Just so you don't try and shoot me down on another point- the difference between backpressure and positive and negative pulses. Backpressure is caused by flow though the pipe and is a function of pipe diameter, relative roughness length and most importantly, velocity. It's related to the turbulent flow and boundary layer conditions inside the tube. It's a problem with air conditioning, pneumatic conveying and any other fluid (gas or liquid...) flow situation. More pressure = power loss.

If heard in person, the raw sound that emits from a Capristo equipped car is unbelievable. How about you hear it in person, and then trash talk it?
No- No exhaust system will never amplify the sound. That's the whole idea- to make it quieter so it's legal. Straight piping from the headers will always give more power than any sort of muffled exhaust, due to the lower pressure drop across areas of high roughness, eg a muffler...

It makes sense that in saying "no muffled exhaust will be more powerful than a straight piece of pipe" but it's incorrect. You can actually decrease backpressure (which is VERY necessary in high performance engines to avoid pinging, as it helps the intake stroke. You are however, right in saying you cannot amplify the noise... it's not a speaker LP640Murcielago lol.
Trust me- "back pressure" is not something you want. The scavenging effect due to pipe lengths and primary pipe sizes is the desirable effect (resonance). This can be tuned for low or high rpm but not both. Small primaries work for low rpm but add undesirable back pressure. People wrongly attribute resonance scavenging effects to back pressure. I am an engineer and 2IC for engine development for UOW Racing so I do know what I'm talking about.
Obviously EXCESS backpressure is not something one wants. But you DO need some. Imagine an engine with literally no piping between the exit of the cylinder and the real world. It's barely going to let fuel in.
How would it not let fuel in? That's what the valves and camshafts are there for...so the exhaust goes out on the up stroke and the new air and fuel in on the down stroke. Zero backpressure is ALWAYS ideal. For all practical purposes, a short piece of pipe coming from the exhaust exhibits no backpressure. This is exactly the system used on most piston aircraft engines WWI to present day.
Backpressure is a resistance to flow, so resistance to piston movement and so power loss. Simple physics.
Also consider how an exhaust manifold is designed- the aim is to perfectly time the NEGATIVE PRESSURE (ie sub ambient) return pulse to reach the exahust valve at the moment it opens, thus the ideal is to not only eliminate backpressure but actually SUCK THE EXHAUST OUT! Very much disproving the "you need a little back pressure". As I said before, this can only be tuned at particular rpm, so some rpm will experience an undesirable positive pulse. Different phenomenon but same effect- power loss.
Pressure pulses on the other hand can occur in an essentially static column/tube/duct/etc of air. In an engine, it's caused by compression or vacuum created by moving air streams as it is forced to come to a stop by the valve closing. The pulses are a wave, not a movement of matter, though they can occur in a moving medium. They are a transfer of energy. In an engine, resonance is a function of primary pipe length and the speed of sound in the exahust gas. Same applies to intake tuning.

well if you are the history buff you try to make yourself soundlike youd kjnow we tried many other solutions first b4 using nuclear warfare i assume your talking about hiroshima and nagasaki that was our last resort and are you try ing to justify the thousands of lives that were lost at pearl harbor which was what brought us into the war tobegin with and we wouldnt have used the bombs if they didnt do what they did first!!
