  • he actually doenst say 9815L the tower does..........the guy lost it completely

  • its niner five one lima N915L bad experience for the poor guy...........thats why pilots should have a minimal ifr training while studying to be a private pilot.......

  • just calm down bro

  • What a dick !!!

  • Sounds like my first solo flight.

  • what is IFR?

  • @rockstarr469 Instrument Flight Rules. The term used should have been IMC. Instrument Meteorological Conditions. i.e in cloud or at night.

  • Without wanting to take the pilot's defense here, we have absolutely no idea of what weather was like around his aircraft at that time. For all we know it could've been layer clouds or even worse convective clouds, resulting in updrafts, downdrafts, turbulence and etc. Lack of experience & IFR skills = hysterical reaction. Most of the time sunday pilots don't fly alone e.g.kids & wife on board. This said, totally irrational to fly back on the same day. Thumbs up for the FSS!

  • Most importantly, the pilot remained cool, calm and collected.

  • i wouldnt like to go on the plane with this pilot

  • First to all those that think this recording was fake, it wasn't. I was the Flight service specialist who answered the pilots intial Mayday call. The person who told the pilot to release the stick was a supervisor who unlike me, spent hundreds of hours flying and knew exactly what instruction he was giving the pilot. The phone call afterwards, where the pilot was thanking my supervisor for saving his life........that was less than an hour after he got safely on the ground.

  • jezus what is that guy doing in an aeroplane???

    friggin cowboy

  • Rule one he shouldn't have put himself in that to begin with without basic Instrument skills. Rule two he flipped out and that definately don't help. Rule three is to WATCH YOUR AIRSPEED to avoid stalls no matter what the attitude feels like. Extreme Spacial Disorientation can kill you. Chances are you were not rolling. Using the radio saved his ass believe me. I bet he doesn't pull that shit ever again. Another thing is that any Instructor worth their salt will actually put a student into that

  • what a fucking dumbass this guy needs to grow some fucking nuts and stop screamin like a bitch he was never rollin shit maybe a joint filled wit acid what a little bitch

  • awesome ATC

  • IM SO SICK OF THIS DAMN RECORDING. YOU ARE THE 200TH PERSON TO FUCKING UPLOAD THIS SHIT.

    facts on this: It's real

It also sounds extremely unprofessional and the way this pilot reacted to this on the radio seemed so weird that it does sound fake

  • Funny that people would say it's fake, I've seen plenty of violent films and TV with people getting killed left and right and not one of them genuinely sounded in fear for their life like this guy does. That's either a man who thinks he's about to die or an actor faking it who seriously needs to get hired for a major movie...

  • This seems fake, I don't believe this. Especially the talk-show like phone interview afterward. Someone just wants some ad money... like half of what's on YouTube

  • aw you fuckin retards its not fake dipshits

  • WTF ITS FUCKING FAKE

  • this is a complete fake, first you can't call a mayday because you are inside of 1 cloud and you are not rated. second a private pilot gets intrument training 3 hours exactly. so if you are in a cloud you can tell if you are rolling or not (a roll may break a c-172 if is not in the acrobatic category) if you are a ppl you will lose your rating, if you are a student pilot your instructor would have huge problems. that means the atc wont be laughing whit you about your roll at the end. FAKE

  • @mariodela You think it really matters what you "can" do when you are spinning out of control and think you're about to die? The guy was scared shitless, and he sure as hell called a mayday.

  • Sometimes you can train to prepare for the worst.. But sometimes when the "worst" comes.. You just panic and that's it

  • @NickLovesPopcorn

bullshit , he's not Instr rated

  • @rev4life03 first off I got my PPL in an airplane without the G1000. Secondly, why would fling a diamond star make me clueless about what's professional? Why are you attacking me? I just posted my opinion. You have to admit there are like 5 duplicates of this video, and you have to admit its hard to find a real atc recording of a pilot sounding less professional. When I said I was a genius compared to you I was acting defensively. If I could have a chance to prove it though, I'd love to. Jerk.

  • the guy sounds like tom cruise

  • im sick of this overplayed clip. it sounds embarrassing and unprofessional also. its all over youtube and its annoying

  • Comment removed

  • @rev4life03 compared to you i'm a genius so you can't really call me an idiot buddy.

  • Learning to fly instrument is so important. It's underrated by confident VFR pilots far to much. IFR is never easy and requires a lot of concentration.

  • Hell, This is a good wake up call to all us VFR by day pilots out there.

Sounds as scary as hell, I just failed a CPL flight test mainly because my instrument flying wasn't to standard. And was quite rightly failed.

This is a situation where your skills have to be spot on, because you only get one shot at it in real life.

Going up again with my instructor in the next few days to work on it.

    Thanks for the upload Houie.

  • nice atc conversation :D

  • poor guy :-) ....glad he made it .

  • ops...from the pilot....lol..at last was smart to remember how to fly...lol...

  • lol...when the airplane is ahead of pilot....

  • haha you cant tell me that its not funny

  • talking to a guy at aurora? KARR? That's where I'm based at. hhahha how did I not hear of this?

  • For those of you saying he was going overboard. Flying in Imc is no joke and when you fly in it unprepared you will be just as scared, so, unless you have an instrument rating and have experienced imc, don't talk.

  • Great job ATC. However, the pilots reaction was way overboard and he has no business flying until he gets some basic instrument skills.

  • @pilotoenrique Compare how cool and composed Capt. Sullenberger who landed in the Hudson was in his ATC recordings.

  • @pilotoenrique Agree, ridiculous level of panic, be a man not a little girl. "help! help!" Didn't you learn anything in flight training? Oh yeah, basic stall and spin recovery.

  • @malamagr I dislike know it all`s.

  • is that Chuck Yager up there? He's sharp!

  • Russian subtitles, please

  • great job ATC my hat off to you guys!!!!

  • Scary stuff, glad he was ok.

  • yea um... BULLSHIT!!! LOL!!!

  • Howcome ATC is giving him instructions to push forward on the stick and then back if they dont know what exactly is happening and what his planes attitude is? I dont like the guys idea of going back in the air the same day, he might not be performing 100 %, just call it a day and come back another day.

  • @crockett616 because when your in a spin, you have to unstall the wings (by pushing forward), then pull back.

  • @crockett616 The situation was a classic graveyard spiral. An uncontrolled rolling in cloud means either a spin or a spiral. Either way, releasing back-pressure will solve it and allow the aircraft to regain control.

  • @crockett616 They guy was screaming for help, he's completely lost rational thought I thought the controller did well. Good advice I thought......

  • @crockett616 FSS is not ATC

  • @crockett616 Pushing (slightly) forward on the stick is the best action when out of control. Usually the "out of control" situation is because of over-controlling the aircraft. ATC was helping him get back into control - apparently it worked.

  • is this for real?

  • WTF this guy shouldn't be flying.

  • whats IFR? O.o

  • @njgamer19 Instrument Flight Rules - when a pilot is relying on his cockpit instruments to tell him where he is, where he's going, how high he is, etc. From the sounds of it, and from the description, it sounds as though he was completely enveloped in cloud coverage, so he couldnt make anything out visually. The opposite of IFR is VFR, which would be visual flight rules.

  • Part of my VFR training was learning procedures for inadvertent flight into IMC & recovery from upset attitudes under the hood. Rely on flight instruments, standard rate of turn 180 degrees, cruise throttle, keep airspeed in the green arc, then straight & level until you get back out of it. Time under the hood is time well spent. And, just my personal opinion, I've actually found computer flight simulators useful in honing my instrument skills as a VFR pilot. Your mileage may vary.

  • Did this pilot check his shorts when he got back down?

  • Gotta watch those IFR conditions... they sneak up on you sometimes. Apparently.

  • It sounds like he accidentally got himself into IFR flight conditions and accidentally got into a spin. And since he was in IFR, he had no idea what was going on. I can imagine this would be very scary. Very smart of the pilot to immediately declare an emergency.

  • I can understand the yelling. Inappropriate, but he thought he was saying his last words. Spatial disorientation is no joke, and VFR into IMC is a contributing factor to many aircraft fatalities. This is one of the reasons that private pilot training includes some basic instrument training under the hood, so if you enter clouds you can hopefully not panic, turn around or descend using instruments, and continue on a little wiser. Kudos to the FSS for, if nothing else, calming this pilot down.

  • That could have been a tragedy. Sudden transition from VFR to IFR. Always a bitch. Especially when you are NVFR and it's unexpected. Only the UK, United States, Canada, Sweden and Germany allow NVFR. You are not a "Pilot" until you are qualified and competent in 2 areas #1- Instruments (IFR) #2- Partial Panel training. (for when the Instruments go south). Study the death of John Kennedy Jr. That was a simple case in point. The NTSB reports that Mr. Kennedy lost control after only 2 minutes.
  • At first I thought it was a joke.

  • It's easy to judge him but even major airline pilots have forgotten the basics when the plane gets into an unusual area of the flight envelope and they've lost situational awareness. Aeroflot Flight 593 for example... all they needed to do was turn the autopilot off and let go of the yoke, instead they manhandled the plane right into the ground.

  • "I'll be darned."

  • YEAH ITS REALLY A "MAY"DAY

  • Scary stuff, spatial disorientation is not funny though, glad that guy made it.

  • Sounds like Tom Cruise.

  • This guy sounds exactly like Frank Burns from M*A*S*H!

  • ok..this guy needed to calm down. pilots arnt suppossed to shout at ATC! and one May day call clears it up...i dont know how many times he said that!

  • @ashrazor911 get real man, if you were in a spin at the ground in ifr conditions and not know how to get s&l you would scream too!!!!

  • @TheWhiteOwl23 i havent heard any pilot yelling like this.....i will definitely be upset if I get lost in the skies in IFR conditions but geez wudnt yell at the atc like this

  • @ashrazor911 easy to say when you're not in the plane.

  • what is IFR conditions?

  • @peuterschmidt when you have to fly using the instruments, so if you are in cloud or at night

  • @TheWhiteOwl23 oh ok thanks

  • Scary. I hate people who laugh at these videos, but does anybody else think he sounds a little like Peter Griffin?

  • I haven't heard a grown man yell mayday so many times in a row... :/

  • I am going to crash i am going to crash. If that was me on the other end i would tell him enjoy it hahahahaha

  • @001looker good thing it wasn't you on the other end then huh asshole. world be a better place w/o you and yours.

  • 3 words come to mind, 'Aviate, Navigate, Communicate' next time he will not be so lucky

  • He needs to take is FAA test again.. but this reflects the FAA PPL system.. Not enough training, not enough knowledge.. Ive got both JAA and FAA, and I can honestly sit here and right this, my FAA medical, my FAA written and my FAA checkride were alot easier than the JAA system... Agree? Maybe not.. Just my opnion..

Btw how do you enter IMC when VFR? At night ok maybe, it can be a little tricky, but in the morning? Piss poor planing, Piss poor flying.. Period.. (MY OPNION PEOPLE CALM DOWN)

  • @privatepilot07 He foggot the 7 P's...

Proper Prior Preperation Prevents Piss Poor Performance :D

  • If I was that guy I'd go the next day to a flight school and start working in an intrument raiting.

  • Unbelievable.... at the beginning I thought that this was a joke!! This dude is in a roll/spin in IFR and still clicks the mike button to yell mayday?? And then he wants a wx briefing that same day for another flight. No, he should not be flying. Some screw is loose somewhere...

  • 7700 is the mayday sqwark code

  • what happened?

  • @krabby4000 He flew into IFR conditions, meaning he can't se anything... Maybe he was inside a big cloud, unable to identify his position and orientation.

The controller made an awesome work!

  • Oh man what a nightmare.

    Terrified and vfr into ifr.

Sounds like he learned a valuable lesson.

Also big balls to call back and apologise.

    Wow.

  • not competent to be in the air.

  • I have no Idea why the pilot called mayday nimerious times after the fact he had already established communications with an agency.

  • @cmritchie04 Because he was terrified.

  • I really thought this was a fake at first, as a VMC only pilot, for now, I have never put myself in an IMC postition. I hope this guy learned his lesson.

  • I heard this the 1st time when they made the clip to oppose Lockheed's takeover of FSS. I had always trusted them & even though they had my support, I had no idea what was being forced on us by Lockheed. I miss the days when I'd plan a cross country & then call in to check if I missed anything, these guys were always that good. I have only called once since Lockheed took over, and it was one call too many.

  • I am sorry for all those people who lost their jobs, people who were highly professional, at the top of their work. Its a huge loss. I miss those days, I am sorry for them and I am sorry for pilots. Lost for words!!

  • Thank god for you ATC guys and girls. As the pilot said -you are saints.I have never flown as pilot in command in the USA but I have been flying Cessnas and Pipers down here in Australia since my first solo flight at the age of 16 in 1968. Thankfully have never had to declare a May Day -but have had a couple of urgency phases with a Pan Pan Pan. The one thing you can be sure of is that the folks at ATC will move heaven and earth to get you down safely. And they will do it in a very calm manner

  • My heart was pounding for that 1st minute.

  • omg!!!

  • jesus fucking christ...that guy was so close to getting killed. good job by him and the controllers for getting his ass out of trouble.

  • As a pilot, I think it was big of this pilot to apologize for yelling on the radio at first... not everyone thinks of that.

However, after his mention of a tower passing to his left, helping him identify up/down, I realize he is extremely lucky.

For his ability to jump back in the same plane later that day...wow. A good pilot was made a true pilot on this day.

  • @flyindart A 'good pilot' who inadvertently flew into IFR, lost control, and lost his head? What would you consider a 'bad' pilot to be?

  • @pressclick A 'bad' pilot would have wrote off his life.

  • as an air traffic controller....

    this is fkn classic!

    N9815L

    I love you brother!

  • Sorry I mentioned that it was adverse yaw I meant P factor on the plane and and drag on the aileron that has been applied. in turn turning the plane in a spin, or it could have been he applied rudder very fast putting the plane in to a spin. either way I think he learned his lesson. I think he was a bit stupid going up again the same day, which tells me he is a bit of a loose canon.

  • I am just wondering what the hell was he playing at to get himself in this situation.

  • He obviously was in a steep angle of attack and when the plane stalled the adverse yaw was making him turn as he slowed in his ascent, he obviously applied pressure to the flight yoke in the opposite direction he was starting to turn in, only problem is at this angle, your aileron is turning you in to the same direction as the plane was already headed, he should have taken his hands off the yoke and applied rudder in the opposite direction.

  • that air traffic controller is really good, he knows about flying planes appereantly and was really quick in reckognising and solving the stall-problem.

the pilot was probably a student.... or he didn't have a licence ;)

    thanks for sharing!

  • @crazymonkeyVII, somewhere in the phone convo, he said he hears the stall horn "every landing he makes"; this means he is not and student, and he most certainly has a license.

Hearing the stall horn during landing is a proper one - it's slowest airspeed provides the least amount of wear and tear on the undercarriage.

This method of landing is not always a part of a PPL or CPL syllabus, but is a practice generally reserved for those who are skilled in their particular aircraft.

  • Comment removed

  • sure did!

  • this is a awsome video. it just like your listening to the scanner. LOL

  • AVIATE, navigate, communicate... Jesus what was he shouting about anyway? It's not gonna help him regain control of the airplane?!

  • maybe on his situation u would do the same. And probably he was a student piloto or something.

  • he got into ifr conditions and rolled the plane... he thought he was going to die. facing death is different for everyone

  • @ephidapoon

That's why we are trained for, in all kind of conditions, to don't be in panic when something its going wrong. I think in our job, facing death its the last choice... Maybe it was the first time into the clouds for him and can be a lil bit scarry for the first time but otherwise its a big thing that he was able to give excuses to the briefieng and to the tower. This was a very dangerous but great experience for him. Now he will be more patient when something will happend.
