Although I understand the political reality why the Michigan Department of Civil Rights would not include LGBT voices on this ad, it remains a glaring omission. Unfortunately, it highlights why this agencies relevance and effectiveness in the state of Michigan is minimal.
Only Fair is Fair. Unless you are gay or transgender. Here in Michigan the law does NOT protect gay and transgender citizens from unfair discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodations. Differences in dress sizes? Yes. Gay? No.
We need to update the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect ALL Michiganders, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.
