Reproduction causes mutations to occur and allows traits to be continued.

We have our parent's traits because their genes were passed down to us through reproduction. Siblings often look the same because their genes came from the same parents (common ancestry). Similarly, humans and primates are descended from a common ancestor and so they have a similar genetic makeup.
