed to them after DF2. Sadly I was expecting their ownage to continue thru to the individual battles (ahaha not much faith in DOA huh?)
Well this was a pleasant surprise as even though Hitomi is at a clear disadvantage (no magic of any sort) she did well. I like that part as well...too bad the vid skipped to where she stole her materia. I like the balance...can't help to think tho Monty is gonna make FF come out at the end...

I don't think it was completely blinding as much as it was impairing. She could still see, just not as well. I'm a Hitomi fan, so regardless if she was the 'underdog' or not, I'd be cheering for her.
And for the record, I don't play the volleyball games. I think it's nice that Hitomi was able to beat Tifa. A one sided affair would not have been fun for anyone in my opinion.

I most agree with you, I was fairly if not greatly disappointed that he did not bring in more of the women of both franchises. I was highly disappointed as he brought in men from both series. For the DOA side he could have easily brought in Christie or even Helena to accomplish what Hayate did. Same goes for the Final Fantasy franchise they could have brought in a plethora of different girls, such as Yuffie, Lulu, even Aerith! So I am greatly disappointed for that fact.

Actually, he IS going to add at least one more DoA girl. On his website, the character roster still has one "?" on the DoA side, and on his DA account he ran a poll on which DF the fans would want to see next. One of the choices was "Kairi vs. ???".
His most likely choice is Momiji from NG:DS and NG:S2, imo.

Actually, the text was a conversation between Yuna and Cloud. The biggest clue was when she said "because...you remind me of someone...". Cloud has spiky, blonde hair like Tidus. Also, when she said "because...I trust her.", Yuna was talking about Tifa.
Even if Kairi went to DoA's side, there would stiil be an imbalance.

Ok first of all get over it. It's Monty's video how would you know he gave a push for DOA? Honestly I am a huge Hitomi fan and when I saw this I was ecstatic. I thought in my honest opinion that it was completely unnecessary for Hayate to have come out, as well as for Cloud, because this should be the women fight not the men of the franchise the women!
