I've been playing drums for ten years and I'm shit sick of seeing people on youtube dissing drummers for not being fast enough, not playing enough double pedal or filling every fourth bar. Jared is a seriously awesome drummer. He's in the pocket. Always in time. And what's more, the guy makes videos for the younger guys out there to help them get better at drums! How many of you negative people out there can say you've done that? As a teacher myself, I applaud you. Great drummer.
I just really love this solo ♥ for me, jared is one the best drummers in the world!! i just love his grooves and i think for him, the speed is not that important and i think in this point he is totally right.
Jared, if you read this, i only want you to know that you have many, many fans out there and that there are many people looking up to you.
Please keep up your style and maybe you can film a new solo for all your fans out there.
I really admire Jared's patience and passion and really thank him for all the videos. I've been playing drums the wrong way all my life but because I stumbled on his video, I bought a drum pad and practice a few hours a day and his lessons really works. Thanks!
lol i had the rock drumming system (my mom lost it accidently :( ) and in the special disc the rock druming system had (the one handed roll video) jared looks so weird with long hair xD
Decent drummer. I have heard better but I have heard much much worse. But I do have to give props for the sound of the kit. That drum kit sounds fantastic.
@laudiumWP true man it's about fun people! spread positive energy with drums and enjoy them and embrace the talents of everyone it's not about being perfect, it's about having fun. don't forget what makes music important!

@stringsnsticks those are single stroke rolls that he's playing. You can practice with a metronome. It is best to start at a slow tempo and keep working your way up. after you feel comfortable you can begin experimenting around the set. Also if you looking at building your speed practice on a pillow or with heavier sticks.
@jonnifjader yeah... just an elementary solo. Had a decent groove to it, was played in time. He's not a beast by any means but entertaining i suppose.

@king94drummerboy Apology accepted. I'm really not trying to be a jerk here...Falk's infomercial tactics ("double your speed instantly!") and questionable advertising practices (phony positive reviews) just piss me off. If he were just some guy posting YouTube videos of himself I would have no problem with him. But he is taking advantage of young, inexperienced drummers by claiming to be some sort of secret knowledge expert then charging $ for information that you can get for nothing.
@JimmyFaust "But he is taking advantage of young, inexperienced drummers by claiming to be some sort of secret knowledge expert then charging $ for information that you can get for nothing."
Could you not say that EXACT same thing about any drum teacher out there? That they claim to know something their students don't and charge them money to learn from them? I'm not trying to be a jerk either, but I think he's just a guy that wants to help out.
@king94drummerboy Not really, because Falk is not only claiming to know more than students, he's claiming to know more than teachers. He's also claiming that his "system" is superior to the one-on-one interaction you get with a live teacher. If he really just wanted to help, he wouldn't claim common-knowledge as his own and sell it on multiple web sites using deception and fear-tactics.
he always has that shit what do i hit now face and way about him whenever he drums and its easy to spot straight away that hes not developed his own style like he just got lessons for 10yrs and thats it......
This isn't supposed to be super hard guys. It's to show you don't need to be a virtuoso to make a solo. Jared Falk is much better than the stuff he plays in this.
"When it comes to playing the drums, there is a secret that most drummers don't want to share with other musicians"--from Jared Falk's website.
Bullshit. There is no "secret", unless playing what you feel is a "secret". Drummers, in general, love to share what they know. Don't let this guy make you believe that you need his "system" to be a better drummer. You're better off spending your $97 on lessons, books, CDs, or the gas that gets you to your next band practice.
This guy's intention is clearly not to only make money. Check out his website, he's got 100s of amazing educational videos. Even check out his youtube channel, it's pretty cool.
@JimmyFaust The system he sells has lessons, books, and CD's. You can't just tell a beginner to "play what they feel". That will give you a pile of shit. The systems he sells are great foundations for anybody's drumming.
I didn't say that telling beginners to play what they feel is the only thing involved in teaching (although I would much rather listen to the playing of a creative beginner than Falk's uninspired, pretentious noodling). I was merely calling out Falk as a presumptuous hack--who does he think he is, speaking for all drummers and claiming to know some great secret? As for foundations for drumming, if Falk's playing is any indication, you can do a lot better for $97.
@JimmyFaust He's not a presumptuous hack. He could be touring with some really good band's right now but he decided that wasn't the life for him so he teaches now. You haven't watched all his videos, he's really good. Quit acting like "the secret" is his whole marketing ploy, it's not.
No freekin way this dude is making & selling dvds. I'm really not trying to be a dick but if this is true...My new dvd which will be way better in every possible way is coming out next year. I'm gonna start making vids this is getting outta control. Maybe I'm putting him up against the 'greats' but that's my personal gauge as well.

G'day Utubers, i got a set of ZXT Titaniums, the hats and splash are great, the crash and ride suck a little.
They were on special at our drum shop here (Billy Hydes). I tried em out and they sounded good at the shop, bought em home and, ummm, yeah, still not happy.
I do actually like the "A" customs, plus there affordable, but in saying that, i will be tring the Sabs HHX, and as the other guy here mentioned, the 2002'
Maybe this is just me but I see a lot of hesitation in this solo. At 2:19, and again at the 3:00 mark, where he goes into his rim taps. All in all, not a bad solo, but I've seen better.
Good overall drum solo. He shows a bunch of different things to do all while not leaving his foundational beat. This was not intended to be a super speed solo but has a very nice feel and rythm combined with some different tricks he teaches in his videos - which are very good by the way. I can learn from almost everyone out there which is great for me. Thanks Jared.
just pick a top line paiste and be delighted, zildjian's are overrated pieces of chunk... only K's for a vintage or jazz set.. everything just sucks simply put
15 years of drumming, 2 years paying the rent with it, and I'll stick to my mix and match array of Sabian-Zildjian stuff. To each his own...I like Subarus, you might like Volvos. We could do this all night.
you may be a great drummer, that is not the point... any cymbal would do the job just fine... but when it comes to musicality... equalizing analogic or digital imputs from mics.. durability, expression... paiste just owns... I have a set of A's and a set of K's... they will never be as good my 2002's or signature's... you can really tell the difference of craftmanship
Of course only a few would dare to spend 500bucks when they can pick a Zildjian for half the price and it is cool...
okey I've been drumming for as long as I can remember and I've tried out a lot of cymbals. I've ended up owning sabians, zildjians and a couple of meinls aswell I've never found a paiste cymbal I'm really happy with and I've tried the 2002's, the signatures and twenty's. I'm not saying they're bad cymbals in fact I kinda liked the twenty's but again I found a ,according to me, better sounding cymbal in sabian or zildjian. Just another guys oppinion ;)
This is not a very good drum solo. Even though I know Jared Falk is a lot better than me. It's pretty clear that this is intended as an example to show drummers that you don't need to be a virtuoso to play a solo.
kevinphd is such a douche, i was gonna resond to him personally but i thought maybe other people wanted to reflect on this as well, dude you have no clue obviously who jared falk is so fuck off you no-nothing fag, he is amazing, and yes post something better before you dis someone, this guy is part of a great company called railroadmedia along with lots of other great drummers, and by the way it's called a solo, solo don't have to have a full beat all the way through, i loved it
yuck. does this Jared Falk guy realise he played a whole bunch of uneven bars? lol and whats with the waving of the head from side to side like he's doing something really tricky? yawn, this guy is the most over rated drummer on the internet IMO
I heard bad press about this guy a few years back, that he's a bit of a charlaton, and that his drumming is a little dodgy for a 'Pro' drummer. Also that his tutorials are a rip off. Not my opinion, just what I heard people saying.
I believe that traditional lessons (meaning you and a professional teacher in the studio interacting) can't be replaced by internet "free" lesson. Also, this guys seems nothing but an average drummer that should work more on expression and dynamics
He's doing a technique I discovered recently where you kinda bounce the pedal off your foot then carry on with the stroke to get a double hit in the space of a single - called a slide technique because you often slide or hop your foot up for the second hit for added power. Look it up, and experiment :)
i learned that technique and i'd say im mastering it pretty well. not spamming or anything but the video is on my page of me doing it ErrorUncertainty
Gosh.....I can't ever click on a drum video and NOT see an argument going on....people love to slam drummers; others defend them and then shove it back in their face.....it's everywhere!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jared Falk is nothing special and the tuition books are a waste of paper and money. I may not be a better drummer than he is yet, i'm not far off but, but my friends are so much better than he is.
okay maybe Jared Falk isn't the best drummer, but u cant really say their lessons are useless. And it all depends on what style u play (like there's a difference in metal drumming and rock or punk)

Why does some drummers always want to be BETTER and FASTER than other drummers.
It does not matter who you are - there will always be someone looking UP to you... - and you will always look UP to someone...
There is a place for all of us under the sun! So - exept who you are and do the best you can.
Jared - YOU ARE AN AWESOME DRUMMER and taught a lot of us a lot of things on drums... - THANK YOU!!!!!

Maybe this is just me but I see a lot of hesitation in this solo. At 2:19, and again at the 3:00 mark, where he goes into his rim taps. All in all, not a bad solo, but I've seen better.
drummerdudex017 2 years ago
Good overall drum solo. He shows a bunch of different things to do all while not leaving his foundational beat. This was not intended to be a super speed solo but has a very nice feel and rythm combined with some different tricks he teaches in his videos - which are very good by the way. I can learn from almost everyone out there which is great for me. Thanks Jared.

snare drum sounds like a carbage can with snare wires
ddrummerw 2 years ago
it's set up for blues, like classic rock, like zep. does bonham's snare sound like a "carbage" can with snare wires?
drummerdudex017 2 years ago
this is a solo but its boring because he is just doing a drum beat, i know jared falk is good but i want to actually see him do something crazy
phatpeople1234 2 years ago
Zildjian sucks? yea and I guess you think Sabian is better??
rickshawb 2 years ago
paiste is the best by far
just pick a top line paiste and be delighted, zildjian's are overrated pieces of chunk... only K's for a vintage or jazz set.. everything just sucks simply put
BR177 2 years ago
15 years of drumming, 2 years paying the rent with it, and I'll stick to my mix and match array of Sabian-Zildjian stuff. To each his own...I like Subarus, you might like Volvos. We could do this all night.
drummerdudex017 2 years ago
of course, volvo's better than subaru
BR177 2 years ago
you may be a great drummer, that is not the point... any cymbal would do the job just fine... but when it comes to musicality... equalizing analogic or digital imputs from mics.. durability, expression... paiste just owns... I have a set of A's and a set of K's... they will never be as good my 2002's or signature's... you can really tell the difference of craftmanship
Of course only a few would dare to spend 500bucks when they can pick a Zildjian for half the price and it is cool...
BR177 2 years ago
I'll check em out, but as a professional, struggling drummer, probably won't be able to afford em :P
drummerdudex017 2 years ago
try them... 2002's and signature's or the new twenty's... you will love them seriously!!!
BR177 2 years ago
@rickshawb I love Zildjian but im really satisfied with my AAX ride

zildjian is for noobs
paiste totally owns all !
BR177 2 years ago
okey I've been drumming for as long as I can remember and I've tried out a lot of cymbals.

It's pretty clear that this is intended as an example to show drummers that you don't need to be a virtuoso to play a solo.
darthjoey13 2 years ago 6
kevinphd is such a douche, i was gonna resond to him personally but i thought maybe other people wanted to reflect on this as well, dude you have no clue obviously who jared falk is so fuck off you no-nothing fag, he is amazing, and yes post something better before you dis someone, this guy is part of a great company called railroadmedia along with lots of other great drummers, and by the way it's called a solo, solo don't have to have a full beat all the way through, i loved it

yuck. does this Jared Falk guy realise he played a whole bunch of uneven bars? lol and whats with the waving of the head from side to side like he's doing something really tricky? yawn, this guy is the most over rated drummer on the internet IMO

Play something better before you think this guy is over rated.

i really think he doesnt need to see more drum solos he can do 1
and watching solos you will copy them... thats not the point... maybe jared forgot to put some ostinato on the foot or something like that
but its oks its a solo...

I heard bad press about this guy a few years back, that he's a bit of a charlaton, and that his drumming is a little dodgy for a 'Pro' drummer. Also that his tutorials are a rip off. Not my opinion, just what I heard people saying.
mellodge 2 years ago 4
bought the "RDS" vid, the books are good and he teaches fairly well about notation.. but not what i expected at all. Honest review.

I believe that traditional lessons (meaning you and a professional teacher in the studio interacting) can't be replaced by internet "free" lesson. Also, this guys seems nothing but an average drummer that should work more on expression and dynamics
SuperPerrocaliente 2 years ago
does anyone know how he does the drum fills at 2:14 and 2:17?
cuz it sounds like hes using a double pedal but in the video i can only see one foot moving, which to me is incredible.
if its just really fast double kicks on the right leg then thats just amazing
can anyone just verify what he's doing so i can work on it so i can improve myself?
Parkita71 2 years ago
he's using simply slide technique ;)
DustDrummer112 2 years ago
could you explain what that is?
sorry to be a bother, lol but i really wanna know how to be able to do that
Parkita71 2 years ago
Go to the web site.He gives free lessons on it ,and it realy worked for me.
deha24 2 years ago
You could type that in search and watch)
DustDrummer112 2 years ago
i am very sure that he is only using the single kick because his high hat foot doesn't move at all.
he could be doing 1 of to things double strokes or slides on the pedal i think he is doing slides on the pedals
but i could be wrong its kind of hard to see what he is doing.
theunsumedpunk 2 years ago
He's doing a technique I discovered recently where you kinda bounce the pedal off your foot then carry on with the stroke to get a double hit in the space of a single - called a slide technique because you often slide or hop your foot up for the second hit for added power. Look it up, and experiment :)
ErrorUncertainty 2 years ago
i learned that technique and i'd say im mastering it pretty well. not spamming or anything but the video is on my page of me doing it ErrorUncertainty

Gosh.....I can't ever click on a drum video and NOT see an argument going on....people love to slam drummers; others defend them and then shove it back in their face.....it's everywhere!

Jared Falk is nothing special and the tuition books are a waste of paper and money. I may not be a better drummer than he is yet, i'm not far off but, but my friends are so much better than he is.
RobertReedMusic 2 years ago
okay maybe Jared Falk isn't the best drummer, but u cant really say their lessons are useless. And it all depends on what style u play (like there's a difference in metal drumming and rock or punk)
