  • The video does a good job of showing the reality of how harsh it can be.

  • I actually find that eating snow can help keep my temperature under control when I am exerting myself in the snow. The last thing you want to do is sweat like a pig and get hypothermia, so in the earlier hours, when I'm working hard, it's actually good to keep my core body temp down. Just a tip. Of course, eating snow in any other circumstance is a bad idea.

  • you know its funny, you can tell as the video progresses and you start talking, you start acting less like youre bothered by the cold, I would imagine mostly because youre focusing on talking rather than focusing on the cold. as someone who has spent enough time in cold weather, I would say that is probably the best method to survive it: think about something else!

    great videos man

  • @soulevs thanks for the feedback! The only problem with thinking about something else, or deferment is sometimes it can lead to losing focus on the situation. If I keep a running record of what is happening with my body and the weather every few minutes, then its ok for me to defer. If you notice in this series, the cold gets to me and my speech, slowing down my though process a bit-early stages of hypothermia aren't to far away...thanks again for your comment!

  • Very interesting video. First, the harsh conditions, looks like it's not a kids game, and second, the psychology, psychology of survival and getting away from everyday troubles.

  • @tekknorat you got that right, I froze my ass off! Thanks for your comment!

  • I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A COMPREHENSIVE VIDEO WHAT GEAR YOU WOULD BRING ON A WINTER CAMPING TRIP.

    1. TENT

    2. FOOD AND COOK GEAR

    3. CLOTHING, GLOVES AND HEAD GEAR

    4. BOOTS, SOCKS ETC.

    5. SLEEP GEAR

    6. PACK, TOOLS AND EVERYTHING NOT COVERED IN 1 THRU 5

  • @unopsec OK, this winter is the time for winter camping videos. My focus is primarily on emergency survival without the gear. Stay tuned!

  • What amazes me, is the commentary for this video is soo negative. It really does strike at the heart of some kind of fear in people, which brings out their anger and rejection. I think I am on to something, and will delve deeper into this phenomenon in the Active Awareness Series. One concept I will explore is the emotional cycle of fear-anger-sadness-despair-surrender. Controlling the emotions is critical for surviving extreme scenarios.

  • I wouldn't say that people who eat snow are stupid, I'd say that they are unaware.

  • @janken919 OK, thanks...for what its worth, it is not an intelligent option. I was living this out in a storm without the comfort of being on my computer to edit it. Thanks for your comment.

  • If you live in Mountainous Snow Country then you know mental endurance is important. It is tough up here. Mental Endurance training and preparation includes dealing with extreme weather that keeps you hunkered down for a few hours or even a day. This scenario is reality for many lost in snow country. You beat death by knowing your limits, reading the environment, and taking advantage of the breaks the weather gives you..to signal for rescue, make water and dry out clothing.

  • @selfreliancegroupcom This is why I do "hey this is what I have done", have a look at some pics, vids and not how to's or instructional opinion videos.. Too many opinions and smart asses out there to get anywhere ..And when I view other peoples, I try to be of the mind set they have a specific idea in their head, for that situation and their needs and I try to just take from it what I can use, and leave the rest. One thing about western ppl is everyone wants to be the rockstar, nvr the groupe ..

  • @Bootnknife Cont---->so they prefer to fight and rag on other people to raise themselves up...People are just here to help but no one is perfect... No one should take anything anyone posts in a video or a comment as law. Research and practice on your own before you judge others..And be positive...That will make you a rock star, never a groupie...

  • @Bootnknife Its alright, thanks Bootknife.

  • @selfreliancegroupcom Anytime..happy new years to everyone..

  • The idea of knowing your limits and accepting them is what this mental endurance is about. Dealing with pain, suffering and the possibility of death without becoming a worthless pile of flesh, breaking down emotionally and making lethal mistakes. IF YOU DONT SUFFER YOU AREN'T TRAINING FOR THE WORST. I train in the dark, blindfolded, without knives, poor clothing, etc etc etc. Because that is reality, Murphy's Law is the best bet much of the time.
