dude there there are plenty examples that he was atleast a person that went to church. for example in the episode of smallville when jor-el and laura was looking at the kents to raise kal-el. laura and kara was at the kent farm when they were at church. that is how clark got a actual picture of his real mother before he could meet her in the blue kryptonite episode. ( i forgot those episodes names)
Superman was raised Methodist and attended a Methodist church but was also raise with Protestant values and beliefs. He stopped going church though when his super-senses kicked in because he knew too much about the people and was afraid he'd lose faith in people.
@ManOfSteel30, Icon was the Milestone (The company that originally published Static) equivalent of Superman.
Just so everyone knows, what I'm doing in this series of vids is sort of an homage to DCUO, where Jack Ryder, a talk show host who tells everyone they're wrong, can be heard throughout. Ryder is a comic book character who hosts a Rush Limbaugh type loudmouth talk show. Ryder eventually becomes the Creeper.
@nicolaho1 I THINK that may be a toilet paper roll Reindeer that my daughter made in Kindergarten. I can't be sure cause I'm only seeing this now and the tree is long down. But yeah, I could see how it MIGHT look like that!
We needed more action, less family values, more Super and less Luthor, less campy humor, and more hope. I lie almost all of the CGI, with the exception of the pushing of the shuttle into space, that scene just screams CGI, people looking in the sky with their mouths open and not one screams OMG it Superman or 'Look ...Up in the Sky!", Jimmy should be a kid, not a dork, and Lois well Kate Bosworth is hot but she sucked. So no we're not WRONG we're Correct! I do agree with the rest of what u cover
@superchef74 Hey Chef, see above for my explanation as to the whole "You are wrong," thing. I don't actually think anyone is "wrong," per se, just doing a sendup.
Ok I have to disagree with you Scotty as we are not all wrong but we are all correct in our own opinions. Superman Returns... I saw it 3 times in the theatre, and many other times at home, mostly because of the beauty of it, the sadness and mostly because it is a Superman movie period, on the other hand there are issues with the film that still make it take a back seat to All 4 Chris Reeve movies, mainly Superman was a true symbol of hope, unlike SR where he seamed to be lost between planets.
@PhilliesSuperman He may have been seen outside a church in the Donner film when his father died, and in the comics when L&C were wed it was in a church. However, Superman has never declared a "religion" and doesn't go to a church regularly. Likely so as not to turn off whole potential groups of readers.
They do find the heart and soul of Superman in this film. A Superman who is forced to accept change and let the one he truly love be truly happy. Even if it isn't with him. This movie is about how it makes you feel. And sadly one of those feelings for me this time around was sadness. I really felt as though this is the last time we will see Superman on the big screen as Superman, the Donner Superman. The Superman who was the first to make us believe a man can fly, no strings attached.
It's not that Superman is a unwed father in "Returns," it's the fact that he just flies away at the end, like some sort of super-powered deadbeat dad.
As far as Superman's religion, I'd say it's a safe bet that raised on a Midwest farm and by an elderly couple, he probably went to church every Sunday...but this wasn't depicted because DC simply shied away from it so as to not offend anyone, except Midwestern church-going elderly farmers and their families.
@HulkSmashTime I don't think midwestern farmeres need be offended by the fact that a specific religion, if any, has ever been named for Superman and the Kents. I also think it's highly possible that many midwestern families aren't necessarily religious. All I know is that Superman himself hasn't been portrayed as particularly earthly religious. He exclaims things like "Rao!" Or sometimes "Gods..." But for, as you say, so not to turn people off, an official religion hasn't been declared.
@HulkSmashTime Also, I don't think he "flew away" as a deadbeat dad at the end. He tells the kid in his monologue that he will always be there for him. Further, we can posit ourselves, that Superman will watch out for the child and support he and Lois financially. Or, we could... assume not, but I don't really see why him flying off means anything other than he was leaving for that particular time.
The reason why I hate supes returns was because there is 0 action and superman isnt SUPER!! like chris reeves ! you know like he isnt that symbol og hope and justice and stuff!
