My Leaf will be black. Goodbye filthy oil. Hello zero emission. Forty percent of the grid is generated by hydroelectric dams and wind farms in Oregon. The $3 per day (3 cents per mile) operational cost, $7500 federal and $1500 state tax credit makes the Leaf an ideal daily commute vehicle. Thank you, Nissan!
@SalvadorDalinian That's great man. It's good that you are opting for the zero emission future, one by one we can all make a difference, I really envy you (in a good way) for getting your Leaf. I live in Texas and the Leaf will not come over here until next year, but im still a loyal Nissan customer (own a Nissan Altima) though I wish my Altima was Zero Emission too lol and BTW great color choice, out of all the colors ive seen, black is the best, it makes the Leaf look a lil sporty

Kudos to Nissan, I'm loving the LEAF. Lithium is a promising technology. IBM is currently developing a battery pack based on lithium Air, the next generation of lithium batteries that promises 10 times the energy density. Something that could give the LEAF an upgrade up to of 1,000 mile range.

I'd like to see any EV, regardless of battery technology, come into the mainstream. We should be supporting any manufacturer's efforts rather than criticizing the details.
There's a guy on Youtube that has posted numerous videos claiming that lithium-ion technology is a failure. I forgot the name of what technology he liked. I think it was called Nickel-Metal-Hydride
1994 GM acquires Ovonics and patents. Oct2001 Chevron(thru Texaco) buys Ovonics from GM (chevron changes its name, now its called Cobasys). Once Chevron got its hands on the patents it launched litigation warfare on Matsushita and Toyota who had designed the superior NiMH on the Rav4EV, and they settled in 2004(seriouly limiting how Toyota could use NiMH). ***Chevron is sitting and mothballing many NiMH related pattents ever since most of which expire in dec 2014*** (why hoard if its bad???)
Chevron wants to *delay* the mass production of *affordable* EVs as much as possible. NiMH, although heavier, is proven to last, cheaper, and most of all could have been on the market for years, so hoarding NiMH while diverting the focus on Li has achived this delay of afforadable EVs.
What we need is EVs designed so that batteries can be replaced by compatible 3rd party(Matsushita, Toshiba, Sionpower, etc) batteries with compatible format but different technology-budget-performance.
Imo potential EV buyers need to start thinking and talking about wanting to be able to compare and choose the battery manufacturer, especially when it comes to replacement batteries down the road(which could be available from many manufacturers, cheaper and with better performance/flexibility than the car maker's own proprietary batteries;
The car maker might have a 12K$ battery with 120% range lasting 5years and other comp might have a 2K$ with 95% range but lasting 12years, you should decide)
It's bad for businesses. there is an established hierarchy of money flow through the energy sectors. Start-up companies have little to no room to gain a foothold, because large companies hold all the real estate. Sitting on the patents ensures no one can use the technology to emproach on their long held territory or open new sectors for development.
Lithium is a dead end. Yes it's powerful, but not plentiful. NiMH is sustainable, powerful,recyclable, and coming en-mass after waiting 20 years.
Youtube didn't do a good Job of directing my reply under the post I intended it to be under.

I was responding to the (Why Hoard if it's bad) portion. You elaborated yourself in other posts Why it's bad. Just blame You-tube for putting posts out of order and causing myself a little confusion.

I'll be sitting right there, when the first truck of Leaf will come to Italy. And one of those cars will be mine, Definitively. Period.

How will the batteries be disposed when the car is no longer in use? hopefully they have developed some sort of recycling program for the batteries.

Why did Nissan not use in-wheel motor tech? I thought the future(now) was going this way.
