Could someone tell me how good the GPS signal is out there in the desert? Ofc, on a trip like this you would bring compass and map but the GPS ain't that trusted is it?
I rode an XT on this track to Arlit in '86 on a wing and a prayer and got lost for a while relying on a compass bearing (the other guy - on a ratty BM road bike - didn't make it).
Today, as long as you're outdoors the GPS signal is the same RTW and has transformed desert biking for the better - but it helps greatly to relate your position to a paper map.
Check out my D Riders trailer from 2003, we couldn't have done that without GPS.
