  • gay brothers all oiled up

  • @descending1 well said. long live the originators , all those unsung funk heroes.

  • Funk is a feelin' and no band in 70's understood this betta' than the BarKays.

  • Yep, .....I don't know about you, but I can hear the message in this song loud and clear, like a bell ringing all the way across the entire universe.

    Are_you_dancing ? I am.

  • BELL BOTTOMS PANTS, PLATFORM SHOES, AFRO HAIR, FUNKY GROOVE BEAT LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY!!!!

  • image going to a concert and on the bill was

    james brown

    bar kays

    cameo

    slave

    brass construction

you would have to see the doctor for symptoms of funkyratis lol

  • @icon200 5 years ago I saw:

    Cameo

    Ohio Players

    SOS Band

    Morris Day and the Time

    and Mc Hammer!

All at the same concert. Oh lawdy what day that was.

  • @MrVeesworld

    wow..some line up

until we get to mc hammer...

he must have been a wild card lol

  • Oh yes!! :)

  • Roots or Funk Music?

  • Work this sucka to DEATH!

  • lmao either that's a classic funk album cover or the most intimidating welcome reception to a state penitentiary

  • I brought this record to my 3rd grade music class back in the day.

  • Think they have enough baby oil on them? Kinda cool song but the cover would make me not want to buy the thing. I'm just saying... kinda gay.

  • I was 14 me and this super fine chick won a dance contest...

  • The 70's and AM radio didn't get no better . WLS Chicago was my fav late nite station , or WLAC Nashville but it had to be late before the good AM stattions could be heard.

  • @vann1138 Unfortunately, this jam DIDN'T get played on WLS, the Big 89.

  • yeah!!!!!!!

  • This song debuted on American Top 40 on 12/4/76 and made it to #23 in 8 weeks. Casey Kasum usually does not lie. It was a contemporary with I Wish, Dazz, Car Wash, Keep me Crying, Walk this Way, Blinded by the Light, Enjoy Yourself, You Don't Have to be a Star. Bring back memories all you middle aged people???

  • They look like slaves in the pic...LMAO.

  • @Avdallabill that's because it was symbolic of them being "slaves" to the funk.. LOL

  • Does anybody notice the fun has gone out of music today? The Bar-Kays kick some serious ass.

  • ahhhhhhhhh the 70'ssssssssss KGJF

  • Gayest album cover ever, but what an excellent song!

  • I SAW THESE GUYS AT A CLUB CALLED FAMILY AFFAIR IN MEMPHIS 1976. RUFUS AND CHAKA KAHN WERE ALSO THERE. A GREAT NIGHT I WILL NEVER FORGET. THEY WERE BAD TO THE BONE. SUPER FUNK BAND.

  • very cool

  • 4-da-IGNORANT SUCKA'S OUT THERE, THIS IS THE MIGHTY MIGHTY SOUND OF THE BAR-KAYS!!! FOOLS THIS IS NOT DISCO!!! I SAY AGAIN THIS IS NOT DISCO!!! IT IS PURE RIGHTEOUS FUNK!!! DUMB DUMB!!! ALL KINDS OF FOLKS PLAYED disco, very few BANDS PLAYED FUNK, & THE BAR-KAYS WERE 1 OF EM!!! HERE ARE 9, just 2 educate da few who think they knew!!! 1-PARLIAMENT 2-FUNKADELIC 3-BOOTSY'S RUBBER BAND 4-CAMEO 5-CON FUNK SHUN 6-SLAVE 7-BRASS CONSTRUCTION 8-BLACKBYRDS 9-MANDRILL & DA LIST COULD GO ON 70'S FUNK SON!!!

  • I get what they were going for, but in 2011 that album sleeve just looks like gay porn.

  • @4gnrations07 Hey ,like me. I am 48

  • I AM THE FASTEST PIMP IN THE MO FUCKING WEST, FUNKY FRESH AND PIMPALISHUS

  • only problem with barkays is that they had no problem copying other peoples stuff.

I hate that. but they were good when they wanted to be.

  • oiled up black guys?.... great pic.... . . .

  • Okay, so I know I was not alive when this was released, but to me, it's not funk. You can hear the elements of Disco all over this track, and I definitely do not believe that funk is black (heard of the Average White Band, Motown records? War was even a mixed band) and that Disco is white (almost every major funk band that continued to record after 79 or 80 had to make the switch to Disco, if selling records was a priority. This is Disco/Funk, to me, REAL funk is Cymande, War, bands like that.

  • Man you got love those 70's album covers....Lol.

  • Funk was black, disco was white. And we all loved them both. Kids have no clue what they're missing.

  • Comment removed

  • I first heard this in early 77, cos the guy i was seeing at the time had it in his record collection, so i agree it was first released in 76.

  • Love this song

  • ok...@dantoine93...sometimes it depends on where you live...I did not hear it until 80 or 81....here in St.Louis.... I live for music and know it very well...it was not here in 76

  • that cover look so gay lol

  • I cant believe I once had this album. Thanks for posting.

  • best torture music ever

  • Shake Your Rump Back to the Funk

...........The Funk Back to the Punk.....sounds very similar.

  • Love this song.

  • I love the bassline.Of course,I am a bass player

  • Skin Tight (OP) + Shining Star (EWF) = Shake Your Rump..but this is STILL the jam!!!

  • wicked funky!!

  • ps: their biggest crime was they stole too many riffs..but was always tight on the one.

  • @unique74muzik They sho was TIGHT ON DA 1!!!!

  • @unique74muzik You realized that, too? Funny thing is, the music was still hot!

  • @unique74muzik THEY WERE SESSION MUSICIANS FIRST. PROBABLY THEIR OWN LICKS!

  • got cha back dawg..im an AUTHORITY on the FUNK so I had to cover you..you got some bad jams..Bar Kays truly never got their full credit they deserved. Allen Jones was beyond a great producer.

  • it was 76.."i'll Dance"/"Move Your Boogie Body" was their last of their 70's hits..78' was "Holy Ghost"...

  • i told her atleast someone else knows something about real music ha

  • @unique74muzik I first heard this in early 77, cos the guy i was seeing at the time had it in his record collection, so i agree it was first released in 76.

  • @Musiclover12371 . shame you dont have the same decency and respect for the guy who has done nothing to you in real life, nor his mum who you refer to as an alcoholic, you are a bitter old crone. how would you like us to post your details. guess there is someone who might. and NO she never wished cancer on your family, you evil woman. live it it. A lot of people have seen your you tube comments, and you will be reported.
