hahaaaaaaaaa! i have two budgies and a zebra finch too! i once put the finch in the budgies cage but the budgies bullied it. your birds seem to be friends :)
@blah2daworld23 I recommend leave them without food for some hours, then give them the food but in your hands, that is the best way tht I know.. Good luck :)
i need help . i have two parakeets (lil kim & say say) i had them for almost 2 years n they are still scared of me .i tried puttin my hand n there in lettin them out the cage ,i even talk to them n they still scared how come afte so long they are still scared of me or anyone for that matter ?? what can i do to get more friendly parakeets ?
They lived like this for 6 years, and they are still like brothers. The finch is 11 years old now, had a pair that passed avay. So the finch literarry moved in the budgie's cage. So no concern here please. Everyone wonders how could a budgie and a finch live together. Well it's simple as this. I've been dealing with birds since I was 6 years old... So trust me. You should see them playing.
@Hinduismglance Well, that's a great thing to hear about. A lot of people don't understand how can a finch and a budgie live together. Well, my case is a fine example, everyone should see them together day by day.
Careful i used to have 4 finches and 2 budgie but i herd that zebra finches arent suppose to be out their cage because they get too excited or scared so they basically die of a heart attack thats what happened to one of my zebra finches:(
Well, my finch is 9 years old now. And he was held free since I bought him. ...I can hold him in my the palm of my hand without any problem. I grew him up this way, and now he and the budgie are very docile...
Your zebra finch was probably hand fed by humans when it was a baby because my zebra finches fly away whenever i try to hold them. I bet your zebra finch was hand fed when it was just a little chick.
I know they are not dum. :) But seeing this every day, it amuses me a lot. I'm a bird fanatic. I love all species of birds, especially the small ones. And I love my budgie. ...but he is sometimes looking and acting like an idiot, but this is actually what I like the most. It means he's feeling more tha OK.
Haha my budgies always flies along side my finch! Though my bigger budgie is actually more or so scared of the finch!, and always flies of if the finch get's close! :D Ironic seeing as my smaller budgie always will play with the tiny zebra finch :D
its male zebra finch look too funny same mine society try play with mate spice finch same nest not happen half society half spice 3 babies last year ago
My first zebra finch lived to be 14 years old! My parents bought the little guy for me when I was in 4th grade and he finally died while I was in college.
Wow. Glad to hear of another finch as old as mine. Was he also a standard gray color with red cheeks?--Mine is standard color and my family bought him when I was in 1st grade, June of 1994, and he was about 4 months old at purchase-- so I think he's 14 yrs 4 months old.
Yeah! He was a standard color, had a beautiful song too. Haven't heard any other bird do it as good as him lol Awesome to hear about your own finch, makes me happy :)
Update: My old guy died last week, Aug. 30th. We had him for 14 yrs 3 months (6/94 - 9/08), and he was approx. 3-6 months old at purchase -- So he was almost 15 years old in total life span. The funny little guy only ate seed, with an occasional lettuce leaf. I bet he'd be 16 or so if I had changed his cage more often.
A ZEBRA FINCH!!!! WE HAD A DADDY ONE IT DIED I CRIED AND YEAH Joey is the name of him and yeah its not A STUPID BIRD!! and he had five babies but one died, it was soo small and had poo bird seed on its butt! poor guy and this little son of his looks like him and his name is Ducky they're still alive!!
Ok :) I'm so curious. I just love finches! But never heard of one living this age. Hmmm 17 years is the record... Than suppose yours is one of the oldest. :)
14 years old finch?? WOW!! Now how much is that supposed to be, measured on human scale? Congrats for your little bird!! Never heard of a finch living so long.
Thanks. His name is Laurel, and he enjoyed his evening supper a couple hours ago. He's old and pretty slow, but still gets up and flutterrs, beeps, and enjoys my company.
The oldest Zebra Finch on record was said to be 17.
9 years is pretty old for a finch, but no record. I have a gray male Zebra finch that is 14 years old, and he might truly be a record. He outlived is wife, and all five children--including his 10 yr old son.
cute my brother used to have 2 zebra finches while i only had one budgie my budgie was best mates with the finches but when the finches died my budgie was really upset so i got him a girlfriend now hes happy again
Your budgie is a bit of a perv but they are so funny. I didn't think you could mix the birds like that because budgies are bigger etc. but they seem happy enough!
what is your zebra finch's name? its very patient to put up with your psycho keet. they all try to make love to everything, toys, fingers, other species birds, etc. cute pair.
Yes I know. Sometimes he "makes love" with a green laundry clip (his favorite toy), making such a noise that can be really hard to stand. :) He's a pervert! LOL
No they are not clipped. He's just too lazy to fly away or whatever :). He grew up free in our house and can fly anywhere he wants (in the house of course). Now he is 8 years old. :)
Is it ok to house a Budgie and a Zebra Finch together?Because i have a Budgie and I'm thinking of getting a Zebra Finch because of their singing. Thanks.
There's no problem. I'm not an expert, but I had a pair of finches and a budgie. There was no problem at all, they get use to each other wery fast. Yet when I had a pair of finches they were linving in a different cage. Now as the female finch died, the little male was left without his "wife". So now he lives together in the same cage with my budgie. And as I said they are bound together wery tightly. Of course it's good to ask an expert's opinion, but I think there will be no problem.
It's so good to see them together like this, considering that they are completely different species. The little guy is tight to his "bigger brother" too. And they live together under one roof. But this budgie is a phenomenon...:) I love him! Gives a colourful atmosphere to my home.
Yapp they can always make you smile! This little finch had 3 "wives" but he overlived them all. Now he is approx 8,5-9 years old (that means an 110 years old man :). Let's hope he'll be a record breaker :D.
