What impresses me is that the driver in the oncoming mini-van clearly sees there is a potential for disaster and reverses away from the train tracks. Then the driver accelerates forwards and turns right as the train collides with the truck.
Alot of truck drivers can t hear, see, or read anyways. There may have been a possibility he was jawjacking on the phone, or on qualcomm(which I seriously doubt he had) or reading map or BOL.
the company pissed em off and hes like ok ill show you, you need this deliverd tomarrow pronto? OK ; ) lol dumbass is lucky he's alive .. and that suv is like WTF!?! just happend lol
just another dumb ass farmer that thinks he can drive a truck. Don't get me wrong, farmers are great people, but they think they own the roads and CANNOT drive semi's! I speak from LOTS of experience.
I was at soccer practice next to tracks before, and I had to go get the ball, and I did, but when I started walking back, I was next to the tracks when this dude on an engine train thing with just the front part came by at like 100mph, the gates didn't even start blinking before he zoomed by.
There was definitely some sort of notification a train was coming. Check out the van thats just sitting there at the tracks moments before the collision occurs. He backs up and hauls ass outta there to avoid getting hit with debris.
Whether the trucker can see a train or not, grade crossings are well marked and have RED lights flashing not GREEN. I wonder what kind of a stiry he told the Cops
The railroad track is at an angle to the road. I've crossed those before, and its really hard to see trains coming from your left. I see a puff of what looks like brake smoke just before the tracks. Then you can see black exhaust smoke as he stomps on the gas to get out of the way. IMO the driver saw the train at the last minute, and wasn't trying to beat a train. That train is hauling ass through that industrial area.
as to your last comment semis hauling hazzardous materials have to stop at RR crossings too. Gas, chemicals, and explosives ect. Corn isn't on that list lol
Just a guess, but based on the surrondings the trailer was probably full of grain. Notice the lucky driver of the SUV coming in the opposite direction (who makes the correct decision and stops at the crossing with plenty of time to spare) narrowly avoids paying the price for the truck driver's stupidity.
The best part is that the trucker's insurance won't cover the cost of the trailer or cargo. He was committing felony trespass. That little bit of stupid is going to cost him $25,000 to $100,000.
DAMMIT MY CORN!!!

OK I'm confused. I don't see a gate
that should warn the truck not to cross.
Is there a signal or something?
bubblehead58 4 years ago
one trains are required by federal law to blow there horns when they are comming to any road/ train crossing to warn people in cars.
the second thing is when ever you come to a train that has no gates you should stop at the tracks and look both ways for trains.
i know that buses have to stop at every train crossing whether or not there is a gate. i dont know if it applies to any thing else.

Actually the SUV driver realized the truck was going for it and put his SUV in reverse to gtfo.
