@HarryPotterAndBalls unfortunately my kid commented on my address. However, I can tell you that either one of us are idiots. If he doesn't think its any good, it probably isn't. You on the other hand sound like you might be the biggest moron on the planet, just by your first sentence. If you don't have an idea of what the fuck you are talking about, then don't comment you jack-off. Harry Potter tag-what a fuckin dork.
I tried everything you're doing and I can't get a roof shot on my building. the longer I try figuring it out the madder I'm getting. I'm a good artist and there is no reason why these programs need to be this hard to use!!!! all I wanted to do was get some 3D buildings in canada.
tip if you want your model to look really great... take photos of your building at the same time of day that the aerial photo was taken so the sides that cast a shadow will be in shade.
Edit: Now I got it. I opend the location a couple of times, moved the area, moved the pins and finally the ground-texture came into SketchUp. I think using the highest zoom level causes the problem. I use now one step before the max level and it semms to work.
this dudes voice sucks eggz and well he does know his google sketchup. :) but next time make a vid with a bit more enthusiasm then i might watch the whole thing :)
How come your interface in Sketchup is different from the regular one? The only other version I've seen only has a par of basic tools along the top. You have a sidebar on the left of your screen. Why don't I have that? I downloaded Sketchup Pro 7.1.
erm I made a model of my firends house and wen I entered to google earth back it wasn't there and I turned on "3d buildings and it still wasn't there =(. but nice tutorial.
@48abc24 I can't import from Google Earth OR the 3D warehouse, and I've updated to Pro. I've tried all the damn forums, and no one can come up with a definitive answer, other than uninstall, upgrade, reinstall ... all of which DON'T WORK. Bloody useless.
Excellent video, Sugeotrainer. I had been putting off doing my first GE 3D model until I saw this. One thing... if the building isn't a simple box shape, it can be tricky getting the right height and angles on the roof, etc. I've found that creating a simple box shape and texturing it with long-view pics helps a lot, then I can take measurements within SketchUp and add the actual building shape, replacing the long-view pics with more detailed ones. Any other tips?
I'm running Google Sketchup 7. I am having trouble getting it to import images from Google Earth. Every time I try to import an image from Google Earth it says an error occured while attempting. Is there something I can do to get this to work? patch etc?
Cool, I was trying to fit the whole flow into the available time, would love to see your techniques for reducing file size. You can find the building in GE at 2597 Pearl Street in Boulder CO. The photos used (at their original resolution) can be found by searching my user name "sugeotrainer" on Picasa Web Albums. It'd be cool to see you work your magic. Cheers

Not a bad video for a very basic building. However, no mention was made on how the height was known. Also, at 3'20" it can be seen that the right of the building does not line up wth the photo.
