@scottjk1995 Because if the first thing this song brings to your mind is killing your parents , you have either not matured enough or are 10 year old .
@az0r22 erm if you look at the front cover of 'Goo' (the album which contains this song) you'll see a drawing and beside that drawing are some words. amongst the words there is a line which reads "in a week we killed out parents and hit the road". i think you need to mature if you think displaying your naivety and using 'lol' is acceptable, don't assume and know your musical facts next time please.
@scottjk1995 This has nothing to do with musical facts . The saying u referred to was completely ironic and it had nothing to do with the essence of the music itself . It was like an ironic statement towards the conservative twats who considered their music to be nothing but rebellious teenagers without reason . The reason I said you are immature is not because I haven't read that fucking line , but because you don't seem to get it
@az0r22 How yould you know if i don't seem to get the line? When I came across the video i was hardlys going to delve into the soicio-political context of the early 90s was i? I was just making a little pop culture reference. You need to find something better to do with your time rather than bringing up a comment i made over 8 months ago.
@scottjk1995 And what the fuck is that about lol being acceptable ? I 'll use whatever internet acronym I feel like .What the fuck does acceptable even mean in that sentence acceptable to who ? To you ? Fuck if I care what you find acceptable , I was getting wasted to sonic youth before you were even fucking born .
@az0r22 Also judging by the fact that you were 'getting wasted to sonic youth' before i was born makes you about 40 years old in which case i think you need to get a life rather than causing arguments on a youtube video
@scottjk1995 I have a life as well as the need to answer back to people telling me I am naive and that I don't know my musical facts . You are the one who should go out more and focus on his life as you are still young and you got a lot to do .
@az0r22 don't patronise me please. I'm probablys the same as you, i hate posers who don't really understand what they're listening to so don't have a go at me for not explaining my comment
When Endless, Nameless started playing on my Nevermind CD, it startled me. When I was listening to Mildred Pierce on my Goo CD, it scared the shit out of me, and it's not even a secret track. Sonic Youth > Nirvana to an extreme degree.
That song is one of those that shouldn't end...well,at least it should be like 7 to 9 minutes long, right?i know this song for 20 years now and everytime i listen to it,i have to hit replay over and over again...
well, it is 7 to 9 minutes long ! On the Goo reissue, there's a 8:52 long version of Mildred Pierce (called Blowjob on the bonus disk), and yes it's awsome :)
i want the evol/sister/daydream nation era again. i mean what they're doing now is sweet, don't get me wrong but nothing they're doing now gives me that shit my pants this is amazing like when i first heard daydream nation. i swear that record made me rethink music
completely agree, sweet is the word. but i guess kim was right when she said: its just obvious that we´ll never have again the energy we had back there.
thats just life i guess. luckily enough, we´ñve got those records!!! ^o^
i wish they would come back to the Goo/Evol/Sister sound....thurston lamented in an interview that he would never be able to write traditional songs or play guitar traditionally, and now....that's what he's doing...bring back the noise!!!!
I remember the first time I heard Subway Song. It was about two in the morning, and I'm lying in bed with my headphones in and then suddenly OH MY FUCK I'M GONNA DIE
cool bands every weekend, met michael stipe at Target (where I worked). Sold him a walkman once. Was a really cool place to be in the mid 90's. Grunge and alternative were getting a foothold. Musical presence was strong there. I miss it.
This song has always provoked many theories as to what SY are trying to convey. Sometimes I imagine that they're channeling Ms. Crawford's inner turmoil and pain (from beyond the grave, perhaps?)that she so brilliantly used in her portrayal of Mildred Pierce. This tune is equal parts haunting and headbanging, a rare feat that can only be accomplished by the genius of bands like Sonic Youth.
loved it, except for the end- Joan Crawford was always calm and cool and collected, don't confuse her with Faye Dunaway who acts the exact same in every role she plays.
