  • @cbmdg8551976 You're an idiot. This is a very very good tutorial.

  • @HarryPotterAndBalls unfortunately my kid commented on my address. However, I can tell you that either one of us are idiots. If he doesn't think its any good, it probably isn't. You on the other hand sound like you might be the biggest moron on the planet, just by your first sentence. If you don't have an idea of what the fuck you are talking about, then don't comment you jack-off. Harry Potter tag-what a fuckin dork.

  • Is the 3D warehouse thing necessary?

  • You don't need to have a pro version i have a normal version and i can also upload my hous so it shoudn't be a problem

  • oh yeah thanks but i didnt buy sketchup pro, what now

  • @drumatic86 shouldn't matter, I believe... I don't have it either

  • I tried everything you're doing and I can't get a roof shot on my building. the longer I try figuring it out the madder I'm getting. I'm a good artist and there is no reason why these programs need to be this hard to use!!!! all I wanted to do was get some 3D buildings in canada.

  • You can't do this without the Pro version, can you? There are buildings where I live I'd love to do, but the easy way isn't available.

  • Is this the pro version of Sketchup? I really wanna do some buildings where I live, but of course, the easy way is not available.

  • tip if you want your model to look really great... take photos of your building at the same time of day that the aerial photo was taken so the sides that cast a shadow will be in shade.

  • i did what u did but during the sharing at 3d warehouse it says unauthorized error 401

  • how do you uplaod a building on google earth?

  • Is there a way i can save someones Pre- made model to my computer? (ex: Bran Castle) ^_^ im re- making the castle in 3d 8 bit fashion

  • Looks pretty easy :)

I need to take some shots around now :D

  • this was one of the best tutorials i've seen in a while very well done.

  • I am lost. Skethcup 8 does the import of Google Earth locations differnet. I get a grey layer. That's all. I don't know, what to do further...

  • Edit: Now I got it. I opend the location a couple of times, moved the area, moved the pins and finally the ground-texture came into SketchUp. I think using the highest zoom level causes the problem. I use now one step before the max level and it semms to work.

  • NICE!

  • love it it is very useful maybe if i already have google sketchup i will do that but i will do our own house

  • Cool thx!

  • thankyou :)

  • Thanks so much, from Venezuela sorry my english, I love google sketchup

  • Best video thanks

  • @ChimmyChimchar he took em, i use google street view

  • Outstanding. Super complex but I will attempt it with the use of your video.

  • Great for Buildingmaker modelers ....Thanks !

  • Nice video Thx :D

  • can anybody tell me if there is a way to dig into the landscape your using in google earth for google sketchup??

  • It's realy helpful video !!! THANK YOU !

  • really excellent video.

    Thank you very much

  • Does anyone know why I can't import any images?

  • @cheezebs The image must be in .gif format. .png and other formats will not work.

  • very, very, VERY GOOD VIDEO!!! THNX ;)

  • your awsome dude thanks

  • FANTASTCCCCCCC XD

  • Learning something new every day..... Thanks!

  • grate tutoeial! realy helpfull! altho you r kinda repetertive

  • Great tutorial but why does the guy's voice sounds a bit to me like forest gump? :D

  • cool!

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • this dudes voice sucks eggz and well he does know his google sketchup. :) but next time make a vid with a bit more enthusiasm then i might watch the whole thing :)

  • Get a better voice! lol kidding - it's just a bit draining is all :) But you know your stuff (y)

  • @Shreddiee lolz iiloveeyou u make me laugh and u do kno who i am lol :)

  • Indeed a five-star tutorial. Tempted to do my house, with the new roof and gutters. How are peaked roofs handled?

  • Thank you!!!

  • This is perfect.

If I knew it was so easy!

If there is a program easier to use than sketchup, should be more expensive than a plane.

  • how do u get so many icons

  • downlaoding google earth 99%

  • thank you so much for the video! i couldnt find out how to do this!

  • thanks for the vid

  • If you look around in the pull down menus there is an option to have all the tools on screen.

  • How come your interface in Sketchup is different from the regular one? The only other version I've seen only has a par of basic tools along the top. You have a sidebar on the left of your screen. Why don't I have that? I downloaded Sketchup Pro 7.1.

    Thanks

  • go to veiw, toolbars then choose large tool set

  • nice tuturoial! can use street view to get textures xD

  • muchas gracias, me ha sido de mucha ayuda y utilidad.

  • Comment removed

  • i buildten my own house lol

  • Best video to clear things out.

  • you have to double click to get the pin to drag like that. (v7.1)

  • How do you put a photo over a curved building facade?

  • i like this

  • does the ''click/drag also work in free versions? or only pro?

    thanx good tut.

  • im working on my hole town oswego ny

  • Which version is this? I downloaded google sketchup 7 and it is not the same... :(

  • same here

  • Nevermind, I finally get it :D

  • whats awesome is you can use google maps street view for the textures, google is the best

  • street view photo isnt in One Piece, resulting hard to scale up and pasting on ur 3D surface. Also streetview photos are limited in point of views.

  • Tanx man it helped me alot:D

  • Easy because it's very good explained ,thank you very much, excelent !

  • please watch my videos ive created many with google sketchup!

  • I wonder how long it'll take for every building in the world to be 3D.

  • and how much memory itll take up... :P

  • awesome thx so much. it makes it soo much easier now. it is just a bit hard for the buildings with intricate shapes.

  • thx sooo much!

  • that is like one of the coolest things ive ever seen!!!

  • excelente tutorial amigo muchisimas gracias

  • I made a 3D model an it wont upload it says I need a KMZ file?

  • erm I made a model of my firends house and wen I entered to google earth back it wasn't there and I turned on "3d buildings and it still wasn't there =(. but nice tutorial.

  • it keeps on telling me error taking a snapshot what should i do?

  • Pretty useful. Just because of this video, some more people will dare to make some GE-buildings.

    Thank you!

  • @48abc24 I can't import from Google Earth OR the 3D warehouse, and I've updated to Pro. I've tried all the damn forums, and no one can come up with a definitive answer, other than uninstall, upgrade, reinstall ... all of which DON'T WORK. Bloody useless.

  • good tutoeial 5 stars ☺:Ð

  • Excellent video, Sugeotrainer. I had been putting off doing my first GE 3D model until I saw this. One thing... if the building isn't a simple box shape, it can be tricky getting the right height and angles on the roof, etc. I've found that creating a simple box shape and texturing it with long-view pics helps a lot, then I can take measurements within SketchUp and add the actual building shape, replacing the long-view pics with more detailed ones. Any other tips?

  • I'm running Google Sketchup 7. I am having trouble getting it to import images from Google Earth. Every time I try to import an image from Google Earth it says an error occured while attempting. Is there something I can do to get this to work? patch etc?

  • re-install google Sketchup or download it from another site

  • 5 Megabytes?!?!? I could do that building easily in about 60 K or so...

  • Cool, I was trying to fit the whole flow into the available time, would love to see your techniques for reducing file size. You can find the building in GE at 2597 Pearl Street in Boulder CO. The photos used (at their original resolution) can be found by searching my user name "sugeotrainer" on Picasa Web Albums. It'd be cool to see you work your magic. Cheers

  • C'est géniale et bien instructive.

  • Excellent instructional video. Thank you!

  • thxx a lot

  • The tree removal was interesting but bodgy with no atempt to blend textures. I take my photos on overcast days to minimise shadow problems for this very reason.

A photo editor is much better in removing trees.

  • Would love to see how you blend textures in this context. You can find the original photos used to create the model by searching my user name "sugeotrainer" on Picasa Web albums

  • Not a bad video for a very basic building. However, no mention was made on how the height was known. Also, at 3'20" it can be seen that the right of the building does not line up wth the photo. In the next scene this has been fixed up without mention. I rarely use unfixed pins as the green one scales the photo in all directions reducing distortion.

  • Good catch, mate. Yep, I had to do some cutting to fit into 10 minute YouTube maximum length. If any of ya'll are interested in seeing this side being worked on, you can check it out by searching on my user name in YouTube - "sugeotrainer" cheers, James.

  • we can't do The "Make unique Texture" application with the normal google sketchup (not the pro). there a ways to do otherwise?

  • You are so lucky that ur location is this much good quality i cant find my house in google earth "israel's quality is very bad"

  • what do you do when the building is a bit more complicated than a box? Sydney Opera House or something?

  • Good question Iggy I wish they would have video tutorial on how to model a neighborhood. That would be useful!

  • Good question! More complex building forms and advanced modeling techniques are illustrated in a series of videos available from the SketchUp home page on the " "Build models and add them to Google Earth" link or from Google 3DWarehouse from the home page link called "video tutorials"

  • i have a problem..

every time when i want to import some images it will not show my photos

    can someone help me ??

  • You select the image and then you can't see it in the model?? Or you can't even select it on the "import box"?

  • i cant even select/see it on the import box... : (

  • If you select "All supported image types" on "Files of type" you must see them. Sketchup supports .jpg .png .psd .tif .tga and .bmp image formats.

  • Thanks for this video, very helpful.
