@colganmj - Of course I have checked out the Yuu website. That's what computers are for. If you want to buy a Yuu flute for me, that is your choice. 37 million Americans go to bed hungry and malnourished. I am 5'9" (male) and weigh 113 lbs, not to be fashionable.
One of Mr. Koga's students lives a few blocks from me. He is rich and has many fine shakuhachi. He can play shakuhachi very well. I am poor. I made a shakuhachi that is very difficult to play. Ron, the rich guy, cannot play my shakuhachi, though he has tried. I sweat blood for one good note.
@bamboosa Have you looked into a Shakuhachi Yuu? They're about 170. I just got one and like it very much. I have never played a real madake flute so I cannot compare to an expensive one.
@colganmj a real root end bamboo makes all the difference in terms of the tone the shakuhachi presents. I have a 2.4 shakuhachi made by jon kypros. its absolutely wonderful for honkyoku. you dont need to spend a TON of money, however 200-400 dollars is an adequate amount of money to spend on a hocciku flute. if you want a concert piece with a laquered bore, its probablyg going to cost an arm and a leg. My flute is definitely not concert worthy, but it sounds great live and recorded :D
@bamboosa absolutely no reason to sweat blood, 'sissorfite studio' in e-bay, pretty good flutes, root end, madake usw., from 30$ . I have 5 of his, all play well in al least 2 octaves....
Peace Music.....!!!
