No they didn't! The assumptions are: 1. ferrari wants to prove that cabriolet is as fast and 2. Top Gear is neutral. Now since ferrari wants to prove that cabriolet is as fast, their test driver, I would accuse, has driven the hard top slower than he actually could. It would have been more awesome if the test driver could have beaten Top Gear (assuming that the host is neutral and a decent driver) in a cabriolet from behind.

Both Clarkson and the Ferrari test driver were drifting all over the place to make a good show. I don't think Clarkson would have been able to keep up with a professional driver let alone in a slightly slower car.

In any case most people buy the Ferrari's for showing off and don't really have the talent or knowledge or take the car to the track to really experience the difference from the coupe to the convertible. I would have chosen the convertible, it looks better!
