  • Mildred Pierce

  • I had to cry.

  • One of the best bands i ever saw live; a different guitar tuning for each rocking song. They still send me on the edge of a precipse

  • Dull

  • this makes me want to kill my parents and hit the road

  • @scottjk1995 Don't do it.

  • @scottjk1995 Fuck my previous comment. Just realised you were hinting at the album cover.

  • @scottjk1995 lol what are you 10 years old ?

  • @az0r22 how would my comment make you think i was 10 years old?

  • @scottjk1995 Because if the first thing this song brings to your mind is killing your parents , you have either not matured enough or are 10 year old .

  • @az0r22 erm if you look at the front cover of 'Goo' (the album which contains this song) you'll see a drawing and beside that drawing are some words. amongst the words there is a line which reads "in a week we killed out parents and hit the road". i think you need to mature if you think displaying your naivety and using 'lol' is acceptable, don't assume and know your musical facts next time please.

  • @scottjk1995 This has nothing to do with musical facts . The saying u referred to was completely ironic and it had nothing to do with the essence of the music itself . It was like an ironic statement towards the conservative twats who considered their music to be nothing but rebellious teenagers without reason . The reason I said you are immature is not because I haven't read that fucking line , but because you don't seem to get it

  • @az0r22 How yould you know if i don't seem to get the line? When I came across the video i was hardlys going to delve into the soicio-political context of the early 90s was i? I was just making a little pop culture reference. You need to find something better to do with your time rather than bringing up a comment i made over 8 months ago.

  • @scottjk1995 And what the fuck is that about lol being acceptable ? I 'll use whatever internet acronym I feel like .What the fuck does acceptable even mean in that sentence acceptable to who ? To you ? Fuck if I care what you find acceptable , I was getting wasted to sonic youth before you were even fucking born .

  • @az0r22 Also judging by the fact that you were 'getting wasted to sonic youth' before i was born makes you about 40 years old in which case i think you need to get a life rather than causing arguments on a youtube video

  • @scottjk1995 I have a life as well as the need to answer back to people telling me I am naive and that I don't know my musical facts . You are the one who should go out more and focus on his life as you are still young and you got a lot to do .

  • @az0r22 don't patronise me please. I'm probablys the same as you, i hate posers who don't really understand what they're listening to so don't have a go at me for not explaining my comment

  • @scottjk1995 allright

  • good

  • When Endless, Nameless started playing on my Nevermind CD, it startled me. When I was listening to Mildred Pierce on my Goo CD, it scared the shit out of me, and it's not even a secret track. Sonic Youth > Nirvana to an extreme degree.

  • NOISE ! <3

  • WTF is the Subway Song?

  • @mynameisedable An early (1979) The Cure song.

  • *Gasp*

Man that scares me every time! xD lol

it reminds me of the Metro in France

  • I WILL FOREVER PRAISE SONIC YOUTH!

  • golden 90 year!

  • As Juno put it "its just noise"

Except it makes you wanna u wanna jump up and down

  • this is that perfect blend of raw punk energy and musical badass-ery that made sonic youth great.

  • I love

  • They said this is one of the first tunes they ever wrote...and they held it back until Goo...

  • any reason sofia coppola is in this video?

  • @binrockin I think she directed it...she is friends with the band

  • If there was an Olympics for guitarists, Sonic Youth would win a Gold medal

  • @MountErrigal agreed

  • ptm!! muzica para tener zecuelaz, q geniaL!! :D!

  • Awesome bass.

  • That song is one of those that shouldn't end...well,at least it should be like 7 to 9 minutes long, right?i know this song for 20 years now and everytime i listen to it,i have to hit replay over and over again...

  • @tearsofallah

well, it is 7 to 9 minutes long ! On the Goo reissue, there's a 8:52 long version of Mildred Pierce (called Blowjob on the bonus disk), and yes it's awsome :)

  • El unico fusil que tocó la distorsión (desde que cantaba el Tico!)

  • this song reminds me of 'i trusted you' by andy kaufman

  • This video is the result of mixing LSD,MDMA & meth altogether.

  • SIMPLY ZAJEBISTOSC!

  • i want the evol/sister/daydream nation era again. i mean what they're doing now is sweet, don't get me wrong but nothing they're doing now gives me that shit my pants this is amazing like when i first heard daydream nation. i swear that record made me rethink music

  • completely agree, sweet is the word. but i guess kim was right when she said: its just obvious that we´ll never have again the energy we had back there.

thats just life i guess. luckily enough, we´ñve got those records!!! ^o^

  • @waxanimalparts

When I first heard it, I actually thought "How have I lived this long without knowing this?"

  • i wish they would come back to the Goo/Evol/Sister sound....thurston lamented in an interview that he would never be able to write traditional songs or play guitar traditionally, and now....that's what he's doing...bring back the noise!!!!

  • I really agree. That era was my favorite. Don't forget Daydream Nation!!

  • Brilliant!

Almost 20 years and this song still kicks ass

  • haha awesome song

  • fucking awesome

  • I love this song . .

  • When I first heard Thurston scream Mildred Pierce at the end I was listening to it at night and it scared the shit out of me.

  • @Swarm1000 Well, it actually isn't as scary as Subway Song.

  • @OnePieceSanjiRobin

I remember the first time I heard Subway Song. It was about two in the morning, and I'm lying in bed with my headphones in and then suddenly OH MY FUCK I'M GONNA DIE

  • daaamn I've only heard this great beginning.....already love it

  • take that bonnamasa fans

  • The Best!!

  • so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so damn good!

  • After I showed this to my little brother he told me he thinks Sonic Youth is from the devil. Whatever, he's 4 years old. I'd be creeped too. :)

  • well just convince him the devil isn't real

and that Kim Gordon is Goddess, then he'll be just fine

  • I could be wrong but i think there's Sophia Coppola in this video

  • Comment removed

  • I just saw this on my local college tv station. Awesome shit! I love this song, band, and album :D

  • Reminds me of Athens GA in college

  • wow! you lived there in college? Dude! What was that like?

  • cool bands every weekend, met michael stipe at Target (where I worked). Sold him a walkman once. Was a really cool place to be in the mid 90's. Grunge and alternative were getting a foothold. Musical presence was strong there. I miss it.

  • That is so awesome! I would've liked to live in Athens, Georgia at that time. That's really cool you met Michael Stipe.

  • My band used to cover this song back in the early 90's.

    Fucking awesome.

  • please rate!!!!! ;)

  • best freakout i've ever heard

  • this song is mostly the reason i bought the album!!!

  • Oh yeah

  • The mosh pit song!

  • that scared me a lot when i ear it for the first time...i wasnt preapred

  • me too

  • @JSEBCKGC i did the same but ist a cool song!!!

  • I LIKE THIS NOISY SOUND

  • fucking chills everytime i listen to it

  • totally...totally!

  • This song has always provoked many theories as to what SY are trying to convey. Sometimes I imagine that they're channeling Ms. Crawford's inner turmoil and pain (from beyond the grave, perhaps?)that she so brilliantly used in her portrayal of Mildred Pierce. This tune is equal parts haunting and headbanging, a rare feat that can only be accomplished by the genius of bands like Sonic Youth.

  • what a powerful song! really love it, i just cant listen to it without doing REW on this track again and again.

    MILDREEEEED PIEEEEEERCEEE WAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • I really wanna run through Manhattan listening to this song. . . an amazing song for an amazing place.

  • mildred go go go

  • the best song ever

  • loved it, except for the end- Joan Crawford was always calm and cool and collected, don't confuse her with Faye Dunaway who acts the exact same in every role she plays.

  • Ahh I love it, so fucking fierce.

  • I am a huge fan of Joan Crawford,Sonic Youth and the film Mildre Pierced (1945) so this is a treat for me.

  • Gotta love sonic youth :)

  • sofiiiia

  • Art!

  • I can't even tell how much I love this band. Sonic Youth rules!

  • i'm the hotpants chick on the trailer. thanks for posting this, i can't believe how young i look!

  • you worked it girl!!! ;)

  • Nice try.

  • what do you mean?

  • you look awsome :)

  • sofia coppola, ur shitting me. If it is, then this totally makes up for her in the godfather 3. This song kicks ass

  • YES, SHE IS SOFIA COPOLA

  • hmmm to beru pičo!

  • that's sofia coppola!

  • ... in Chanel!!

    total gag.

  • Probably the best punk song ever written.
