This was the game where Bird hit 2 fts to win the game, before he shot them he raised his arms to urge the Clip fans to get into it, it's too bad the footage isn't here that shows larry raising his arms to incite the crowd.
Wasn't this when he was chasing Calvin Murphy's consecutive free throw streak ( which has since been passed) Murphy had the record at 78 and Bird's ended around 73. He was at 50 something at the time. Ricky Pierce off all people I believe has the record now in the 80s
What a crack league the NBA is now. Ainge gets fined for throwing a towel in front of Lebron and the chicken gets nothing for distracting Larry Legend? Players need to be coddled so much now. Just have laugh like Larry and then nail the two free throws!
wow in the last two freethrows notice how larry doesnt even take that long to take the shot even if it's crunch time and the game is on the line. such confidence.
@geocgeo if i knew he would make both shots, i would have bet my house, my wife, my kids, but not my car ! that he would miss at least one of them. i would also want someone else wife, kids, and house if i won ! shit, 2 annoying hags to hide from !
@zyxwut321 Bird hit 2 free throws at the end of the first half and 2 free throws with TWO TENTHS OF A SECOND LEFT "this will effictively win the game". WATCH THE VIDEO AGAIN AND LISTEN TO WHAT IS SAID...LOL
i dont understand...if the celtics were down 2, clippers shouldn't have fouled or if they wanted to foul, they should have done that way sooner. that way they'd have last possession and a chance to win it with the pressure being on the celtics instead.
great vid, this is a lot better than some crap shown on NBATV or ESPN classic with all that crap on the screen.Hail to the original broadcast haha and hail to mr 1987hawkeyes
@thatdudecozz89 I remember one year (pretty sure it was 1985-86) when the Celtics went 40-1 at home. I remember watching the only game they had lost that season at home and it was Portland (one of the worst teams in the league at that time) who beat them.
Boston had a big lead in that game and then they just collapsed.
@sean2015 Portland was so bad that they made the playoffs that year and they KILLED the Celtics in that game THEY BEAT THE CELTICS BY 1 POINT IN OVERTIME...ROFL...Your memory really sucks.
@geocgeo What is your PROBLEM? What, do you expect me to remember all the NBA team records and conference seeds from 25 years ago? For the record, it turns out that the Trail Blazers had a losing record during that 1985-86 NBA season (I just looked it up). They did make the playoffs that year but they lost in the First Round.
@sean2015 Boston LA and Houston DOMINATED in the 1985-86 season you genius the Trail Blazers did not have a bad team they were outclassed like the other teams in the NBA that season. The Trail Blazers lost to the Rockets who had Hakeem Olajuwon 1 of the top NBA centers EVER and 7 foot 3 Ralph Sampson who before his knee injuries was a tough matchup. Portland did not have a bad team they played against some of the best teams ever that's why they lost in the first round. Your memory SUCKS.
yeah ok I thought it was distracting him so the clippers could steal the ball but once i realized it was free throws I knew he was going to make them

The mascot IS NOT nor has ever been affiliated with the Los Angeles Clippers. Neither NBA team in Los Angeles has a mascot.

I'd bet if those were real women, fully nude... Larry would still make both free shots... because he's the coolest guy in NBA ever, period

He actually missed those last two free throws at the end of the game...for him. He didn't swish them. Must've had the adrenaline flowing there.

Charles Smith was destined to be a loser in the NBA...he was here, and later with the Knicks, v Bulls.
Great upload..

as i recall most of the western division teams did not have good defense. still the NBA was exciting @ that time period.**

Nice call, the foul was actually on 00, slapped him right on the side of the hand, good call refs

You could have called Smith for the grab at the top of the key, grabbed him by the arm and no call.

How can they make a call that will determine the game...I thought they let players decide the outcome by letting them play

@thatdudecozz89 Back then, as what is often the case now, the Celtics often went on a west coast roadie right after Christmas...

yeah, I can see that from reading up on the Celtics' past schedules and scores
