  • Dude you dont need to shift so early its a 1000cc it does 90 in 3rd gear lol

  • @1488skinxhead1 Oh yeah, I know. It will do 100 in 1st. This was during the break in (pretty much just got the thing) so I was taking it a bit more easy.

  • @soap0688 Google "break in secrets"...Not saying you or anyone should do it that way or anything, just that you may find it an interesting read. After reading up on it myself this past week or so, i`ve decided i`m gonna do it that way when i get my new bike.

  • @CaptainTurkeyGiblets I've been told the best way to achieve peak HP from a new engine is to have it run in on a dyno. I am considering doing this for my next :)

  • shift without the clutch, its smoother

  • @f44life It can be, but I wasn't getting the RPMs up high enough during break in to smoothly to clutchless shifts. I've noticed they seem to stretch the chain a little quicker when done often, even if they're clean. I usually don't need to. Thanks for watching. Although I keep saying it, I really do aim to have track footage this season.

  • @soap0688 id rather stretch the chain a little then wear on the clutch...is this your first sportbike? ive had an 00f4 and a 07cbr1000rr...I just love the sound of the crossplane...but damn there alot more expensive then the regular inline 4...i guess i would have to ride one then i would be sold to spend a couple more grand

  • @f44life Third sportbike. 600RR, GSX-R750, then this. You should be able to find a new 09-11 year R1 for 10 grand or less brand new. I imagine there are some used ones in circulation now, also. I've done CSS on the S1000RR and it's a beast, but the crossplane is definitely more street-friendly. Ride one if you get a chance. I liked mine more and more as the miles piled on.

  • @soap0688 definately on the look out for one

  • r1 is not a scooter......................lol

  • i have 05 gsxr600... i sat on the 09 R1... i like the feel...

  • @LightningMAS Yes, they're pretty comfortable. I had a GSX-R750 before my R1. When I got back on and rode a GSX-R it felt cramped compared to the R1. Look at the CBR1000RR, too. I really need to edit and upload some of my recent footage...

  • @soap0688 yea.. i dont like hondas period.. Suzukis and yamahas. i had 03 GSXR 600, 05 GSXR 600, 06 GSXR 1000, .. right now, i have the 05 gsxr600, i love the handling and power on it..

  • does this bike vibrate badly through hands and feet? thats what i been hearing

  • @exup1k The bike doesn't have bad vibrations at all. They are a little more noticeable in the lower revs when taking off, but when cruising around it's fine. My last bike (K7 GSX-R750 with an Arrow pipe) vibrated more (though more of a constant "buzz").

  • sounds EXACTLY like the suzuki sv 650 v twin, kinda in two worlds about the sound really, sounds awesome accelerating but at low revs poodling around town sounds kinda shitty, nice bike tho bro, hows its going with the new mods ?

  • @shaunzor1

It sounds somewhat similar, yes. This was during break-in, so revs were kept lower. My other video had a slight bit more rev range usage. Mods are great. You'll get to hear its new sound in my next video...to be made when it stops snowing and whatnot.

  • break-in needs max revs, not low..

  • Well yes, but not frequently hit or maintained. The bike was still very new here, and I didn't start pushing it higher until at least a couple hundred miles, and then gradually increased as time went on.

  • I asked this in the other video, but is this road in pennslyvania? It looks pretty familiar.

  • @cbrdurox

Close. It's Maryland. A lot of backroads look similar I guess :)

  • @cbrdurox Where in Penn do you live? I ride any where form Bethlehem all the way up too Tunkannock, Wyalusing, Towanda and Bimington NY.

  • @yamasubaruger I used to be around Stroudsburg, but I now live in NJ, I still ride to PA every other weekend or so since the roads in NJ aren't nearly as fun. I used to ride around Smith Gap Rd (I think that is what it was called) near Bethlehem close to Blue Mountain.

  • @cbrdurox Yup Smith Gap is right, near KunkleTown (I grew up there) thats a nice area to ride. You should make a trip up around Wyalusing the roads are a little beat up becuase of the water trucks but there are ALMOST NO COPS so it's fucking fun. Were are you from originaly anyways?

  • @yamasubaruger I from Brodheadsville. Thanks for the tip about Wyalusing. It's kind of out the way for me all the from NJ but if I am up in PA for the weekend I'll definitely check it out. Definitely true about the cops, I like not worrying about them when I go up, hah in NJ/NY I have to run the route once just to try and spot where they're hiding before I go back and tear it up, it's ridiculous.

  • why do the new R1s sound so much different? its not bad but they have almost a ducati like sound now

  • @Airsoftsniper1994

The engine has a crossplane crankshaft and its firing order is uneven now. This creates a different sound than a standard i4. My next clip will have the sound from my exhaust system (Akrapovic) which sounds a good bit better than the stock...just waiting for some warmer weather.

  • No point in getting an R1if your gonna drive like a granny. Might as well have been on a 250cc there.

  • @fionnoc

Perhaps next time you will read the video description. I had less than 200 miles on the bike when this video was taken, only 1/5th of the break in done in other words. My other video I go a little faster, but even then some roads do not safely allow higher speeds due to the conditions of the road itself or its layout. In that video I was still more than doubling the limit most of the time. This one I was a bit more relaxed, as I had just gotten the damn thing.

  • common swap is to install an EU ecu into a NA bike. That'll give you back the 15 hp they pulled for emissions or whatever the heck the environmentalists are complaining about.

  • US versions have smaller eshaust and restricted computers. European and Canadian models don't. Noticeable faster stock . HAHA, we win....again.

  • You also have to pay out the ass for one. I don't have stock cans (or cat.) anymore it's been dyno'd with a PCV. HAHA? :p

  • good vid. a guy round here has just got one and i wondered what the hell it was, it sounded so exotic i thought it was a desmosedici or something! till i saw it. yamaha have really got it right; remember why the odd firing order is there. traction out of corners. I had a 916 for years, they have got this too but they are rough troublesome and expensive, here you have the smoothness and reliability of a jap 4 with the characteristics of a v twin and a fantastic sound !! whats not to like?

  • sport rider said it lacked topend and it was down 15hp then the rest of the liter pack. It looks badass and handles but the motor sounds meaner then it actually puts out.

  • @f44life

It does lack the top end found on the ZX-10R and Gixxer Thou (7-10 HP, not 15 lol). It's about dead even at peak HP with the CBR1000RR after both are tuned; the CBR is a little up on the U.S. R1 out of the box. One of the biggest reasons I stepped up to the 1000 class is for low and mid range power. I don't like having to ride at high RPM's to get going out of corners quickly. The engine has a lot of grunt. No complaints here.

  • plus if you watch the mcn litre bike shootout it lapped quicker than all the others too. all you have to do is ride one and you'll want it.

  • The EU version out of the box definitely has more power than the US one. My bike at the moment is making about the same as the tuned 08 1000RR's. I got to look at the dyno graphs at the shop after mine was tuned with the PCV. And yes it's still down about 8 HP from the ZX-10R and GSX-R1000 after they've been tuned. I don't really care, though. Those few extra top-end HP won't improve my ride. It handles amazingly well and flies out of corners. I'll be recording the track days :)

  • Euro bikes are nearly always up on power compared to the US spec bikes, mainly down to the tighter emission laws over in the US. Don't worry though even a few ponies down any thousand is still crap your pants fast. I have just purchased a new leftover 08 model and love my R1's on my 4th now. I love the sound of the 09 but i am still not sold on it's looks. Thanks for sharing.

  • regardelss of the lack of top end its still an amazing bike. yamaha has always run with the top dogs regards to technology and flat out know how when it comes to building a bike. ive gone nearly 200mph before...but thats not an everyday , no,,,not even an every month type situation. its the bottom end grunt thats needed on the road in the canyons and on the track. so love the bike for what it is. ...word

  • whats its top speed any 1?

  • I believe most publications measured the top speed as 180 mph.

  • Sounds great.

  • FUCK that does not sound like a incline 4cyl anymore...

gotta love the crossplane crank =D

  • Yeah, it's a different sound from my other bikes. It definitely is grin-inducing.

  • i have an fs100. when i put videos on my computer they are in MOD format. how can i cut videos down to 10min or less so i can upload on youtube?

  • Under Windows, you may very well be able to rename the files to a working format. You could then use software like Windows Movie Maker to cut the time down. I searched for "fs100 mod files" in Google, and the first result was another YouTube video with instructions on renaming the MOD files (you will need to make file extensions visible).

  • you know. the bikes these days are able to shift higher than 4k rpm's....especially yamahas

  • Read the video description. Early break in period.

  • i love this bike i like the sound:D

  • You always roll around with your bright lights on?

  • During the day, yes. I flip them off at night when cars are around.

  • almost sounds like a vette i love it

  • midrange torque = shitty underwear

  • Short edit? .... give a long edit please! I love the sound of that machine. I debating on stepping up to the 09' R1 or going with a cheaper new 08' gixxer 1000. So many tough choices in life;) Thanks for sharing!

  • thank you for sharing ;)

  • Great bike! Hope to have mine in the not too distant future? Heard and read nothing but rave reviews on this R1 so can't wait!

  • what rpm do u keep it under? and for how long for a good run in period?

  • @dudeball2002

0-600 miles is to keep it at or under 6,900 RPM. 600-1000 miles the limit for sustained riding is 8,300 RPM. I think in the video I don't go over 6 grand (it has about 400 miles at the moment)...and I didn't really even push it much even within the break-in limits. I will be putting up track footage in the future :)

  • arghhh,it's a shame usa bikes got less power than our euro model, you should feel what this bike is able to do when full power!

  • @triplex

I know what you mean in a way...but losing 6 HP really is not that much when you have 176 (or so) left. At the very least I'll be putting non-homologated slipons to bring out some of the wonderful sound :)

    Thanks for watching.

  • frustrating running it in init, short shifting etc, won't be long and then you can stretch it's legs

  • How does this bike feel on the road? I went and sat on it the other day, and it was noticeably bigger than the previous R1.

  • @Olaboy808

My last bike was a K7 GSX-R750, and this bike handles better. Its power delivery is awesome. I've only sat on previous gen R1s (and any liter bike for that matter...this is my first). Most 1000s feel "big" to me, too, when compared to middleweights. Luckily this thing doesn't feel big while it's being ridden.

  • That is a nice catch. Thanks for posting. Good framerate
