If you have a mellow cat, and expose it to the rat when the rat is young, everything will be chill. rats learn to trust things early. Which is another point, if you ever get a pet rat, make sure it's a young one and give it lots of attention early in its life, and it'll be your best pal, ride on your shoulder, in your pockets, whatevs. Otherwise it'll bite your ass.

Oh what a cute rat :) I so wish I had a camera around back when my rat would steal the cat's food, and ferociously push the feline away when she wanted in on the action (this was the time before camera phones though). Often she would chase the cat around the house too, and even bit the poor thing once :) Best pet ever really, friend to man and enemy of cats. The very same cat didn't hesitate to attack big dogs either, quite strange.
