  • Excellent landing! The pilot and passenger walked away on their own powerand the airplane could be flown again, I presume. Keep up the good work!

  • Shit happens

  • You got down safe that's the main thing, thanks for showing us that anyone can have a bad hair day.

  • not to bad, we all have had those types of landings, keep practicing and you will be fine..

  • You walked away from it and you didn't lose your licence. good landing for me.

  • Hahaha, fantastic! We're all human and all make mistakes from time to time! Love the way you share this with everyone! Good on ya!

  • Lol. your just testing the suspension a little...no biggie :P

  • Other than getting off centerline, it wasn't really that bad....looked at first like he was dragging it in, but I think that runway was just really narrow and caused that illusion. Obviously you don't want to slam the plane down, but a firm landing like this one isn't all that big of a deal...heck, it helps dissipate energy and improve landing distance!! LOL

  • Been there,done that.

  • LoL. thats how i land on fsx. All the time :(

  • any landing you walk away from is a good landing.......

  • @tgrim722 not all that true but it builds self estiem lol

  • Nice :)

  • Ah...the plane can be used again...successful landing!

  • I wouldn't worry too much about this. You got down in one piece and you can use the plane agan afterwards, it sounds like everything worked out well for you.

  • lOl

  • Keep up the practice and you'll get there!

  • not even CLOSE to the crappiest landing ever...

I guess you have never seen ME land :P

  • RIGHT RUDDER...RIGHT RUDDER..

  • i dont even get it, how did the nose wheel vear so far off? anyways, you handled it well, i would have panicked at hit the brakes haha

  • @bladeere14 Looked like a cross wind. He probably didnt take out the rudder correction prior to nosewheel touchdown or didn't add aileron correction (or both).

  • Lol... would suck if this was Flight Simulator but in real life... dude skidding of the RW like that... Trolololol

  • Centerline, directional control. At least it wasn't your last mistake.

  • we all make mistakes. you at least have the balls to show us yours

  • RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR

  • I that a Grumman Tiger or Cheetah by chance?

  • Is that a columbia 400?

  • chacho..chacho!!!!!!!! good plane!!!

  • The only time I went off the runway was when my instructor was pretty much flying the aircraft and I was letting him do it but then after we touched down we just went off the runway and he says "you aren't having a good day today are you?"|

I didn't say anything back but really wanted to lol

  • it's always the wind, not the pilot

  • Ahhhh, centerline, shmenterline !!! The airplane stayed in one piece.

  • @85iceman I like you.

  • Keep that upwind wing DOWN.

  • 9?? why not 09?

  • Its called "go around" for a reason..

  • 0:28

Thought for sure you'd take out that runway light. Yikes!

  • where is this?

  • haha every body blames there mistakes on crosswind

  • No sound, but I was still like OooooHHhhh GoD!

  • You're recording while landing, or the co-pilot is recording you.

In that case, I must say, Good Job :P

  • THAT IS SO BEAUTIFULL (exept the landing)

  • @11esky :) Indeed.

  • at 26 seconds, i would have been screaming, "OH SHIT!"

  • At least you recovered, better a close call than a crash.

  • Bad , but not the worst , I went up with an instructor , He landed half way down the runway and bounced it 3 times , if it was up to me I would have aborted and gone around lol , so dont feel bad .......

  • Yes, a good old fashioned runway excursion can happen to any of us.

  • I found myself pulling an imaginary yoke toward my chest and thinking to myself "flair flair flair".

  • At least now your less likely to do it again .. live and learn!

  • Remember, a poor approach makes a poor landing. Go around!

  • As my instructor used to say "Come my way ... Come my way a bit ... middle of the runway ... MY Plane!!!"

  • That was a crap landing

  • Crop dusting are we?

  • You were cleared to land on runway 9, not 8.

  • @V3ryan Maybe he thought he would sidestep to runway 9 left

  • @V3ryan

    9R not 9L :-)

  • Just be glad there where not lights on the side of the runway for your prop to hit ;-)

  • hehe nice...it's a lot easier to roll off the runway when the one you're trying to land on is about as wide as your wingspan

  • Don't feel too bad I ran off the runway once too!

  • only some information ............. from pilot to pilot

slip to the right side by ailoren and rudder

and and you will fix the centerline!

    And after touch down ???????????

right aileron up and rudder into the wind due wind from the right side and everything will work.

Train this procedures during max. crosswind ........ and you will LOVE IT!

    Many happy landings

    from Germany

  • Right rudder... :)

  • If this was your first flight for several years, perhaps your first passenger should have been an instructor? ;)

I'm not sure where you're located, but in by JAR-FCL rules you're required to fly at least 3 landings in the last 90 days before taking on a passenger.

  • @Excalibur80 Not to mention the biennial flight review.

  • Hey man it happens. I nearly got blown off the runway yesterday. At least you didn't break anything.

  • lucky guy...

  • There's this thing called the rudder...

  • i have a happy comment just like all the others AT LEAST UR NOT DEAD :)

  • any landing u can walk away from is a good landing ;)

  • I've seen worse! :-)

  • NO crosswind correction!!!!

  • Where is the other 20meters in wide of RWY???

  • 8-O

  • you walked away??? good landing!!!

  • Haha, that was crap!

  • @Ramster211 true dat but every pilot has his bad landings...

  • Landing's fine lol. No biggie. It's not like you have airline SOPs that state "Aircraft must stay on runway" :D Next landing will be better for sure :D

  • Cross wind landing? That's why it's important to keep the airplane on the centerline when landing. You should have gone to full power and done a go around. How many runway lights did you damage?

  • Any landing is a good landing

  • @aarperry nope, any landing you can walk away from, is a good landing :P

  • i did the same thing first time breaking lol gets the heart pumping

  • Its just a couple of runway lights....just blame someone else..

  • "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. And if you can reuse the plane afterwards, it's an excellent landing."

    Excellent landing, man.

  • Taking off is optional...Landings are mandatory...

  • What did the Tower or Airport Manager say?

  • Use Rudder and Aileron Coordination for a crosswind like that!!! Ur Gonna damage the damn landing gear!!!!!

  • AHHH...I was pressing a hole in the floor with my right foot the whole time I watched that! Glad you didn't break the plane. I'll bet you didn't do that on the next one! I'll also bet your CFI stopped filming and started paying attention to your flying (I hope that was your CFI in the right seat since you hadn't flown in "several years.")

  • yeah you didn't roll in a crosswind correction after you set down

  • i cant wait for my first landing im sure ill bounce it

  • hahahah my instructor wouldnt have been sayin centerline! or shit himself, he would have jumped off XD

  • Now if you could just fit some lawnmower blades to the landing gear you could have the lawn looking GREAT!

  • I dropped one in hard last week on a grass strip. It happens. LOL

You walked away from the landing so it's a good one!

  • Nice. Thanks for posting.

  • I've made worse landings lol

  • @skatergmail really?!

  • holy shit thank god the runway WASN'T lighted. or you'd hear Thunk thunk thunk as the lights are chopping away at the fuselage

  • my cfi woulda shit himself if i did that. lol. . cw fix= wing into the wind... opposite rudder... but hey, any landing you walk away from ey?

  • A pilot once said that a great landing is one where you can fly the plane afterwards...this was a great landing

{but you are getting the grass bill)

  • nothing wrong with this one just keep practice practice practice

  • lol

  • wind = shitting of pants= lmfao

  • haha nice bro...crosswinds are a bitch if you're outta practice

my cfi woulda been screaming "centerline!! centerline!!!!" haha

it's all good...at least you had the balls to put it on yt...

  • Love it!!!!!!

  • oh shit lol

  • any landing you walk away from is a good landing

  • how strong was the crosswind?

  • wow! that takes skill! how the hell did you manage to land a piper warrior badly?!?!?

  • as long as you didnt take any runway lights out then that was fine....

  • CENTERLINE! ;)

  • @themisterevans lol my thoughts exactly!

  • Any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

  • whats so crappy I land like that in flight sim all the time LOL!

  • did you hit any runway lights? I thought that I heard some pings after touch down, you did ok, a little right wind down and right rudder woulda been nice, s slip into the wind. ah, maybe next time?

  • Well, u landed on the runway, and u stopped (almost) on it also. Try to stay there lol. Better than me!

  • holding the cam and flying dont mix

  • no but having somebody hold it in the right seat while you fly in the left seat... do.

  • @spikesonthebrain Exactly.

  • not so bad, considering the runway seems to be very narrow. the passengers and the plane are still alive. no worry

  • Any landing you walk away from is a succesful landing.

We all feel bad when we land a plane for the first time after a long break because its the first time you realise how your skill has perished in that time.

  • He didn't bounce, and he landed just beyond the threshold. Yes, he went off the runway, but that's not all that uncommon. This was definitely not the worst landing of all times.

  • I certainly wouldn't say that going off the side of the runway is common. However, it does indicate a need for some more instruction. Nothing that probably couldn't be fixed in a single instructional flight.

  • I don't know if it's worse that you think it's not uncommon to depart the runway during landing roll or that at least two people found your comment favorable.

  • when i land i plant the plane firm i dont care about greasing it in bad winds i get it down the lightweights enjoy floating to the edge of the runway in wind

  • I wouldn't say it's the crappiest landing ever....at least everyone on the plane still had a pulse by the time it stopped

  • not bad, not bad!

  • That wasn't bad at all, not centered when landing. I had a landing this past week that I landed on only one of my mains, bounced, landed on only one again, bounced again, tried to correct, and failed horrible yet again. My instructor had to tell me to let go of the controls it was so bad. Moral of the story, go-arounds are you friend if you don't like any part of the approach! :)

  • Knocking the rust off....no biggie

  • hahahahahahahaha!!!! you scared your passengers!!!!!! ahahahahaha! made my day!

  • Remember when your landing, right when it's time to flare, just hold the nose up as long as you can until the stall warning comes on, if it does. This is what i was taught, and it make's a great landing for me every time.

And remember (NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FORCE A PLANE TO LAND) BIG BIG BIG mistake doing that.

  • @biggestMetallicAfan in calm winds that is true. In a nice stiff crosswind, or turbulence, you will crash and burn doing that. Get that wing low, and just barely flare and let it fly itself onto the deck. Not using flaps helps in the crosswind also.

  • remeber the lower the flare the smoothest the landing fellow pilots,by the way type ETHIOPIAN COCKPIT VIEW and.enjoy my vidio!

  • Good landings you can walk away from, great ones the plane is still usable ;)

  • Close call!!!

  • at lest you are alive

  • thats soo funny, you went into the grass.... ahh the days when I was a CFI, exiciting stuff

  • Lol, Nearly Had It! I Hope you can look back on this and have a bit of a giggle. These things happen, and all we can do is learn from them!

  • Looks like an arrow. This is why it should be illegal to learn to fly in a tricycle gear airplane. You dont have to do anything to keep them straight, so when the time comes such as this, you dont know how to keep the nose going the same direction as the airplane. not to mention most "instructors" these days are terrified of crosswinds, stalls, spins, and bank of more than 30 degrees.

  • wtf are you on about? Just get on the rudder firmly, yet still controlled, and you're ok. Tail draggers smell :P

  • *g* ... its all about remaining in one piece on the runway

  • Any landing you can walk away from....

  • I stumbled across this video and am glad you made it safely! Best of luck as you fly.

  • at least it wasn't an aircraft carrier :)

  • @mytube1968 Way to look on the bright side =)

  • @mytube1968 hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • @mytube1968 damn right :P

  • On one of my first solo flights something similar happened to me while taking off: A crosswind gust made the taildragger motor glider breaking out of course but I pulled it off the ground fast enough to avoid going into the grass. Luckily it was only less loaded.

  • Hahaha. At least you guys made it onto the ground safely and had a laugh about it afterwards. Hope the next one was better!

  • lol i bet you must have nearly shit your self I know i would lol My brother is was 18 and he could do better landings than that (that said he has had loads of flight simulator years) Still a good landing (its the direction you got to worry about lol)

  • "Semi-possible"? LOL!

  • im making a wild guess.....cessna grand caravan?

  • i would say a piper

  • you gotta remember that if you are not comfortable with your approach just Go around!!

  • If you walk away from it, its a good landing. If you can fly the plane again its a great landing.

  • if you go off the side of the runway its not a great landing

  • rudder rudder rudder rudder. Just add rudder to that flare to stay on the centerline

  • The rudder is only taking care of one axis. The rudder will correctly orient the fuselage with the ground-track but rudder input itself at flare isn't going to do diddley with maintaining runway centerline. The ground track is the ground track. To set yourself up for success, correct runway centerline begins wayyyy back and long before touchdown. AFTER touchdown, rudder or toe brakes would have helped maintain the centerline but not while the A/C is still flying... not even in ground effect.

  • The green green gass of hope

  • Hey man no worries... I have had my share of hard landings. See where your nose is pointed though? Thats usually because there is not enough rudder correction in the opposite direction. My instructor always said to keep my feet moving down there. You should pretty much be dancing by the time you are in the flare:-)

  • I fly a Piper Warrior and I always come in too fast on my landings. I use full flaps, idle power and sometimes do a slip..what else can I do to slow down another 10kts to 63???

  • its probabaly because you are too high on your finals, you should give your self ample ammount of space and time before you reach finals, if you maintain the right profile you will find it much easier to maintain speed and hight, infact over time you will realise you don`t even need to use flaps...

  • Pull throttle to idle a litte earlier or come in a bit lower from the beginning. If you still need to slow down more you have to pitch up a little bit. But the main thing is a good glideslope, then you'll almost automatically have the correct speed.

  • pull the power back.

  • It doesn't look scary at all in the vid. I know what you mean though. I fly Piper warrior/Cherokee's and I have been pushed to the side (not off the runway)on landings also. It seems like there was a right crosswind. Also it was a very narrow runway. What matters is how you recovered the flight.

  • I agree -- don't feel too embarrassed. On my second (in a PA28), I came in too fast, bounced the landing, suddenly was facing the sky, lowered the nose, landed hard, half-off the right side of the runway, with ATC saying "...do you require assistance?!" and my instructor running over and looking very concerned. I went from feeling like Roger Ramjet, to thinking I was going to die, to feeling acute embarrassment, all in the space of about 3 seconds. :)

  • lol!

  • @kitmm Hahahaha oh my, youre making me nervous for my first landing thats coming up soon in my DA-20...hahah gosh hope it all goes well eh.

  • I've found it also helps to dump the flaps right after touchdown.

  • while that may help directional control a bit i find it distracts new pilots too much - keep em' concentrated on ldg

  • No sweat! You walked away... making a good landing, and Airplane is still reusable.... that makes it a great landing!

  • Hey IT happens to everyone lol.

  • I had the same experience after my solo, missed the runway lights by the hair of my head,Thanks for the dirt track experience ,came in handy!!Next Time hit the POWER and go around..

  • he was a little slow for that by the time he veered off - just needs better set up from the beginning and hold full right rudder if need be

  • It's okay buddy don't worry.

Just remember to keep the ailerons were they were right at the touch down and keep deflecting them more an more as you slow down. This happened because you stopped flying the plane after touch down. Good Luck
