When I was little, my Mother read us Poe as our bed time stories. She loved Poe desperately. She also loved Lovecraft. I never thought it was strange or weird, and it gave us a love of true beauty. I am sure others thought us strange.
One of the authors I followed at an early age was Robert E. Howard but I too read Poe sometime around my early teens and actually had the pleasure of taking an entire class on Poe in High School. One of my favorite Poe collections is Edgar Allan Poe : Essays and Reviews in the Library of America series dealing not with his stories/poems but all the other areas of his writings. I just this evening read "The Man Who Collected Poe" by Bloch. Wow! That story goes into my favorites list for sure.
